Cathlete
Good morning, cheetahs~~~ http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee296/runninteach/th_happy-038.gif

How are we doing today?

Gloria ~~~ I found myself nodding my head as I read your post. I think kids from lower-socioeconomic backgrounds tend to have the pro athlete dream more. I saw that a lot in my old school, especially among the basic skills kids. :( I'm jealous of your weather--things are getting hot & humid here again. Back to the soup!I don't love city driving, but the big city races can be fun. The crowd helps, IMO, with longer distances.

Wendi ~~~ no snickers here. I watch DWTS. :) Yes, I did get in my ab work in the evening. Lucky me, now I'm sore EVERYWHERE! :7 Did you see my question about the college visit. How'd it go?

Christine ~~~ oh, oops! I misread your post. I think you are going to be OK for the race. If you're not feeling tip-top, you can always treat it as a training ride. Or if you think you might risk injury, there is no shame in not riding. This race did creep up quickly! Either way, you have our support. :) :) :) Hope today you're feeling better.

Carole, Christine, Posh ~~~ any update for us on the fire/smoke situation? I'm a little concerned we haven't heard from Posh--hope she's OK.

Today's workout will probably be k'bells, some light work on the EXT or a walk, and stretching. Yesterday afternoon, my calves tightened up on me in a major way. I realized I'd absent-mindedly forgotten to stretch (DUH! http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee296/runninteach/grouch/th_duh.gif ) after my morning run. Coupled with Monday's calf work, this was not good. I foam rolled for about an hour last night, trying to work out some of the knots, which helped some, but they are still pretty stiff. I really did a number on myself.

Hope everyone has a terrific Thursday! BBL--

*hobbles out of the thread*

Cathy: I was in bed really early last night! IA the big city races are fun. I think I will get a hotel the night before since it is about a 3 hour drive from where I am at. Then I won't have to stress about it in the morning. Bummer about your calves. Good idea to foam roll last night! I usually have about 2-3 NBA/NFL hopefulls every year. :)

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Hi, Gloria aka WT (T for triplet) :) :) :)...Glad to see someone else up early :)...The hotel sounds like a great idea. I mean, who wants to drive 3 hours after a race?...I am pretty much hurtin' all over today. *lol* But all the other stuff is just regular DOMS. I thought about doing a local 5K tomorrow...one I used to do...but given the return of the heat and how tight my legs feel, I think I'll just focus on Sunday's long run...what's on your agenda for today?

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Cathy: Probably a 4 mile run, abs and yoga. I don't do a lot of the local races anymore. Good idea to focus on the long run. How long this week? Hope I didn't miss it on an earlier post. By the way, my Yahoo home page is down. Are you experiencing this too? DH might be able to come with me to the race so that will be nice.

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Good morning lovely cheetahs! Sorry I had no time to check in yesterday. Been a tad crazy lately for this crazy cheetah. As expected, the seller countered with an offer which we anticipated and we agreed to. So the house is ours:7 Feels good to know we'll have a permanent home base again soon. We'll be going there next Monday so I'll be sure to take my camera to share some pics with you. I'm in New Jersey now... had to come back to access our financial records, fax, etc and will be headed back to Philly later today. I'll be working over the holiday weekend :)

I plan on taking advantage of being in NJ to get out for a nice suburban/ocean countryside run. I'll go for 8 miles or so.

Got an e-mail from my sister Christy in Pakistan. Things are still pretty tense there and my sis and BIL are pretty much restricted to their house due to the mega intense security. She says she feels like a prisoner. But mentally anyway, she sounds like she is holding up well.

Cathy- Sorry you're hobbling around today and hope that tightness works its way out. ITA agree about crowd support on the longer races, especially marathons.
After mile 18 or so that crowd support makes a huge difference!

