Cheetahs - Thursday Aug. 3

Hey Ladies, I wanted to make absolutely sure that I didn't bail on my run because of temperatures so I set my alarm for 6:00. I haven't been outside yet but a huge thunderstorm rolled through here last night so I suspect it'll feel better out there today. I have a few early appointments then I'm off for almost 2 weeks. We're off to be Toronto tourists next week and have planned some day trips and will visit a friend's cottage. Now that my 2 older Girls have jobs, it's like playing chess to plan anything. I'm looking forward to the break, I haven't taken vacation time in almost 3 years.

I'll check back later. Enjoy your runs and workouts Ladies:)

Take Care
Laurie:)

Hey Cheetahs,
Just a quick check-in...I unintentionally missed my workout last night...dozed off on the couch and didn't wake up til this AM -- oops! But I woke up at the butt-crack of dawn and plodded through 2.5 miles. How is it already 80 degrees at 5:45 am??? I can't stand this! Bless my neighbors who had their sprinklers runnin'.

OK, gotta jump in the shower - today's my last day of committee work -but will touch base again later.

Have a great workout, everyone!
cathy :)

Relief is on the way, Cathy - hang in there. It's finally nice here in Minnesota, so the front is moving your way.......

I'm hoping to get a 3 mile run in after work today, the weather shouldn't be an issue now for a while. Either that or elliptical with a Cardio Coach.

I'm getting excited for my open house next week, hopefully I will get good sales so I can make that $400 and then be able to get my website going. Keep your fingers crossed.

Marcia.

Hey Ladies, got my 6k in in just over 36 min. I'm consistent with my pace these days and the steady runs are getting longer. I'm pretty pleased for that. I've showered and have a client in about 25 minutes, I just need to stop sweating!!!!

Cathy, good job on your 'butt crack of dawn' (that just cracked me right up:7 !!~~no pun intended:+ ) I got in just before the sun came out from the clouds, cooler temps are coming (she said hopefully!)

Marcia, enjoy your run, I'm so sorry if I missed this before but what is that you are selling? I'm excited for you but just want to know what it is that folks will be buying buy the arm load:)

Talk to you later:)

Take Care
Laurie

G'morning gals!

I slept in a bit this morning. No work out to do before DS gets up so I figured I'd take advantage. :)

Yet another roaster in the north east today! BLECH! DH has finally given it...he is coming home at noon today. He's had enough of the heat! LOL I don't blame him! I planned to go grocery shopping after the gym this morning but now I can come home and leave DS with DH instead. This is the kinda thing that EXCITES me these days! Pretty pathetic, huh? LOL :7

I thought about attempting a long run today but since the heat is supposed to break for tomorrow and I just ran a bit yesterday, I'm going to use the elliptical today and I have the long run planned for tomorrow now. I've conquered 4 miles...I want to see if I can get to 4.5 or 5 now. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me! ;)

Cathy: Passing out on the couch is so nice, isn't it? LOL Sorry you slept through your run though.

Laurie: Glad you got your run in before the big heat set in this morning. I'm afraid to run that early. I am a very paranoid sort... I won't go out before 7-7:30 when I know there will be a decent amount of "life" on the streets. We also do not live in the best of areas right now but we are looking to remedy that.

Marcia: I wish I lived closer...I'd come to the open house you are having! :)

Judy: LOL, I guess I am usually the early bird poster, huh? I was lazy today!:p

Edited to Add:

I just had a CRAZY thought...wouldn't it be super cool if we could have a big, centrally located Cheetah GTG one day!? Man, that would so much fun!:+

Good morning Cheetahs

Laurie...wow 2 weeks off! You deserve it. I can't remember my last vacation. I seem to just take a few days here and there...:)..Good job on the 6K...

Cathy...we had a day 2 weeks ago where it was 87 at 5AM! But I am sure not as humid as what you are experiencing...I am glad you got in 2.5 miles...

Marcia...glad you are having a cooling trend. Good Luck on your Open House...:)

Christine...way to go getting the trail shoes!!!! I do think they are a must on trails. Some creeks you can jump over, then there are others....wading thru...:)...I have a hard time loosing the urge for chips. But fruit and some walnuts has worked before...I know you miss weights when you don't do it but you need to just be aware of your hand/wrist. You don't want any permanent injury...

