Cathlete
Hi ladies.

Briee, your bike ride sounds wonderful.

I hate being sick I hate being sick...did I mention I hate being sick?

I can't even remember the last time I was sick, I'll shut up.

I did an easy step/weight circuit w/o for about 45 mins yesterday and probably shouldn't have. I forgot strep not only affects the throat but pulls the whole body down with it. Needless to say, I grabbed onto my bar, look at it, and said "I just don't even feel like it."

Kathryn I'm still impressed with how quickly you worked up to the chinup. Have you scheduled that class reunion yet?

Everyone, keep working out, keep smiling and have a happy day.:)

OOOOOH! Melody girl,

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. Please take it easy, it is not the time to exercise, just rest please. Your body needs it desprately.

My DH and I will be going to the ocean today and for tomorrow night as well. I'll do my chin ups and pull ups before we leave. When we get to the park, then I'll do my cardio, and the rest of the upper body strength training.

You all sound great from reading the other posts. Keep up the good work. And it doesn't surprise me Kathryn how well you are doing. Good for you.

Melody...I'm so sorry your sick. Take loads and I mean LOADS of Garlic and vitamin C. Like, take it every hour. REALLY great to fight off infection. I have never had much luck with garlic pills, but when I peel a clove of garlic, chew it a little and swallow it with liquid - outstanding!!

I did chins yesterday so I was not going to do them today, but I was at the swingset with the kids and that bar overwhelmed me and I did a set of 5. Hard to hold onto a fat bar! Those hanging bars - just have that compelling "draw". I have such a hard time walking through clothes departments...all those bars.

Hope all others are doing well today!! It's BEAUTIFUL here in Wisconsin. Makes me happy.:7 :7

Briee

Melody, working out with strep throat probably not a good idea (I am sure you figured that out already). Rest and feel better soon.

Janie, enjoy your trip to the ocean!!!

I did KPC today (minus abs-Briee I thought of you when I skipped this part). Will maybe do chinups tomorrow. My biceps and triceps are still sore from S&H yesterday x( x( So I guess we'll see.

Catherine

Hi Janey, Briee and Catherine

Thanks for the advice, I'm not working out.

I did have to stop bold and scold Catherine for skipping that ab workout...tsk tsk.

Enjoy the beautiful weather there, Briee. It's not so pretty in GA.

Janie, have a fun trip. I love the beach.

Wishing everyone who checks in a peaceful evening.:)

Hey Soosan....I just got my latest issue of Muscle and Fitness and there is this woman that is 5'8 and 135 pounds doing pullups, wide front. I think you might be a little taller, but just wanted to encourage you regarding body types. She was tall and slender, but yes lots of muscle. PROBABLY FROM DOING NEGATIVES (or assisted chin machine!!) or maybe from eating donuts?:p :p :p

You CAN do it!!! Just give yourself time!

Briee

Yeah, Soosan, you CAN do it! Body type has NUTTIN' to do with it!
It's all about technique and practice.

Yeah, this morning it was 3AM! I wanted to get up at 3:30, but woke up early. That means an early sack time tonight.

Forgot to add- still have sore biceps and triceps from Wednesday's w/o. So will skip chinups today. I will be trying S&H legs. My knee seems to be doing well and I will go light (with S&H I still feel it with light wts!!). Will plan on P90X chest and back on Saturday.

Have a great day and a good weekend!!

Catherine

Yesterday was P90X Shoulders and Arms for me, but I didn't know whether I should do chin-ups or not, because I'd done them the day before, and when I've tried them two days in a row before, I didn't have much luck. I did try one, but only got to a nose-up (will I ever see over that bar again? LOL!)

I'm backsliding! Not really, I think my body just needs more recovery: for now, maybe one chin every other day is what it can come up with! (followed by partial reps or negative reps).

Today is yoga day on my rotation (I'm doing a modified P90X rotation), so no chins until tomorrow, which will be leg day. By then, I should have recovered some ooomph (maybe I should stick myself with some pins to recreate the original conditions of my first full chin, which I did after coming back from my acupuncture appointment?;-) ) I want to make sure this wasn't just a fluke!

