::: CHEETAHS ::: Sunday

Good morning cheetahs,

cathy- you are up early girl! ha, i understand. get out there and get it done. have fun with that workout today.

i am going to do the LIC total body premix (thanks shelly and cathy!) and then i am headed off for my second swim lesson.

yesterday MIL came over to visit, so me and dh took advantage and went out to dinner w/o our boys. we tried out a new sushi bar, YUMMY:9

hello to all in cheetahville:)

Hey Sunny! Enjoy TB Sculpt & let us know what you think...Nice that you & DH were able to enjoy a date night last night. I have only tried sushi once - a California roll, I think it was.

Ran 3 miles - a good, solid run & the humidity wasn't too bad. A deer did scare the hell out of me, though. I was passing a wooded area that is fenced off, heard some branches snap and something large moving in my peripheral vision, and thought OMG-somebody's back there. What a relief to see it was just a deer tail running away. Finished up today's w/out with the KM drills (man, they still slay me, esp. the hip flexors!) and the Buns & Thighs segment of Squeeze to hit the inner thighs. If I can, I may fit in some yoga later on since I missed that on Monday when I had the migraine.

Cheetah Babes!

Cathy- Hi five on the early bird attitude! Did you beat the heat?

Sunny- The no leg work approach has been for varied reasons. I have been attempting to stay in my aerobic range for running to improve aerobic function over anaerobic. My reasons for this are primarily to maintain a lower HR over longer runs. I was always in the 180 range for every run. Slowing my pace and attempting to stay in a lower HR range gives me more energy to complete longer runs without feeling like crap at the end.(Heavy leg work would undo the aerobic work, or work the opposite fibers that I am trying to improve on) Another reason is summer! There is so much to do in summer (like GOLF and walks) that I have to pick and choose my activities.

Shelly- 2 miles was just enough for a short day. I am following a Smart Coach plan from RunnersWorld.com. Tomorrow is 9 miles and today, is golf (never using a cart!) I did do LIC total body premix, before my run, based on the comments from yesterday! My inner thighs are reminding me about it this morning. :p

Carole- Getting DH to go along with you on workouts is really nice:) DH will walk with me on occasion, but his time is really tight. We had a few nice walks on our vacation including a two hour walk!

Today is golf! Tomorrow will be a 9 mile run hopefully very early. I need to find a flat course to try to keep my HR low.

For all you Garmin users, the Garmin had become my training pal. Running with my tall friends, I believe really contributed to my previous hip pain. Now running alone and at my own stride, I really don't have pain. The Garmin is entertaining for me and keeps me from being tempted to run outside my range of ability. It has been humbling though to realize I really am slower than I thought! But, since I only started running at age 45, I (finally) am learning that I do not have the ability to run like a 20 or 30 year old!

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...I think I enjoyed Ice Cream a lot more as a kid. You know what, you do resemble Sherilyn Fenn. Thanks, I got over the insomnia last night. Good job on the 3 miles. Funny story about the deer scaring you. I know that has happened to me, but the scariest so far has been the bear!

Sunny...How nice you and your DH got to have a dinner out last night! Did you ever find the monitor for your Garmin? I had my fingers crossed for you. Enjoy your LIC premix and swim lesson.

Judy...I have a good friend that didn't start running until her 40's. She does have some natural running ability (which helps a lot), and OMG is she fast and even in her 60's! But I have slowed down a lot, and it is tough trying to get the speed back. I personally think you are doing great! Also good the hear the hip pain is gone...:)

Shelly...oh...YUK on the chocolate Ice Cream!!! The only one I occasionally have is chocolate chip cookie dough...:), I have always preferred vanilla over chocolate in most things. How was the garage sale?...hope you had a fun sweatfest with B&G and your EXT.

Susan...sounds like you did well at Lady Footlocker, and Sierra Trading Post! I love Mexican food and can eat lots. The cakes turned out good and I did sleep very well last night. You wanna bring Snickers on the RT??...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/fsc/thumbs-up.gif[/img]

Jackie..I did get in a workout, a KM/L&G mish mosh. I made German Chocolate and a Spice cake. The party was great and I slept very well. Good job on the 10 miles. I so hear you about the chafing! After my very long runs I can remember a few screams in the shower!!

So, the party went off very well. Lots of laughs and visiting with friends. A good friend took a lot of pictures and promised to get some to me so when he does I can show you cheetahs. My DH told me last night that this was his Best Birthday yet and thanked me numerous times...:)...(maybe we didn't harass him enough??..:)).

I slept great and am off to do a 9.5 mile trail run.

Have a great day...:)

Good morning cheetahpals! Sounds like a very busy healthy group we have this morning.... alot of you getting in some great runs:7 :7
With my quirky ever changing work schedule I find it impossible to regularly schedule a long run on Sat. or Sun. or whatever. This week it'll be Tuesday. Anyway, instead of an EXT workout yesterday I ended up pulling out MIC, always good for a sweat!