Gloria- Sounds like some nice races you've got lined up. Actually I like entering several shorter races before a marathon and use them as tempo training runs so to speak.
But, to each his own... we all know what works best for us. I'm running the 18 miler in Oct with Wendy because A. I'm using it as a training run for the Philly marathon,B. I love LBI, new jersey, and C. I want to support our fantastic Wendy!

Christine- I was able to skim yesterdays posts and I'm so concerned for you!! It must be so frustrating for you cuz you are used to being so active. Big cyber {{{{{HUGS}}}}}}

That's it for now... sorry I don't have time to catch up more!
Love to all the cheetahs

Shelly

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Gloria ~ I don't race much anymore these days, either. See? The WT label fits! *lol* This week is 12. I didn't post it, I don't think, but even if I did, there's no way for us to remember everything. Especially as teachers in summer mode.:7...My Yahoo is OK, but sometimes when it gets funky, I exit the internet and reopen the browser. That seems to help...It's always nice when you have company for a race. But I guess it is boring for them. :)

ETA Shelly ~ great to hear from you! Was a little worried given the situation abroad. Glad to know they are safe, first and foremost.
http://www.millan.net/minimations/smileys/congratulationss.gif on your new home. That is fantastic news. SO happy for you!!! :) :) :) Looking forward to the pics. Enjoy your run today.

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Shelly: Soooo fantastic you got the house. I am looking forward to the pics! :) I too was a little worried about you. I am happy to hear your family is okay. :) Enjoy the 8 miler!

Cathy: I've tried that and even restarted the computer. The page is just coming up blank. x( At least I can get on cathe.com. Whew! I guess we are wt's!!! :) It is boring for those who don't run. Last year when we went to Missoula for my half, DH and two of our friends came along. The night before I went to bed early and they were up late drinking CABS and slept through the whole race. It didn't bother me. They are all good peeps anyway! :)

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Mornin' loverlies!

Had myself a great 5.2 miler in 45:15 this morning. I actually felt like I took it easy pace-wise and figured I had gone about 4.25-4.5 miles but found, when I got home and mapped it, was pleasantly surprised at the distance. I guess it makes up for that bogus run I had a few days ago. Another ride-a-thon today and then bowling tonight so I'm a bit short on time.

Cathy - Oooh, sorry to hear about the sore calves...yeowchies x(. Oh, sorry, I'll be meeting someone about application to the rad tech program next Wed and will take it from there. I'm a little worried about getting into the program this late as the person I spoke with said that it's a very competitive program and space is limited :(. I'm transferring in with an AS and a BA and my college transcripts(which I was busy getting hold of this week) are awesome so my fingers are crossed.

Gloria - Enjoy your run today! Sorry to hear of your computer troubles...that just sux x(.

Shelly - WOOHOO, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Great to hear that your family is safe! Enjoy your seaside 8 miler today!

Okay, really gotta get moving here...I'm late. Have a great one!

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...Size has increased for some blazes but containment grows. The air quality is still listed as unhealthy. I do see some blue sky on occasion. I have been worried about Posh too. Sorry about the sore calves, hopefully they will stretch out as the day goes on.

Shelly...http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/5C/51/AnotherSweepersCorner/8/7c.jpg[/img] on the house!!! Can't wait to see pic's. Glad to hear your sis is holding up well in spite of the circumstances. Enjoy your 8 mile country run.

Gloria...We did get some help with the National Guard, I think this will all take some time. My DH has always been bad about noticing my hair (except for this last drastic change!!) I think a lot of men like hair longer. Glad you got through the Gauntlet, I have not done it for quite awhile. Hope you get the iPod today! 70 degrees for a run sounds nice. I hear you about the dirt roads and dirty cars! My car is a dark green, but it has been better as they chip sealed the roads last year.

Wendi..I watch "So You Think You Ca Dance" too! Love Twitch and Carrington...:)..That sounds yummy filling the hard boiled egg white with Guacamole, forget the chips...:). Some of the fires have gotten worse, some better, but containment on all is better. Good run this morning.

