Good morning, cheetahs...

I had less trouble waking up than I thought I would. (I thought I might not be able to move after BC - lol.) Planning to get a nice run in after work today. Not sure if weights are on the agenda...gonna see how much energy I have. :)

Have a great day, everyone! Now off to read last night's posts, if there were any more.

-Cathy :)

Susan ~ in answer to your question, yes, I do run with my iPod. I know it breaks a sort of cardinal rule about running outdoors with headphones on. I never *used* to do it, but for some reason, I tried it one day this spring and became hooked. I do keep the volume low so that I can still hear everything around me.

And yes, I do struggle with clean eating and staying on track. Sometimes I'm in a zone and stay very disciplined, but at times (like yesterday's BBQ), I go off and have to regroup. Social gatherings are tough. Eating clean is definitely much more of a challenge for me than being motivated to workout.

Good Morning Cathy and all who follow.

I receieved the final email from my running 101 class and found out that most of the class showed up and ran the race on saturday! Do you know how much of a wimp and a loser I feel like now!? GRRRR!x( ;( :-( I should have just gone. I knew I should have just gone. This is gonna bug me now. ACK!

On a brighter note, the new class starts tomorrow, 6pm, so I am looking forward to that.

I am trying to decide on a race to run still. I will pick one soon though.

Not really sure what's up for today as far as my work out goes...I'm off track from the weekend so I'll have to figure it out this morning.

Off to chug some coffee.

HI!
Cathy- BC was a favorite if mine for a very long time. Ah, so many WO so little time!

Wendy- today is like a new week for you since you are starting from a rest day. The choices are all yours!

This week I will use the gym styles for weights. I will do one of themn today and perhaps 30" elliptical if I can over to the gym later this morning.

Hi Judy, have fun with the GS series. I haven't used that series in a while. I'll have to give it a go soon.

Well, I have created a loose 1 body part per day rotation for myself while still sticking w/my 4 days of cardio:

Monday: Back and run
Tuesday: Biceps and legs
Wednesday: Chest and run
Thursday: Triceps and legs
Friday: Shoulders and run
Saturday: Other cardio

So I guess today it's biceps and legs. Now I just have to pick the vid(s) I'll be using for the week!}(

Hi, ladies.

Wendy-easier for me to say, but don't let it bother you. As soon as you run your first race, you'll forget all about it! Good rotation, btw. Hearing about your running class got me thinking....I am going to suggest at my YMCA that they consider holding a class like that. See what they think.

Judy-enjoy the Gym Series!!!!!

Cathy-I like running with music as well. I feel guilty when I do, but oh well! LOL

OK....as for me. I got up this morning and did Step Blast for the first time in a long time. It felt GREAT!!!!! I couldn't believe how I forgot how much I love the long all-step workouts! They were the basis of my weight loss when I first started my 'journey'.

Also, after much consideration, getting advice from you ladies, and talking it out, I have decided to defer my Marine Corps Marathon entry until 2007. It just FEELS to be the right thing to do for ME right now. So, THANK YOU to all of you who put in your 2 cents for me and for your support. I feel like a weight has been lifted and I like that release of pressure! I think that's why this morning's cardio step session was so much fun!

Now, to whoever asked a few days ago (sorry, forgot who asked), but I don't think I'll be doing PF Chang's in January either. First, I can't get the kids out of school at that time, since my older DS is scheduled for school testing that week. Not to mention that I may not feel like OFFICIALLY training for that either. One step at a time.

NOW.........let's update each other on our races. What do you have coming up? What are you training for? What's on the horizon?
ME......I've got the Philadelphia Distance Run (half marathon) in 2 weeks on 09/17. Shooting to beat my last 1/2 marathon time of 1:51:10.

Hi Cheetahs,

Monday, a fresh start. A recovery week for me. Need to focus on Party4Max.
My 5 miles went well yesterday, a good choice for me coming back from a cold. The PLB & floorwork was also a good choice. I felt like it loosened me up in a good way before the run.

Today I walked on the TM and will finish a PUB & core from PUB later.

Wendy--don't kick yourself about the race. The others in a class made a choice that was good for them, you made one that was good for you. Many other races are in your future. Don't sweat it. Remember that only a relatively short time ago, you were running outside for the first time in a long time. You are doing great!!!

Judy-- have a great week. Gymstyles are fun and focused. How's your daughter's swimming going? My kids start the new program this week. So far the groupings & changes look good.

Cathy - have fun on your run this afternoon. It is hard to get up after a long weekend.

Hi to everyone else checking in later.
Barb:) :) :)

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...maybe doing BC made you sleep better!! I have not done that one for a long time. Enjoy your day back at work.