Elaine..I would say PLB and a 4 mile hill repeat back to back would be tough!! Good idea to back off lower body a bit. Its a 21 mile run in Big Sur. Actually it is a walk too but as it is not competitve you can run or walk. Thank you for your prayers and I imagine the situation with your brother can be very hard also. I think I just have to look at it as a day to day thing. Some good, some bad.

Laura...5 miles in 40 min is great!! Thank you for your prayers...

Shelly...you are doing some great runs and workouts. I know you are enjoying P90X! Good luck going 13 miles..:)...the 21 mile in Big Sur has to be done in 6.5 hours, so you can run and walk. I bet you could do it and meeting you would be quite fun!

Wendy, my nephew should be in this hospital for at least 6 weeks. They start him in Rehab right there after he can sit up in a wheelchair for 3 hours. He does have alot of family and friend support. That can help in any situation. I hope the yukky heat goes away from you. I am happy we have gone from 115-118 to about 99-100. Makes thins alot more bearable. So you are trying to increase those miles?....I bet you would have no problem with 5 miles!! I understand your being excited with Dh watching DS. I am always excited on Mondays when my DH goes to work and I am off!! And I agree getting all of us cheetahs together would be way fun!!

Judy..thanks...:)...I hope your hip feels better soon. I do hate those nagging injuries!

My nephew did get to sit up the other night. They tried to get him out of bed to the wheelchair but as they put his feet over the bed, he got dizzy so they decided "no". I can understand his dizziness as he has been laying down for 9 days. Now though he has some kind of infection either bladder or lung. I talked to my sister yesterday as she was heading back to San Jose. She sounded better and the 2 day break away was good for her. The nurse and PT's will keep trying to get him in the wheelchair....I know I'll feel a bit better when he gets into Rehab.

Today I'll be doing Pilates and S&H legs. My legs were a bit sore from PLB the other day...:)...I am just running 4 days a week now so I can get in some other workouts.

Have a great day...

Hey Cheetahs!! This Cheetah was able to run 4 miles this morning w/ no leg pain!! YIPPEE!!!! I'm so excited, I was getting worried that it might be ITBS, but I think it really must have just been a pulled quad muscle.

Busy time here at my Mom's but wanted to peek in & say hi!! I'll catch up later, so have a great one!

Hugs,

Good Morning Lovely Cheetahs!!

Laurie – I hope thinks cool off for you! And have a great time in Toronto!!! 3 YEARS?!? Oh Cheetah Babe, you need a vacation! I do know what you mean about a chess match trying to plan, though. If it’s not one thing… Glad you got it figured out! And congrats on your girls working – so many kids don’t. I think it’s so necessary to teach them responsibility.

Cathy - Sending cooling vibes to you too! That kind of weather has me sleeping a lot too. Glad you got your run in, but I agree – 80 degrees at 5:45 is insane.

Marcia – GOOD LUCK ON YOUR OPEN HOUSE!!! What an exciting time for you! Have fun on your run.

Jess – enjoy your circuit workout! I love those days! And Hey! Glad to hear you could run 4 miles with no pain!! Great news!!

Wendy – good idea to wait one more day. I’m with Carole – I think you’ll do 5 miles okay. You’re so impressive with the way you keep increasing mileage! One day you’ll be out running me! (which won’t take much more – I’m only up to 8 miles now). I like your idea – we should start looking into races in the Midwest…

Carole – Thanks for the update on your nephew! He’s still in my thoughts and prayers as is your family. I’m going to try the walnuts or other nuts as a sub – great idea. I don’t mind the calories as much as the unclean crap that goes with chips. :p My hand is actually doing okay. I do have a high tolerance for pain, but I know the difference between good pain (muscle soreness) and bad pain (injury). Any move that hurt my hand I did not do, or I went very light on. The pushups tomorrow will be interesting…

Shelly – you HAVE to join us in Big Sur! That would be sooo fun! If you join us, I’ll absolutely up to the 21 miler!! DH is just shaking his head at me.

I put together my rotation based on Runner’s World calculator. It took my last race time and distance and calculated a training schedule based on that. It seems more logical to me than the others, so I’m going for it. It also has me running 4 days a week instead of three, which also seems more logical to me. So my run today is an easy 4 mile run at easy pace (they even list the recommended pace – I’m going to try to stick with that – love having a watch that does that). I’ll follow it with GS Legs. I know I should do GS Legs first, then the run to get the lactic acid out of the legs, but I'm not that brave yet! Especially with GS Legs.

