Chinup Check-In 7/23

Cathlete
Hey ladies, after being a slacker with all of yesterdays events, I am back on track today. I did Legs & Back. My chinups were: 2 sets of 4, 5 sets of 3 and 1 set of 2 (hand slipped). This evening I did 10 single rep pullups as well. I really felt the pullups in my back. Now I move on to recovery week. Yippee!!

How's everyone else's weekend been? Hopefully better than mine LOL!!

Catherine

Hi Catherine! I'm so sorry to hear about your lousy week. I'm sure you and DH felt horrible after the vandalism. You're a trooper for sticking with your rotation so well. WTG on the chins; you're really amazing! (Although I didn't see any yoga reports...:p)

I did PY4H (90 min) yesterday and, although today was supposed to be a rest day, I was in the mood for some cardio, so did CTX S&I plus KPC abs. I've got MM (and chins) on the plate for tomorrow. I love doing total body weight workouts in the summer because they give you a lot of flexibility in terms of what you can do the rest of the week.

Looking forward to hearing from the rest of you!:)

Hey Soooooooooooooosan!! I did 30 mins of yoga yesterday. I think I'll stick to the shorter versions for now till I get better!! I did enjoy it and it was over quickly. I think P90X rotation is hard and working out 6 days a week is tough. That's no excuse, but I make it one not to do the yoga LOL!!

I am just waving to Sooosan and Catherine and any others peeking in.

Today was GS CT and elliptical w/o for me. Back is up again on Tuesday. I'm a bit frustrated as my neck is bothering me again. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the chin/pull-up negatives seem to be the aggravator, but the lat pulldowns wide or narrow grips don't bother the ole neck. I must be tensing up the neck or maybe it's just the additional weight of my body versus what I pull down on lat machine.

Oh well, I don't know where I stand at this point. I will being doing yoga tonight.:)

Catherine...I'm so sorry to hear about your trouble this week. You're pulling through amazingly...pullups and all. I'm very proud of you!!

Soosan, I've been so busy I rarely read other threads anymore, but happened to check open forum today and read about sparrows new workout, posted you a note under it :p :p

Melody...my back has been acting up A LOT lately and I blame it on being sick and no workouts. I'm still coughing quite a bit, but I'm dying for a good workout. Maybe tomorrow. My sympathies go out to you - sending cyber hugs!! (I'm just sure that Soosan's going to chime in and tell me I'm in need of a good Yoga session to straighten out my back and problem is...she's usually right - I hate that).

Briee (no chins, pulls or donuts lately, but SOON)

Melody, I think it's real easy to injure yourself with these if we're not careful. To me, they're like trying to lift a weight that's much too heavy. What good is that? Briee and I discussed this one time. The negatives were supposed to be a way to build up to these, but I have not been consistent enough with them because I loathe them.

Briee, sounds like the Striptease video would be just the ticket for you unless it requires you to wear a bikini:p }( (which, BTW, I've been happily sporting all summer).

I haven't decided whether to do MM or take the rest day I skipped yesterday. I had to work this morning and need to do some things around the house this afternoon, so we'll see.

What's everyone else up to?

I am due to do Core Synergistics tonight. I love this workout. But I didn't sleep last night. Was up nauseated- ate some bad scallops, I guess. Miserable feeling like your gonna lose it at any moment, but don't. I'd rather throw up and get it over with!! Now stomach is better, but not quite right. I'll see how I feel when I get home.

Catherine,

You are terrific, you let life go on even when it is not the best of times. You are an inspiration lady, and I thank you for being you.

You all seem to be doing great.

Catherine, Soooosan, Meolody, and Briee, you are awesome. How in the world do you sustain/endure your w/o's so well? I better get on the ball. I only have cardio for about 40-45 minutes, and thats with 5 min. warm up and a 5 min. cool down.

I'm off to do my modified chin ups...upper body, and cardio.

Awesome, just awesome,(under my breath and turning my head from side to side)

Janie,
You are soooo sweet. Ya know I learned a long time ago that I make the choices in my life and decide how I react and handle things. So now I make an effort to react as positively as I can. That doesn't work all the time, but it sure helps keep me on track.

For your pullups keep telling yourself "light as a feather" I think it was Tom Venuto that taught me that. And visualize yourself in your head doing chinups!! It really does help. Often we just have to get passed that mental block and let our bodies do what we KNOW they can do!!