Wendy...I would not feel bad at all for missing the race. If you were more of a seasoned runner and had run for about 15 yrs, then you would have experienced a few nasty weather runs. Just because others showed does not mean you had to be there. I'll bet your DH would have also been very worried for you. Let it go, there will be many more races...:)..Pick a fun workout today!!

Judy...a Gym style week sounds fun. That is cool your DS's team did so well in Hockey!!

Katrina...MIS is a tough and long workout. Good Job.

Elaine...yes I can tell you are excited for your marathon! Backing off on the weights as you know is a good idea. You can get right back into them after your awesome marathon..:)

Susan...no, I don't listen to music when I run. I probably would on a treadmill but outdoors I want to hear things around me...Yes, I do struggle with bad eating sometimes. Weekends tend to be the hardest times. I just focus on eating good and drinking alot of water the next day...Hope you had fun at the Zoo.

I'll be doing PLB standing and a 6 mile run.

Have a good day...:)

PS. I should get my Garmin today!!! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/r/dance.gif[/img]

Hi Barb...we posted about the same time!! Good run and PLB yesterday. I am doing that today...Hope your recovery week before the big party weekend goes smooth...:)

Morning Sekcy Cheetahs!!
Today is legs and abs for me. No carido today, BUT...I HAVE TO GO ON A JOG TOMORROW!!!! Its ganna be beautiful weather here (for once;-)) and I gatta take advantage of it. Plus school starts thursday. At least 4-5 miles.

Cathy-Hope you have a nice run today:) I love BC too!

Wendy-Your not a loser. Things like that happen. Take it from me where almost EVERYTHING goes wrong}( Also, thats a good rotation you have:)

Judy-Hope you have a good workout! I was thinking about doing the GS today too, but just GS legs.

Gayle-Glad you made a good decision;-) Also, I wish you luck w/ the Philidelphia Distance Run! I know you'll win:)

Barb-Hope you get a good workout!

Carol-Have a good run!!! I haevn't done BC for a while too. I only do it once a month.

Have a good day Cheetahs!!

Morning ladies. Well, the back is feeling MUCH better. I think in a couple days I can start working out again if things keep improving. I took my shoes back yesterday, but decided to wait on buying a new pair until my back is better. Ugh, I hate not working out. I feel like such a bum. I've been stretching though.

Have a great day! I just sent my daughter off for her first day of pre-school.;(

G'morning Cheetahs!! Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate for me to get in a 5 miler this morning, pouring rain & lighting/ thunder so we had to cancel our run. I went back to bed! :p Then had to get up & get my girls ready for school & drove them today so they didn't have to wait in the rain for the bus. Plus it's my 5yo's *all about me* special day so she had to take in snacks plus some of her favorite things & I knew she wouldn't have been able to carry it all by herself! And now it's time to take Allison in for her meet & greet at preschool!!! She is so excited, it's just for 45 min this morning & then her first *real* day on Friday. She knows ALL about what's going on since both of her big sisters went to preschool there too. She is soooo excited, is it time yet, is it time yet?? ;-) Don't worry, there will be pictures taken!! ;-)

I think I'll do KickMax for my cardio later & maybe PUB or some upper body. I'm trying to cut back a little on the weights now that I'm tapering but I can't give up my weights yet!! :p

Gayle ~ Good plan to post-pone a bit! It sounds like you're really happy about your decision & that's what counts! My marathon is Sept 24th, less than 3 weeks to go now!!! And, my 3 friends & I are all signing up for the Indy Half marathon in May, so that one will be a ways off but it's nice to have another goal after the marathon's over!!

OK, off to do some LaundryMax & VacuumMax before taking my dd to school!! I swear w/out being home pretty much all weekend I have at least 3 loads to do!

Hugs,

Hi cheetahs-

Todays WO is done. I did GS Chest & Triceps, abs from C&W and 30" interval bike inside. yea!

Carole- You've got to share your Garmin review!

Katie- Hopefully the rest will help your back!! It stinks to have setbacks from injuries!!

Jes- Have fun at preschool with your baby :)

Barb- Only a few days till 4 parites!!! DD has a swim meet today and she has been improving steadily, but not back to her previous best times. Her attitude about swimming is fresh and positive and for that I am so pleased.

Gayle- I think you are wise to rethink your race schedule. I couldn't run 1 mile if my heart wasn't in it.

Hi Fitlibrarian, Marcia, Thomasina, Elaine, Shelly, Christine, Mattea, oh dear Hi to all my Cheetah friends!!!

I have a question:

Which Cheetah recommended abook on nutrition for running? And is it really hlepful? One of my running buddies is really not very regimented in her eating or anything else. She just runs a lot with no goal or plan. Her approach to eating is trial and error and spontaneous, and she has dramatic ups and downs in her workouts. I thought the book might help her (and I). I recommended she see a nutritionist, but she doesn't want to shell our the money.

Good morning!