Jackie...I think its kinda fun have the Terminator for a Governor! The run went well. Got in 4 miles. Good leg and ab workout yesterday.

Christine..I did not know you were having cardio problems! Is it your back? Sending {{{HUGS}}}

I am planning on some leg work (exts & curls) 40 min on my EXT and then about 30 min of yoga.

have a great day...:)

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Hello all! I'm back... had to cut the run a tad short due to some GI issuesx( However, on the bright side it did stimulate me to run faster (LOL) and I got in 6 miles at a 8:35 pace.

Cathy and Gloria- our teachercheetahtwins- (tct?) Thanks for your warm congrats and concerns re: my family. Youze guys are da bomb and you make me feel good!

Wendi- Betcha that entry into the rad tech program is yours!! You're a go getter and I'm a thinkin those transcripts are impressive. But I have my cheetah paws crossed for you of course! Great job on the run today!

Carole- Our poor Cali cheetahs!!! Only occasionally some blue skys??? You guys need a break!! Major {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} to you, Posh and Christine. Poor Posh really seems to have been hit bad with the air quality. Hopefully she'll check in soon and update us. Good thing you have lots of indoor alternatives for cardio workouts!

gotta get busy now and get together paperwork for a new home loan
(oh joy)

Shelly

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Good morning Cheetahs!

Christine - Glad you're feeling better. I'm sure you will get the cardio back soon. Hope that bike ride motivates you.

Wendy - Isn't it nice to do a workout without a lot of equipment sometimes? Another bell? You go girl!

Gloria - Want see DBF this weekend. He's entertaining his in laws on his deceased wife's side. I really didn't want to do that. They don't live in the area and rarely see each other. I'm fine with that. I'll just take the time and relax. Keeping my fingers crossed for that ipod today. You will do a great job with that race and driving!

Wendi - You're right! I did giggle at your tv show. Hope you enjoyed it. Now, I'm an HGTV fan! :) Just relaxing this weekend. Great run for you today! How is the foot doing?

Cathy - Ugh on the calves! You foam rolled for an hour? How did you motivate yourself to do that? Hope they feel better.

Shelly - Congratulations on the new house! Yippee!! Now to start moving boxes again. x( Thanks for the update on your sis and BIL! Saw where 15 hostages got rescued. Hope things will get better for your sis too. Continuing to keep them in prayer. Good run for you today too. I have those issues when I run outside sometimes. Most of the time it's in the middle of the run. Hate it too!

Carole - Saw more about the fires yesterday. Hope they can get them under control soon. A good rain sure would help in a lot of areas. Enjoy your workout today.

I did iTread #26 30 minutes and got in 3.4 miles. Did 25 minutes of AK intervals and combat and 20 minutes of Denise Austin Yoga Body Burn.

TGIF on Thursday! Enjoy your day ladies!

Jackie

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Cathy – Hope your calves are feeling less tight! Ouch! Yes, I’ll be dropping to an easier ride, but one that will still challenge – the equivilent of a 10 mile run, I’d say. I won’t fret as much about that one. Thanks so much for your support, either way. I know the fires are still going on. The one that’s in our news the most is the one south of Big Sur. But there are still fires to the north where Posh lives. Hope she checks in.

Gloria – Oh Gauntlet is one of my favorites! The trail run sounds perfect! You’ll have fun with that race!! ITA about getting the hotel so you don’t have to stress.

Shelly – YAY!!!!! The house is yours!!!! *Does Happy Dance around the room with Shelly!* I’ll bet you are ready to have a permanent base. I’m happy you’ve settled that. Sounds like a great property. Thanks for the update on your sister and BIL. It must be scary for her (and you!). Enjoy your run today!! Thanks sweetie for your concern! I’ll get back. It is frustrating, but this too shall pass. I’m going to ride today. I’ll ice my back, and stretch thoroughly. I have a massage scheduled in Napa, so that will help and if it continues to bother me, I’ll break down and go to a chiropractor early next week. :p

Wendi – Great job on the run!! Love when it turns out I ran further than I thought I did. Enjoy your ride-a-thon. I have my fingers crossed for your application to the rad tech program. I’m sure you’ll get in – I have faith in our workin’ Cheetah! I hope you’re right about going into the ride strong.