Hi all! Things are getting busy at work, so I couldn't work out yesterday or today, and DH and I are taking 11 kids to the zoo tomorrow for my daughter's 6th birthday, so no workout then either. I did play tennis this morning and actually felt like I got in a decent workout. Tonight my daughter has a dance recital and then we're having the in-laws over for dinner afterward to celebrate her birthday so I've got to cook dinner and clean a bit this afternoon. Good thing I made the cake yesterday (strawberries and cream - yum). But why do people keep making a mess of my house???

I tried a couple chins from a dead hang yesterday just to see how pathetic they still were. (They are.) But don't worry, Briee and HB, you don't know me if you think I'm giving up! I have to respectfully diagree about body type, though, HB. I'm not saying it's unattainable for my body type, just harder. I see it again and again when all the kids around here come over and try to do them. Some can and some can't and I can almost always predict who'll be able to (which I do silently, of course). But thanks for your encouragement, guys! (Briee, would you please tell the M&F girl I'm not speaking to her?)

Briee, I need to develop the attraction for bars that you have. Do you think if I put magnets on my bar and chin I'd be able to do one?

Melody, I hope you feel better. It sucks being sick.

Janie, hope you're having fun at the beach and the weather's good!

Catherine, I hope you're doing abs today!

Kathryn, you'll probably be inconsistent with these for a little while. In the meantime, I guess I'll be speaking to you intermittantly.:p

Soooooooooooosan, 11 kids to the zoo:eek:  I think that excuses you from your missed workouts. Enjoy your daughters recital and dinner.

Kathryn, I posted or I thought I did about your "fluke" It disappeared (my post) Anyway I thought when I did my first it was a fluke too. I tried the next day and couldn't do one. I can not remember if it was two or three days after the first that I repeated it with such elation!! Anyway you are so right about appropriate recovery. It is so important to make gains. Now I expect a full report after tomorrows workout LOL!!

Oh and yessssssss Soooooooooooosan I did my abs today- I'd rather do chinups. But I will leave that for tomorrow. When will #4 happen?????? I think I've been training too inconsistently to make gains. Not sure, but it seemed as though when I was doing a P90X rotation I was making better gains. Maybe just in my head. Yeah, that's it. It's in my head.

Briee, how is your back doing?

Melody, hope you are better.

Janie, I hope it's good weather for ya at the beach. Oh and I hope there are chinup bars }( }(

Catherine

WhaaaaaaaaaaaaaWhaaaaa!!! :( :( :( OK I did P90X chest and back this morning and I couldn't even do 3 chinups( did 2.5) on my first set. As a matter of fact I could only do sets of 1 after thatx( x( I last did chins Monday and did 5 sets of 2 and felt weak- best way I can describe it. Not tired, just too weak to pump out hardly 2. So after 4 days of rest I thought it would be better. I am analyzing what I am doing differently. Lots of things. More cardio, no yoga, maybe need to eat more (with the more cardio) and I haven't been doing as many negatives (I am sure this has an affect- need to do these at least until I get more #s in my sets). Oh and I did do S&H biceps and triceps on Wed. I will continue to push on. My DH came out and gave me a hug while I was working out cause he knew I was upset. Of course I am sure it had nothing to do with all the $$@@#%^& that he heard going on while I was working out. Any advice on how to tweak my workouts would be much appreciated from you seasoned chinuppers!! I did take about a week and a half off about three week ago, but last week Friday I had my best ever sets

Well, the good news is that I haven't lost my pushup ability. I did 160 various types of pushups on my toes }( }(

How's everyone else doing. Can not wait to hear Kathryn's report!!

Well, gotta go get ready, we're headed to the horse races again today. Maybe I'll win some money and then I'll feel better- or drown my sorrows in a mimosa or two!!

Have a good day :+

Catherine

> Do you think if I put magnets on my bar and chin I'd be
>able to do one?

Hey! A new idea for assisted chins!: attach magnet to bar, wear metal helmet, and let magnet help pull you up.