It's a 5 mile run and PUB for me today. I'm still in a happy place after Sunday's 20 miler and am looking forward to the next one.

Judy, I have and like a lot Runner's World Performance Nutrition For Runners by Matt Fitzgerald. Barb mentioned another one that I don't have so she can chime in on hers.

Wendy, Just think about how much more prepared you will be when you decide on the next race to sign up for. I would imagine that the 5K last weekend was miserable so I wouldn't be beating myself up over not running it. Does the next running class have a race goal?

Carole, Have I ever mentioned that I just love my Garmin? :) One of the things I like most is that I can download the info from a run and see all of my splits including the elevation. Maybe when the one I have is worn out I'll spring for the one that you are getting.

Cathy, Have a great first day of school!

Good morning to everyone else, Gayle, Jess, Adri, etc...

Gotta walk DD to school then go for my run. Talk to you later!

Elaine-Have a great run and have fun w/ PUB!!:)

Hello ladies,

Thanks again for all of your input about the struggles of eating. I am going to really try to just listen to my body and not get obsessed with the amount of calories I am eating or burning.

Wendy, that sounds like a great rotation.

Carole, I have been running without the ipod outside lately because for some reason I find it distracting. On the treadmill I definitley have to have it. Good luck with your Garmin!

Elaine, thank you for all of your info and it sounds like you have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to running. I will have to keep picking your brain.

Gayle, I have a 10 k on September 16th. My first one ever. Sounds like you have a lot of training going on right now. I can't imagine a half marathon yet. What an inspiration!

Seeking guns, thanks for sharing your eating struggles. I agree too that it is much easier to workout than to eat cleanly.

Well, I am going to run 5 miles on the treadmill today and focus a little more on speed. I find when I run outside I focus more on endurance. I will then to Legs and glutes lying leg work.

Have a great day to everyone!

Susan

Back again for a few greetings:

Gayle -- I think we were posting around the same time. It sounds like you are making good decisions. The great thing about running is you are free to choose what you do. Thanks for reminding me of your race date. I marked it down.

Judy-- that's great about your DD's improvement and attitude. Enjoying the sport and feeling engaged with it is most important. Your workout sounds great today. How is your hip? I'm impressed you can do the drop-set push-ups and an interval bike ride.

Carole -- thanks for the good luck wishes for week o' the parties. Have a good run today. I really felt good after working my legs yesterday. It's not always the case, so i appreciate it when it happens.

Susan-- glad you are feeling better about eating. It's a journey...LOL. Good luck on your 10K. I bet you'll do great. You sound ready and if I could run a half marathon, you can, too. I'm sure of it. When I started training for the half, my longest run was only 7 miles. You are already at 8.5 -- it's only 4.5 more miles and you build up to it gradually.

Susan & Judy -- I have the book Elaine mentioned and I thought it was excellent. I also have Sports Nutrition for the Endurance Athlete by monique ryan and the Nancy Clark book on Sports Nutrition and Lisa Dorfman's book on sports nutrition for the vegeatrian athlete. I found the books helpful to understand how to fuel and refuel for running vs. thinking just about diet.

Hi Adri-- have a good day and enjoy your last days of vacation before you head back to school. My son in 8th grade (your age) had mixed feelings about going back today, excited to see friends, but sorry summer is coming to an end.

Jess-- your daughter sounds adorable. Sorry about the rain this morning. But it sounds like you are primed and ready for your marathon.

Hi Cathy, Katrina (smart decision about the shoes), and all other cheetahs yet to check in.

-Barb
:) :) :)

Hi Elaine--sorry I left out my Hello to you even though I was thinking about you with the Matt Fitzgerald book. Glad your run went well today. I'm doing PUB, too. Enjoy the happy feeling after the 20 mile run. I'm in awe. How's your DD liking school? How's it going for your DS? My kids started today and am anxious to see them after school to get the scoop.

-Barb

Hi Barb! My 5 mile run today was absolutely awesome! I decided to run it as if I was racing and the feedback I got tells me that I am on track for a decent marathon! My fastest splits were *uphill*! (can you tell the endorphins are flowing right now?) My DD likes school although I had to keep her home on Friday because she had a fever she did decide that it's more fun to hang out here at home with me. She says recess takes such a long time to get there. She's funny! My DS seems to be doing OK so far. I've been in touch with his resource teacher and have asked him to set it up so that my DH and I can meet with his teachers. We've found that things seem to go a lot smoother with the school work if we sit down with his teachers a couple of weeks after school starts when they have some idea of what they are working with. Thanks for asking, it was sweet of you to remember what I was whining about a couple of weeks ago!

Hi Barb- I feel the same way too. I wish summer was a lot longer here. I mean winter in Maine is brutal.

Take Care Cheetahs;-)

Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry with your girlfriends.
