I recently read a post talking about how age 16 is the current accepted age for weight bearing exercise. I have, however, heard differently from various physicians. I thought this journal article would be good to share as this is becoming a hot topic nowadays. The article is from the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness, dated June 2001 and is basically the current policy statement on this topic. It does state that weight training for the preadolescent is ok as long as good form is taught and used and that competition-level weights are not used. For details...
