Chinner's Checkin 2-3-07

Cathlete
Hey guys, I'm sitting here trying to decide which lower body work out to do.:7 . I did B&G last tuesday, maybe I should do that again. I think I'd like more step ups and some heavier weights..hmmmm. Also hoping to do some chins today.

What's everyone else up to??? Joanne...how's your tri feeling? Did the chins make it worse again? Listen to your body girl!!

I think I'm going to make whole wheat donuts today...that's healthy right?

Briee

Hey Briee!! Sounds like you are back at it again. Lets see a leg workout with lots of step ups and heavier wts how bout doing PLB and just do the heaviest wt you can?

My schedule is off this week, but I did S&H triceps and biceps earlier. That was tough after doing S&H C&B yesterday. Chest work fatigues my triceps making today a challenge. Debating on doing some cardio later. I started S&H first of Jan and now trying to decide what to do next. Hmmmmmm???

Whole wheat donuts huh? Sounds healthy to me!!

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been AWOL this week - too much going on, but I did manage to keep my workouts going.

Interesting how you felt you needed more than B&G, Briee. I've been noticing an improvement in Drill Max, Boot Camp and other high endurance workouts since I've been doing it - more than at any other time. Plus my legs and butt seem to be more muscular - go figure. I'm still doing heavy UB at the Y and did some assisted chins, using more weight than what I used before I stopped (which is a bad thing - more weight = more assistance for those not familiar with this machine). Oh well, you've gotta start somewhere.

Catherine - how'd you do with S&H? Do those workouts give you good results?

Hey Soooooooooooosan!! Back to chinning YIPPEE!!! I wouldn't worry about using more assistance. Doing something is better than nothing.

As far as S&H results, hmmmm..... I really don't know. I look the same, but I guess I feel stronger. My legs feel firmer- but there's so much FAT on top (lower body is my worst asset) I am thinking of doing Cathe's November rotation with the new workouts. But I have yet to figure out how to add chinups and pullups in there. I typically like to do them with legs. I guess I could do them on cardio days- try to do cardio in am and chins/pulls in pm. I really think I do better with a rotation. Thought about P90x, but really want to spend more time with the new workouts first.

I ended up doing legs and glutes before seeing your message Catherine..I think I'll take your suggestion next leg day and do PLB. I haven't done that in months, maybe years.

I don't know Soosan. I didn't think that much of B&G when I first did it (I should know I'm always that way with 1st w/o's), but I'm liking it now. And...while I want to develop muscles in my upper body (ie heavy weights), I really want to get "smaller" in my lower body. I keep reading about freestyle legs, B&G seems to go along with this pattern of working out. I'm giving it a try and working it in more and more. ALSO...We missed you!!

Catherine...I think we should come up with our own rotation of P90X weight work and Cathe's new workouts. I want to get back into a P90X rotation (and stick with it!!!), but I love Cathe's new workouts. Think think think.

Briee

Catherine, I haven't exactly been following a rotation either. It's hard to when life gets hectic. My #1 priority is lifting, so I always make sure I do two bodyparts per week. Three cardios is plenty for my goals and two is fine for time-crunched weeks so I feel fine there too. It's the yoga I've been slack with and my body really craves it. It just has to come last in my quest for fitness so I can't always get to it. When I'm not too busy, I can fit it all in, and during the summer, I usually prioritize yoga - somehow that's what my body wants.

Briee, thanks for saying you missed me - I missed you and everyone else too! Is everyone in your house healthy?

Well Briee I followed your lead and did LL today. Hadn't done that one in a while. Eoooooowwww!!!   I am working on my lower body endurance LOL!! OK instead of saying my endurance sucks I am trying to present it positively and say I am working on it LOL!!! :D Now I need to do chins later.

What, did I hear Ms Sooooooooooooosan say she is slacking on her yoga? Nooooooooo, it can't be. I have done yoga once a week for the last month. Which is good for me. I can tell a difference. The increased flexability helps me with my other workouts.

Happy Sunday All!

It's okay Soosan....I've been slacking on my yoga too!!!:-( :-( :-( :p .

Briee (I ALMOST did LL yesterday!!)

Oh...I did HE#1 this morning - 60 minutes of it and then had to run to church. Haven't done this in a while. Hope everyone has a great superbowl Sunday.

Ooooops, I guess I miss read. Darn, now I have to go do L&Gs LOL!!

I've gotten lazy and didn't do my chins. This is why I put them in between sets of exercises. Alas, I will try tomorrow.

HE #1 is that hardcore extreme? I sold mine. I also sold the terminator. Just don't care too much for compilation dvd's. Not even a huge fan of cardiofusion.

The superbowl is on!!

It's okay Catherine....you go do L&G and I'll do LL tomorrow morning. Yes this morning I did Hardcore Extreme #1 almost all the way through, didn't do the very end weight part. The cardio killed me.

Onto the superbowl.....best game ever. Why? because I did P90X chest and back through the game. Didn't really watch the game, never do - makes me crazy to sit that long, but doing a workout through it was awesome. That's my toughest workout and having a distraction almost made it bearable :7 :7 .

Briee (yes that was 2 workouts in one day, but if you saw my last month - I really should have done 10 x( x( )

Almost forgot...my first set of chins was 10 - haven't done that in a LONG time. Total was 21 pullups and 17 chins - various handgrips.