I have to tell you ladies – I took my Mini in for servicing yesterday. I’m totally impressed by the service! They call daily with updates, they provide a free loaner car for as long as they are working on your car, and they wash the Mini before you get it back – every time! All of this for a car that was $21k. And the car is covered by a bumper-to-bumper warranty that covers EVERYTHING. Okay, so the car is the size of a postage stamp, but it’s much bigger than it looks and handles like a dream. My car is ready for pick up, so I’ll be doing that between the run and the GS Legs session.

Hello everyone,

We are off to go to the cleveland browns training camp today and tomorrow for family fun night at the stadium. Today is my birthday also!! I almost forgot until my friend marci whom I met to run with this morning said happy birthday and I said I didnt even think about it being my birthday today until she said that. I ran with her yesterday 3.5miles and today 4.5 miles. It has been very hot here lately. I am slowly getting through this rough time though and I cant wait until I feel great like I use to with my runs. I want to get an eliptical trainer for my birthday since sarah suggested it was great for crosstraining for runners. Just a cheaper one though like at walmart to start with.

carole, I am up to 9 miles biking. I never thought it would make me sweat like it does. I might start riding it to work with the cost of gas getting higher and higher.

hope everyone has a nice day, I will talk with you all on saturday evening since I wont have access to a computer until then. the hotel might have a computer, not sure though.

bye

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!!! Sounds like you'll have fun at the training camp! Enjoy yourself!

Well, my run was interesting. The training calculator told me to do a nice easy run at a pace of a 12.44 minute mile. Ah, I don't walk that slow! I ended up at a 10.47 minute mile and had to constantly remind myself to slow down. I feel good, even though my hams are still a little sore from the trail run. And I definitely could have run further. I'm feeling like this half might just be doable!! On a side note, I've driven this run, so I know where the 1, 2 and 3 mile points are - my HRM was right on. I'm very happy about that.

Hey all...back from my work out. I did my Itrain elliptical 40 min. Great work out!:)

Christine...Yeah, I like your idea! We can find a race in the mid-west (preferably one that has SHORTER distance options ;) ) and all meet up out there for a long weekend and hang out. What fun! :)

Carole...I hope your nephew's rehab goes well once it starts. What made you decide to bring your running down to 4 days per week?

Jess...Happy to hear you were pain free this morning!

Have a great day!

Hi everyone! We seem to have alot of cheetahs feeling good lately and putting in some awesome runs and workouts:7 I just finished a 13 miler on a hilly country road. I took it at a much slower pace then usual and felt pretty good. Later today I'll see if I can get through Core Synergistics

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LAURA :+ :+ :+ :+ Treat yourself well today girl!

Christine - I just love those runners world calculators! I agree with you that the pace they suggest for long runs seems so SLOW. At the start of them I'm really concentrating on keeping my pace slower,
I'm constantly checking my garmin. It does help. It's good strategy to get in the habit of kicking up your pace for the last 1/4-1/3rd of
your route. Since the 21 miler at Big Sur is non-competetive I feel this would be very doable, and fun too!

Laurie- Sounds like you are WAY overdue for a vacation there :)
Enjoy yourself! Great job on your 6k today.

Cathy- If you conked out on the couch your body definitely needed the rest more then the workout. You're doing well easing back into the running....smart cheetah!

Marcia- Have a great 3 miler after work today! Best of luck to you with your open house.

Judy- have a great circuit day. Those are my favorite workouts, the
time flies!

Hi Wendy- I assume your DH works outside....poor baby! I don't know how anyone can handle it  Get out early for your upcoming 5 miler (yes you CAN do it) Just keep the pace slow and comfy.
A cheetah GTG would be awesome, it would have to be planned way in advance though. Even though it is not centrally located I've often thought it would be neat to meet for a 5k in New Jersey (they have TONS of races there) relatively close to where Cathe is and maybe she could be persuaded to put in an appearance. Just a daydream.

Carole- That's great news that they are working on getting your nephew out of bed! That is a huge important step. The longer the bedrest the bigger the chance of infection, as you have already experienced. I'm glad your sister got a break! Like I told Christine, this 21 miler sounds pretty nice since it is noncompetetive. Just running for fun and companionship sounds beautiful :D :D :D

Gotta run - have to go to a staff meeting at the hospital :)

Later

ShellyC

Hello again-

quick before I go-

Jess, I almost forgot you!!! I am so happy your leg is better
:) Will you be going for your 15 miler this weekend?