Carole – We have more blue skies because of the way the wind is blowing, but every now and again we’ll get ash on the cars. DH HATES dirty cars, so he must have cleaned them about 10 times in the last two weeks. :p My cardio problems are only from not being able to really workout. I’m sure after a week of steady workouts, I’ll should be okay. My back is still bothering me, but I also have a cold (honestly, if I HAD to get a cold, to get one when I need to rest anyway, is the time to do it). I think I’m on the mend, but we’ll see. I just need to do some heart pounding cardio today. Thanks for your concern.

Lorie – hope the flight was nice and you’re having a blast in Florida!! Enjoy your family!

Thomasina – check in quickly so we know you’re okay! We’re worried about you!

Judy – enjoy your family reunion – it sounds like a blast! The chipmunk story – Oh my!

Wendy – glad you had fun with the bells yesterday! There is a simplicity about the bells – you can drag out one or two and get a good workout instead of tons of weights. I may take my 15 pounder with my this weekend.

Jackie – Thanks for the motivation! You’re very gracious to not be a jealous wreck while DBF is entertaining his in-laws. I know there is no need to be, but so many women I know would be.

I’m feeling a little better – still stuffy but I’m not feverish. I’m off today, too. So, I’m planning on hoping on the bike and doing a Spinervals. I don’t know how long I’ll go, but… Then it’s PackMax (doing LaundryMax now), then I drop Jimmy off a the Downtown Dogs Resort and Spa… then off to Napa. Phew. I’m looking forward to being done with this – I need a break. I’m going to be very careful in Napa. And we’re scheduling massages in Napa. :p I dropped to the 50 mile ride, which does not have the killer hill. I’ve already ridden 30, so I think 50 will be fine. I would love the challenge of the 65 miler, but there’s always next year. Have a great 4th everyone!!! I’ll take my computer with me, but I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for personals.

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Wendi ~ I'm sure with those solid credentials of yours, you will have no trouble getting accepted! Another stellar run. Are your runnin' kicks smokin'?

Carole ~ Do you miss your curls or are you still enjoying your sleek new 'do? I'm glad the relief is making a difference. Meant to say, I like your Governator, too. Makes me smile whenever he speaks. Sounds like so many of my relatives' accents. :)

Shelly ~ yikes, GI issues out on the road are never fun! Glad you made it back.

Gloria ~ :) at your spectators sleeping through the race. IA, the company would've been appreciated regardless. I finished the Barry Lane book and now I want to buy another of his. Whatta mess I am, huh? *lol*

Jackie ~ *lol* I couldn't quite believe it myself, but I was lying on the floor watching a movie while I did it, and time just flew. Now I'm gonna rack my brain about what AK stands for. :p :7 Enjoy that nice, long weekend to relax.

I opted for an AoS Newport mishmosh (rounds 1-4 + the extra round) and then 20 minutes on the EXT, which I hope loosened these danged calves some more. :7 The interesting thing was this is the first time I've done a k'bell workout with sore abs, and it was cool to feel just how much the core gets engaged on the different exercises.

Hi to everyone else! Hope you're enjoying your morning. BBL~~~

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Great job Cathy! Glad to hear the calves are loosened. I'm thinking of a mish mosh of Spinervals Sweating Buckets and Power Hour with light weights. I think that will make me feel good.

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Wendi: I love being pleasantly suprised like that!! Super! The computer is working again. Wierd. Crossing my fingers you get into the program.

Carole: I heard on the news that there were still about 1,000 fires blazing. IA that it will take time. I am going to get out for the run soon. Beauty of a morning today. Enjoy your workout. :)

Shelly: Had to smile at you saying that the GI issue made you run faster! :) You are so positive!