That's just the first step, though, you'd have to change where the metal is: next step is wearing a metallic bra (underwire, anybody?) and allowing the magnet to put up a little higher.

Kathryn...you are getting very creative. I like people who think outside the box!!!! I am quite afraid though, if you begin moving the magnets down you may get to the point where you have them at your feet and you will invert on the way up and we'll find you hangin by your toes. Oh wouldn't that be cute!!

Catherine...my back is MUCH better - thanks for asking. I put two chin days in a row on Wednesday and Thursday. From a seasoned chiner.....just when I think I've figured out what makes me strong...I realize how little I know. I can't figure it out. I did chins on Wednesday and was still sore, but did them again on Thursday just because I felt like it. I did LOTS of negatives after my first set of 9. I think consistency is a BIG factor (ie doing them every other day rain or shine (but not through bad pain), even when you feel weak and can't do many...just do negatives instead of normal ones). Again, this is a suggestion and I don't always "do as I say". I too had great gains when I stuck to the P90X rotation. But you can't do it forever, change is good!

Soosan...it IS easier for some body types to do pullups/chinups, just don't let this thinking get in the way with getting to your goal. I know you're determined and you will get there!! And think of the muscle you are building while you are GETTING to your goal. I'm one of those types that LOVES proving that it CAN be done. I had a talk many years ago with 7-8 ladies that said, "once you have babies your body is never the same" OOOoooooo that one got me going. They claimed you can never be as slim as you were as your hips expand, etc. To me it was a copout, but telling them this in a loving way was tough. I tend to be WAY too outspoken, but am gaining a little balance in my old age - I still have MUCH to learn - in many areas of life!!

One thing I'm certain of in life....you are doing WAY too much Yoga }( }( :p :p (heavy sarcasm there - and much giggling).

Briee

One more thing I'm certain of....if I don't get a donut in me sooooon...I may pass out. Major craving...AND when I called the little grocery store nearby, they said they were out. AND they had the audacity to tell me they have lots of other things that would take the donuts place}( }( }( }( . I ask you this.....what could possibly take the place of a glazed donut????

Briee

Catherine, I'm sure you're frustrated that you couldn't do the usual amount, but I'm also sure it's temporary. Keep your chin up (pun intended)!:)

Briee, glad to hear your back is better and that you're still going strong with the chins! Yesterday was my third day of not workiing out. This past week was supposed to be Gym Styles, but I was just too busy to get to them. I think I'll put this rotation on hold until the Y Ball is over (June 3) and just do total body and possibly circuit workouts to be more time efficient. (And can't forget the chin-ups!) Then you and I can start up again. (Except then summer will be here and vacations will interfere...hmmmm... may have to rethink some more...)

And, Briee, I'm opionionated too. I'm sure people respect your directness and know they're going to get a straight answer when they ask you something. I hate it when people are too polite to tell me what's on their mind.

I have to tell you all what happened Friday at my daughter's dance recital. It was her sixth birthday and at the end when everyone was on stage taking their bows, the instructor surprised us by saying to the audience, "Six years ago Susan Johnson (that's me) had to miss a recital (my son's gymnastics') because she was in the hospital having a baby. Well, that baby is now on stage - so will you please join me in singing 'Happy Birthday' to Aline Johnson?" Then the whole audience sang to her and at the end, I brought her up some flowers and a birthday balloon. I know she felt like a princess! How often in your life will a whole audience sing to you while you're on stage?

Hope everyone has a great Sunday! It's another beautiful day here in Virginia. This spring has been unbelievably gorgeous.

Oh, poop on a stick!

I did chins yesterday, before my sheduled lower body workout, and I wasn't able to get a full one in like before. (pout pout)

First try was a "nose-up" (level with nose with no tilt) plus a 1/2 rep
Second try was a negative rep (to work on that top part that's keeping me from getting all the way up)
Third try was another nose-up
Fourth try a negative
Fifth try an 'eyeball-up'
Sixth try a "forehead-up"