Janie...you are just too sweet. Always encouraging. The answer to how we find time is that sometimes we don't - x( x( (okay - I'm only speaking for myself lately). The rest of everyone else on this site finds time!!:7 :7 :7 . But...that's why I keep checkin in here - they are all so motivating, uplifting. They even let you make fun of yoga(I personally have never done this, but I know of others who do:p :p ).

I also hope (and DO take this one seriously)that you NEVER take much of what I say seriously. I'm feeling very introspective today and was rereading previous posts and realizing that I can "sound like" a major jerk and TOO sarcastic most of the time. AND when one posts, you-the reader- cannot see the postee's disposition at the time of posting which is why they created that cool little thing called "smiley's" - that I have no idea how to use. Except for the very BASIC smiley's printed right on the screen for computer illiterate posters such as myself. I feel very stifled by this limitation and am ready to burst with smiley-guy creativity, but am trapped inside my box of limited smiley's :) x( :-( ;) :( }( ;( :D :p :9 :* :+ while Melody continues to paint beautiful pictures of her emotions onscreen, unrestricted. You go Melody!!!!

So NOW you know what I'm doing today....babbling. Oh yes...I did do the TS #1. I decided that since I've been sick and workoutless I'll do one week of timesavers and then hop into the P90X again, maybe.

Briee

After I posted the previous post, I realized Catherine had slipped in and our first lines were almost the same. So it's almost unanimous Janie...you are SWEET.

Catherine I love your outlook. Always react positively and you will never regret it. Glad you're part of the chinners (even though you sometimes do yoga :p ).

Sooooooooooooosan, I bet if you tried doing chins wearing your bikini you'd feel weightless. (I have to admit - negatives, after my latest break, sound loathsome too - yoga's sounding better and better all the time - BUT I DIDN'T SAY THAT OKAY?)

Briee

Briee,

I want to be more like you. You and my sister are so naturlly comical. Believe me, you come across with wonderful flying colors, and I for one am a fan of yours. I love reading what you write, and laugh all the time. It makes for a great day. I miss when you are not on the forum.

Keep bursting with smiley-guys, and I'll keep laughing,

Janie

Just popping in to agree Janie is sweet, Catherine has a great attitude (except about abs), Briee is a loonie tune, and *whistle* Susan is a bikini babe.:)

I'm doing too much housework, still have to workout, and I just would rather be on the beach already.x(

I'll be doing GS legs later. Gotta go perform surgery to remove a splinter from DS's finger.}(

Gosh, Janie, you ARE sweet! And your workouts aren't too shabby yourself, so I don't know what you're talking about.:)

Briee, if you stop being sarcastic and goofy, I'll never speak to you again. Oh, that's right, I'm already not speaking to you because of your chin-up superiority. Well, then I'll just have to think of something else. I can't believe you're working out today when you've been sick! I hope you're feeling better and that you'll be up to some yoga and donuts later this week.

Melody, I don't blame you for wanting to be at the beach. You're another workout machine, with all the HC workouts you do all the time.

Catherine, you've got a great attitude. Life is definitely about how you react to circumstances more than the circumstances themselves. You're a wise woman!

You've all motivated me to do some negs before I pick up my daughter. I'll post a report later.

>>Catherine has a great attitude (except about abs)

Guess I'll just have to work on that :p

It's been said before and I'll say it again. I love this group!! We all inspire each other in our own way.And we've never even met for goodness sakes. I still think we should have a get together- someday.

Hello again,

I've been reading our posts, and I must say, I'm too sweet, there is such a thing. I better sour up just a little bit.

My husband got this from his brother,
BONUS QUESTION ON CHEMISTRY EXAM

The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term.

The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well.

Bonus Question:

Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave.

Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell.

Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you, and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 above must be true, and thus I am sure Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting

"Oh my God."

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"

Hope I didn't sour too much though, and I didn't want to let everyone in on it because I might catch a lot of...you know what. Just goes to show you where some men's minds are. But then again, women can be that way also. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I'll keep it strickly for chin-ups the next time around.

Oh Janie:+

I'm LOL and will have to share this one with my DH.

OK, maybe you're not so sweet.:p ;-)

BTW, I too love the encouragement and positive outlook of each of you. Keep it coming.:)

Catherine, done any ab work today?

Briee, I went to DD the other night and did NOT eat a donut, only drank water.

Sooosan, keep the yoga woven into the thread.

Joanne, where are you? I forget.