Jackie: I do not blame you for not wanting to do that. Thanks re: the ipod and race. :) You deserve a nice relaxing weekend. Enjoy!

Christine: I think I would rather do the trail race than the one in Grand Rapids, but they both will be fun I am sure. I think the hotel is a must too. Your DH would be in a tizzy if he saw my car right now. :) I can tell you are feeling better. Best to be cautious about the race. It is still quite a challenge. Have a fantastic time in Napa!!!! :) I have been wondering about Posh too.

Cathy: You are good finishing that book already. You are making me look bad! LOL! Those kettleballs sound like fun. I am glad no one sells them where I am at or the checkbook wouldn't be happy! I have some good friends. :) Excellent on the workout today. Down dogs do magic for my calves. Hope they are loosening up for you.

Took a little nappy already. I am going out for my run soon! BBL!!

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Gloria - thanks! It's so nice to be feeling better!!! I hope you have a killer run! Did you get your ipod yet? You'll love it!

Well I finished it - I did all but the final segment of Sweating Buckets, and all but Bi's and Tri's of Power Hour. I nodified some of the back work, but the rest was pretty okay, and I went LIGHT. I just wanted to get my body used to working again. Now I'm off to run the rest of my errands - adios!!

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Hi Girls.

I worked this morning. YAY. NOT! :p

DH was supposed to only work until noon today so he would be home while DS slept so I could hit the gym for my work out this afternoon. Now as it turns out he may have to work a full day after all so no gym for me. BUMMER. ;( As a result I am thinking of doing plyo x, interval x+ or perhaps a portion of each for a real kick-arse work out!}(

I have to leave around 4 to bring DS up to my MIL's for the weekend and then I will probably meet DH at the bowling alley for a few drinks later tonight. :9

So I ordered Tony's One on One first thing this morning! I'm stoked! I have a feeling these work outs are gonna be T-O-U-G-H!!!}( :+ }(

After work today I stopped at Target and picked up another 15 and a 20 pound bell! I'm sooo excited to do the KBG work out tmrw morning now that I can do the double bell exercises as produced and the single bell exercises are REALLY gonna rock with a 20 pounder!:7 I think I am really going to enjoy this new k-bell rotation I am doing! With a matching pair now I can do ALL bells and don't have to switch to traditional weights at all! It's going to be such a refreshing change. Exactly what I need for a little while. :)

Okay, let me post this baby and then come right back to do personals in a new post....:)

RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Thursday kickin' off the holiday :...

Cathy: Sorry about your calves. I hope they loosen up soon. I know what really tight/sore calves are like! OUCH! Do you have a long run planned for this weekend???

Shelly:Congrats on the house! That is sooooooo incredibly awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wendi:Great run. You are one speedy cheetah! So are you seriously considering the philly half now or is the date no good for you? DH and I are prebowling again tmrw morning for our league since we will not have a babysitter monday night. I hope I bowl as well as I did last week!

Carole:Hope you enjoy your work out today. So how long is it going to take to get these fires under control? Wow, I wonder how many people are winding up in hospitals with respiratory issues due to this? Scarey!

Jackie: Great work out as usual girl! Yup, I scored myself 2 more bells this morning! I winced at the cost at first but by the time I got home I was over it. ;)

Christine: Sorry you aren't up to snuff yet. Joey has developed a cough. I think I will be taking him back to the doc next week if it's not gone. It never fails that he has to go to the doc for something within a couple of weeks of going for a well visit.x( Did you get the email regarding Tony's work outs? If you follow the link in the email it will probably bring you to the main BB site so beware of that if you want to order through me. :7

Gloria: LOL you sound like me with the naps!:) A cat nap/power nap does wonders for me if I am draggin' though. It's so worth the 15-20 minute investment! Hope you had a good run.

Looks like I'm all caught up.
BBL~