Wendy - great job today!

ShellyC

Hey ShellyC! Great idea on the 5K in NJ! Too bad my house isn't big enough to have overnight guests!;) I don't truly expect it to happen in NJ but I am serious...I think a GTG would be great and yes, it would definately need to be planned pretty far in advance. :)

Hello everyone:)

Just a quick check-in. Yesterday I did PSBB and boy am I sore today in my bicep. I also did 20 minute iCycle on my stationary bike and it was tough}( After that went to my in-laws and did a lot of swimming.

Today I download a few iTrain and did iTread#9 60 minutes but only the first part as I was very winded. It is and endurance run with speed intervals. Mostly flat with increase of only 2 to 3% incline but not long. She does have you walk in the first half 2 times for 60 seconds after the sprint. I think it will be the same in the other half but harder so I need to really get motivated. I really like this one. I will try the 2nd half in a few days but do my own warm up before starting. Wendy this is a new one in case you wanted to know.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Wendy :: I’m notorious for nodding off in front of the TV. I agree—a cheetah meet-up would be cool! In Jersey? Even better! Is this do-able?

Laurie :: Ooh, Toronto--enjoy your vaca! Yes, I am a teacher. 8th grade language arts. I just finished GS CT. As far as the pushups, I am only up to 55. Yowzas! They’re killer.

Carole :: what a long road your nephew has ahead of him. Please keep us posted on his progress.

Jess :: glad you had no pain today! And thanks for the info on Windsor. I’m intrigued. It was great hearing your success story. Happy Anniversary!

Christine :: I find GS legs tough…I can’t imagine running afterwards! At this point, I can only manage it on days I don’t run. I love the Mini!

Laura :: happy b-day! Have fun this weekend! I rode my bike a lot while in Germany and would love to do it as cross-training, but bike riding here where I live is sort of like having a death wish. Crazy traffic -- not exactly pedestrian-friendly.

Elaine :: I am amazed myself that I didn’t gain any weight while away because I definitely indulged in the food & drink. I was pretty good about running, biking, and lifting, though. Some of my pants are actually feeling looser since I returned…yippee!!

ShellyC :: I know what you mean -- I’ve seen a few nuts running during our current heat wave smack in the middle of the day. You have to wonder.

Marcia :: good luck on the open house. I’m holding you to it that relief is on the way. :)

Judy :: sorry to hear about your hip problems. Hope you had a good circuit workout today

Hi to Barbara and anyone else I may have missed.

Have a great night, ladies!

Well, I just had a fabulous experience I had to share - I did GS Legs, the standing work only with my DD17! She's on the cheer squad and wanted get in better shape for stunting as they are doing competitions this year. I started her off with REALLY light weights, and did the exercises with dumbells instead of a bar to show her how. She had a good time, and wants to do it again! I'm thinking we'll do Legs and Glutes next. :) I would have done the floor work, but I didn't want her too sore - it's worth it. I can always add the floor work on Saturday or something, too.

Hi Cheetahs,

Just a quick post to let you all know I'm still here, and I'm thinking of you. Just two more weeks until school starts, and I can get back into a more rigorous workout routine. My internet access has been down, but I now have a new router. Yay!

My kids are home until 8/14 since camp is over, so I probably won't be checking in much until then. DS has had a stomach virus so hes was pretty sick today.

Carole, your nephew continues to be in my prayers.

Shelly, I hope you're enjoying your motorcycle training! :)

Mattea, congratulations on your DH's position, and on the new move!

Wendy, I hope your knee is better soon. (Maybe it is, I haven't been able to read the other posts yet since I'm just now able to get back online. :))

Happy Birthday Laura, and enjoy your getaway.

Hi Jess, Judy (Has your cat stopped delivering you those special gifts yet?), Christine, Elaine, Barb, Karen, Cathy, Marcia (Hope your new business is going well), Laurie (If I didn't welcome you before, welcome to the cheetah check-in. :+ Better late than never, right?), Gayle, and everyone else.

No workout today. Dealing with my son's stomach issues (I'll leave it at that :)) was enough for today. Besides, I'm still a little sore from Muscle Max yesterday. :)

Take care!
Pamela