Carole- Your party yesterday sounded like a real success. I hope your DH will return the favor when you hit the big 50  Look forward to seeing the pics. Our garage sale yesterday was a nonevent as we couldn't find the address! (very frustrating) so instead we went shopping for a new flat screen TV (a small one for the kitchen/dining area) Have a great trail run today!!

Judy- I would think playing 18 holes of golf without a cart would indeed be plenty of exercise! I can see why stretching out your stride to keep up with your friends could definitely have led to injury. I've always run alone due to the circumstances where I live.
Like you I didn't start running until my 40s and always regret that!
I often wonder what I might have been able to accomplish. Ah well!
Take it easy at your own wonderful pace tomorrow and I'm sure you'll have a great 10 mile run!

SunnyD- Wow!! You continue to amaze me. I had missed it somehow that you were learning to swim from scratch. You certainly do go for the challenge    How do you like it so far?

Cathy- Great job with your run this morning. I think my heart may have skipped a beat as well with your deer episode. Glad you enjoyed the TBSculpt premix. It's a good solid workout.

Jackie- Great job getting in 10 miles today. My goodness, you have quite a problem with chaffing if it happens after 6.5 miles!!
Have you tried BodyGlide? Probably a silly question if you've been dealing with this a while.

Susan- Sounds like you had a very successful shopping day yesterday.
You'll be looking stylish and fine at the RT. Remind me not to stand next to you.;-) You're coming along pretty well with your injury recovery. I bet you'll be keeping up just fine in August.
How did you fare with CircuitMax?

BTW Carole and Susan- I did call and reconfirm the room reservation the other day... all is set :7

For today it'll be a 4 mile interval run and a good upperbody workout. I'm thinking it'll be CTX upperbody split.

Hi to any weekend cheetahs who follow!

ShellyC

Good morning Cheetahs!

Cathy - I used Aquaphor (Carole suggested it) for the chafing problem. I think it was the different kind of top I wore yesterday and I may have missed that spot. It's a very tiny spot but enough to sting. The Aquaphor has been working quite well. Glad you enjoyed LIC! Glad you had a good run this morning and it was only a deer you saw. That would have scared the heck out of me too.

Sunny - Have fun with swimming lesson. Glad you enjoyed a night out.

Judy - Glad you're enjoying your Garmin and it's helping you to set your own pace. I love that it can keep you from wearing yourself out too fast. I didn't start running until I was 48. I notice in races, the faster runners make me want to run faster. I have to be careful with that.

Carole - That cakes sound yummy! Glad the party was a success and you got some sleep too. Hope you enjoyed your run.

Rest day for me. It's off to church I go.

Jackie

Hi Shelly - We were posting at the same time. I don't know why all of a sudden I'm having problems with chafing. Maybe because I haven't run outside as much as I'm doing now. And, it seems to happen on longer runs too. All that sweat and the wind might be the culprit. I usually wear a t-shirt but decided to try something different. I have to make sure I get that Aquaphor all over next time. Enjoy your interval run and upper body workout!

Jackie

Good Morning Cheetahs!

I have some free time before DH goes to help his son move, so I figured I’d pop in and say hi! Yesterday I created my own Circuit Workout- took Spinervals Have Mercy, and every time there was a 2 minute rest, switched DVD’s and did a segment from PH (upper body only). Great LONG workout, and it was fun. Today I think I’m going to do Circuit Max doing only lower body, followed by PLB (I have never done this one). Then DD14 and I are going to bike to a fun little restaurant for lunch (Fortunately, it’s a pretty easy ride- I’ll need it after that workout!).

Cathy- I was reading about your sister’s wedding… Wow, that’s a lot of Chutzpah! I don’t know what I would do, but I will wish you good luck!! Deer can be scary!! We had just had a bunch of mountain lion sightings and Tucker and I were out hiking when I heard a loud rushing sound. I think I did a vertical leap of about 6 feet in fright before I realized it was just a deer.

Sunny - How’s swimming coming along? I love to swim. Sounds like you had a great night last night. Don’t you love those unexpected treats?

Judy - I have been doing lighter leg work for a lot of the same reasons - trying to increase stamina and endurance, and heavy leg work is counter to that. Although I will toss in a heavier leg workout once in a while. I’m doing PLB today, but I’m going to be very conservative on the weights.

Carole - so glad your DH had a great time!! Sounds like a very yummy party!!! Enjoy your run!

Shelly - Sounds like another great workout!! And MIC is a toughie, but a goodie! How did y’all survive the dust storm a while back? I remember those from my days in El Paso. ICK! Walk outside and in two seconds you feel as if you’ve been at the beach on a windy day.

Jackie - Enjoy your rest day! Chaffing is no fun. If I wear a Camelpack for long runs, I have to wear a short sleeve shirt as the straps rub my underarms after so many miles.

Enjoy everyone!!!

Hello again! I'm procrastinating before starting my run:eek:

Jackie- eeeks! Cotton Ts on a long run? Not a good idea! The sweat just soaks right down to your skin and stays there creating havoc where skin contacts clothes. It's worth every penny to get a good sweat wicking running top for your long outdoor runs.