Soosan, I forgot to mention this before. KEEP USING THAT ASSISTED MACHINE WITH LOTS OF WEIGHT ADDED. You really gotta figure in body weight - I'm short and compact. You are TALL and gotta weigh quite a bit more simply because of your height. I would be VERY cautious and use more "assist" for quite sometime until you get used to that for a while. It's NOT worth hurting yourself just to get a chin rep. I still like negatives too, but am wondering...can you do negatives with some weight assistance? I have NO idea how that machine works...but if it works that way...I'd throw a few of those in as well. Just a thought.

Hello Chinster's-

I still have to lay off the attempted chins as my arm still hurts a little when I just hang from the bar (which is about all I can do anyway!)

I've been doing more endurance weight work. I had a lot more aches and pains when I was lifting heavy. I wonder if I went too heavy too fast.

Briee-as I was reading your post about donuts, someone here at work asked me if I wanted a donut

Have a great day.

Joanne

Waving hi to Joanne!! Sorry you are still having trouble. Lifting heavy too quickly can increase stress on joints and cause more aches and pains. I know when I was doing heavy biceps (20 # heavy for me) my elbows would ache. Haven't done that in a while.

Well I did KPC this evening. I did the ab work too!! Briee I am getting better about this ab work thing!! I did a few measly uh hum 8 chinups total. Just was too tired after KPC. Must figure this out so I can increase my numbers!! Oh and did I mention DOMS from LL!!!
Now, what to do tomorrow??? I think I am done with S&H, maybe. I know what I really need,... P90X,.... but I am procrastinating!!!

But Joanne...you never mentioned whether or not you accepted the donut?;) ;) I'm locarbing again and missing them terribly!!

I did LL today (just because of Catherine) AND the ab work. It HURT...the ab part I mean. I obviously have been slacking on abs. I'm so happy for you Catherine-that abs are getting easier. You're motivating me!!! I'm scheduled to do P90X shoulders and arms with my P90X bud tomorrow and then IMAX II with the rest of the class - I think I'll need LOTS of coffee!!

Briee (I just took motrin for the pain from superbowl P90X chest and back....Owwwwwwww! I am SO sore.) AND I DRANK WATER.x( x( x(

Wow, Briee - 10 chin-ups is absolutely amazing! I bet .00001 per cent of the female population can do that many! I'll be doing UB at the Y today so will do some assisted reps. You're right about using as much resistance as I need so as not to get injured. I'm totally with you there.

Joanne, sorry to hear your arm's still bothering you. You made me laugh when you said all you do is hang there anyway so it's no different. We're two peas in a chinning pod!

Catherine, good for you for sticking 'em in between sets in other workouts. Even if you're not gung ho pursuing them, you're still doing them and are able to do more than just about anyone. You are SO strong!

I've been working out hard. Still doing B&G once a week which is giving me incredible results, UB at the Y, short, intense cardio, Drill Max, BC or another circuit and yoga stretches. I actually did a very tough 90 min power yoga podcast with a friend on Sunday and it felt great. Even though I haven't been doing yoga as much, the post-workout stretches are enough to maintain my flexibility.

Have a great day, everyone!:)

Sooooooooooooosan, thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I've been a bit bummed because I am not making any advancements with these. Not even back to where I was in July of last year (before my sciatica). But I know that mentally I am not trying hard enough. I have a block that I need to get by. Till then I'll just keep doing what I can.

I read your post to Cathe and it sounds like you are getting awesome results with B&G. I must try this once a week!! I am however still sore from LL on Sun :( Mostly my hammies. Must have been all of those bleeping deadlifts LOL!! I did Magically Hips last night. I have been faithful to my once a week yoga!!! Now if I could just get brave enough to try YogaX again }(

Waving to Briee and Joanne. Keep up the good work ladies!!

Have a great hump day!!

It's me again LOL!! Reporting on chinups this time. I did S&H C&B (thought I was done with S&H, but really like the C&B) Did 20 total chinups. Today was my 9th day of working out in a row without a rest. I got off schedule early last week when my Uncle passed away and took unsched rest days and now trying to make up for it. I am planning B&G tomorrow if I can make it (wink wink Sooooooooooooosan!!)

Hope you all are doing well!!

Catherine....congrats on the 9 DAYS IN A ROW and AWESOME chinwork!!!!!! Soosan...what a sweet comment. Everyone has their strengths, others blow me away in other areas. LIKE CONSISTENCY.

Last night we had 3 new ladies in our class so we did supersets instead of the IMAX II/P90X shoulders and arms combo. So today I did P90X S&A, and then I did BM2 combo 1,2 & 3, and powerdrills with leg work. AND the most important part....I did the AB SKIPPER in its entirety. (and hated every minute of it).

I'm having a string of great days too and I don't want to fall off the boat again. Catherine...we've got to keep each other going!! Soosan is so dedicated and diligent. Debbie too. Joanne too. Where is everyone else? Sandra? Michele hasn't ducked in a while. ;( .

Briee (off to bed):7

Oohhh...I'm doin B&G tomorrow too!!!! (we're all jealous of your northern facing tush Soosan!). I can't believe the damage in the last month of sickness and inconsistent workouts - gained about 5 lbs and it's all in my southern facing backside.
