Chin-Up Check-In Fri 4.7

Rest between your sets. You'll see a big difference. And give yourself credit, those negatives are hard!!! It took me weeeeeeks of doing negative to be able to do 1 chinup. So keep your "chin up" (get it- hee hee!!!) and keep on!!

Catherine

Melody, by "sets," do you mean "reps?" Cathe often uses the terms interchangably but I take a "rep" to mean, say, one bicep curl, and a "set" to mean 12 of those curls in a row without resting. The next group of 12 reps would be the second set. So, with your chin-ups, are you doing 4 8-ct neg reps in a row, resting and than doing 2 more reps at a 6-ct for a total of 2 sets and 6 reps? I just wanted to clarify so I could answer your question about resting between sets.:)

When I do my negs, I do one set of 7 reps and I do rest a second or two between the reps. I have yet to attempt a second set, but will do so once I get to 10 reps. Clear as mud?:)

That would be a blast!:)

I hope you're still not feeding them.

Melody...if you follow them around all day (your skinny boys), you will know exactly why they are skinny. Our kids are in the process of collecting those "airsoft gun things". You must wear protective sunglasses. I've followed them into the woods for battles - GREAT CALORIE BURNER - lots of dirt. Now that I think about it....I think it's the dirt. All my kids are skinny...all my kids get REALLY DIRTY. I'm so smart.

Sooooooooooooosan...VERY good clarification.

Briee (for the record...I'd rather meet at Dick's in Hawaii, or maybe they have a chain in the Carribean?)

I like the way you think, Catherine!}(

Does dirt help with chin-ups?

LOL at the 'round the world Dick's tour cult, skinny boys with weapons in the woods, dirt helping with chinups....BTW I AM skinny...maybe I'll just eat all the boys' food.}(

Sooooooooooooosan, by sets I mean #1-get up there and lower down slowly for the 8 ct negative, stop #2-repeat...#3-repeat...#4-repeat...until I can't go anymore. Maybe I should adopt your approach of only one set of negatives until I can make the 10 ct negative? Then up sets or reps? Clear as your mud?

Briee - My boys ALWAYS get so dirty o/s in the woods...they have to strip down to underwear o/s before entering the cabin. In the summer I hose them down o/s.:7

Sooooooooooooosan - I don't know if dirt helps with chinups...I'll try it today and get back to you.

Melody - I hose them down too - I'm NOT kidding. They came back from the pond one day and they had covered their entire body with mud, head to toe, I couldn't tell them apart. Come to think of it...I should have had them try chinups, but I think their hands would have slipped off the bar. :p :p :p Maybe I'll try that when it warms up.

Catherine - I'm just sure Dick's would give us a great discount if you organize this event.

HEY-
I have to go back to Atlanta on Tueday and think I'll take the gang by Dick's. Gotta love it...tents set up to crawl in and out, canoes and kayaks to practice rowing, putting green, net for hitting long drives, a rock climbing wall, AND the workout equipment all set up. Really, this is a fun world place.:+

Edits, oh yeah, anyone doing chinups today? I'm not.:p

No chinups for me today, taking a rest from them after Friday's shoulder pain. Shoulder is fine today, but just want to be safe
;) I did do kenpoX this am though.

Dick's around the world,... I like the ring of that. Do you think they'll let us camp out in their little tents??

Catherine

No chin-ups for me until Monday. I love that two rest days in between works better than one. I also love that doing them doesn't take too long so the dread factor's not as high as it could be.

Briee, we want a full report by this afternoon, young lady.

Catherine, I'm sure Dick's worldwide would have no objection to all of us and our adorable families camping out in their pup tents for a few days. They'd probably let us use all their camping equipment too. Let's see, we'd need cooking utensils, sleeping bags, rock climbing gear, sleeping bags, foul weather gear...am I missing anything?

Just LOL at Catherine and Sooooooooooooosan planning our "camping trip". Sounds like we'll really be "roughing it" in Dick's.

Who's bringing the smores ingredients?

Regarding chinups (gotta keep up appearances you know) my upper body is so sore from last night. Do you guys do your chinups/attempts on the same day you work your back?

I think Dick's should supply all food and beverages. I'm sure there are restaurants nearby that would help sponsor our trip.

LOL about keeping up appearances!:7

I don't necessarily do them the same day I work my back. I just don't do them the day after I work my UB. I'm certainly no expert, however, since I have yet to do even one. I'm just testing the waters to see what might work. My goal is to do one by December (next birthday) so I hope I'm doing something right!

My chinups coincide with my workouts. Doing P90X rotation, although almost done. But for now I do them when the workouts call for them. I also just do them when I walk by the bar sometimes. Which maybe accounts for my shoulder pain?? x( So I'll stop doing so much.

Soooooooooooosan,
My goal was to do one by my 40th (june) and I started in Jan and did one by mid march. So girl you will be there!!

We need a slogan for our Dick's adventures. I'm not very articulate though, any thoughts????

Catherine

I finally worked out and it's 12:30 at night. Did ME, started with chinups set of 8, 9, 8, 6, 2 negs with 20# at 15 second descent, 2 negs at 10 sec descent. Skipped some of the back stuff in ME and subbed a few of the chinups as listed. I tend to skip the back stuff and just do sets of chinups or neg chinups if I do them within a Cathe workout. If I'm doing P90X, I do chinups within/throughout the workout.

Night night - you're probably all in bed by now anyway.

Briee (major procrastinator here)