Christine- Always a treat to hear from you! Sounds like you're doing some awesome mishmosh workouts there! I'm particulary impressed with the one you've got planned today.... you will need to take it easy on the bike ride aftewards! I experienced that dust storm only on TV. That happened in the Phoenix area and I don't live there (thank God!) I live in the high country about 2 hrs north... no dust storms here!

Okay, this time I really am going.....

ShellyC

Good morning ladies,
Well, my circuit max workout was Great!!! I had no ITB pain and felt pretty good the rest of the day. I do need to stretch it all day though to keep it loose.

I am going to do PUB today and maybe a short step workout.

Cathy, Glad you did not sweat to death on your run. Yes, those drills are definitley hard.

Sunnydelite, OOH, I love sushi. I have not had it in awhile.

Judy, that makes a lot of sense about running at your own stride. I know when I would run with my husband, I was always adjusting the stride to keep up with him. That is great you figured all that out.:)

Carole, that is great your hubby loved the party. I recall you preferred the snickers frozen, so I may have to bring a ice bag of some sort}( Enjoy your long run!

Shelly, thank you for confirming the hotel room. Yes, I do feel this ITB is getting alot better. I will then be injury free. This year has really taught me so much about my body and how to take care of it. It is showed me how much my workouts mean to me:)

Jackie, enjoy your well deserved rest day!

Christine, nice to hear from you:) Sounds like a kick butt workout! I love the pic of Jimmy. He is so cute. I bet you get a lot of kids wanting to pet him when you are on walks. My girls still have to stop and pet all the dogs they see when we are out. They would go nuts over Jimmy!

Well ladies, I am off to church.

Cheers!

Susan

Judy :: yes, I did beat the heat (see earlier post) :). Enjoy golf today and tomorrow’s long run!

Carole :: Glad to hear everybody had a great time at the party! Looking forward to the pics. The cakes sound *de-lish.*…I never grew out of the ice cream thing. :) I’m a desserts kind of person, anyway…Yeah, a deer sounds pretty darn lame compared to a bear! *lol* I really don’t think I would run outside if I encountered the kind of wild beasts that you & Christine do!

Shelly :: I run alone, too, but I prefer it that way. Unless you have someone who runs at the same pace, I think one (or both) of you suffer…hope you enjoyed today’s w/out!

Jackie :: I used the Aquaphor, too (that's actually the stuff I meant when I referred to it as Eucerin--Aquaphor is made by them). I started using it on my lips, which have gotten very dry since I’ve been on the Accutane -- great stuff! No chafing for me, either, today. My skin is still sore and cut up from the other day, though. For some reason, my sports bras have suddenly started rubbing me wrong. I think it may be partly due to the Accutane, actually. Your skin becomes a bit more sensitive and scratches/wounds easily.

Christine :: that does sound like a great – and LONG – workout yesterday! How’d you like PLB today?…re: big sis’s wedding…yeah, chutzpah – I think so, too. I just don’t understand why Disney – it’s SO much more expensive than pretty much every other cruise out there, and no, they don’t have kids…I am doing the opposite of what you and Judy are doing, and I may be crazy, but I think it is helping my stamina.

Susan :: glad you enjoyed a pain-free workout! *lol* about not sweating to death. Enjoy PUB!

Shelly - glad you missed that dust storm! I hate those things!

Susan - you're always welcome to come over with the girls to visit Jimmy. He would LOVE it! I would, too. :)

Cathy - I think our bodies all respond differently to heavy vs light weights. Carole goes heavy a lot and look at her! Shelly is the same way. For me, lighter weights work better. Although I really enjoyed PLB. It's a down and dirty workout - hard core, but fast. Pretty much every muscle group hit in 30 minutes. Gotta love it!

Well, I changed my workout a bit as I realized that walking would be tough - let alone riding to Saratoga after that workout. So I did something similar to yesterday - took Spinervals Sweating Buckets, which is a more high cadence spin workout (than hard heavy gears), and switched back and forth - Spinervals warm up, Leg presses, first spinervals set, lunges... It worked out very well actually. I ended with a fast spin after the calves. Could have finished with floor work, but that's on my rotation for Wed, and DD14 was getting impatient. :+ The ride to Saratoga was fun. Now, we're going to go swimming. Enjoy everyone!!

Shelly..wow! MIC is a real tush kicker, way to go. I have done my long runs on Sundays for so many years, it would be so hard to change that, but I can see with your schedule how it could be very tough to commit regularly to a certain day. Yes, I would say I could be in trouble when I turn 50. It used to be fun being the youngest of the group but it can come back to haunt you...:)..You are a sweetie for checking the RT reservations for our room, I can hardly count the days til I get to meet some of the cheetahs!!!!! Hey, you can stand by me as my outfits will be nothing fancy, probably running shorts and a t-shirt. Enjoy your interval run and CTX upper.

Jackie...I am glad the Aquaphor works for you, I love it myself. I agree with Shelly about the cotton t-shirts. I have gotten a couple of coolmax t-shirts from races that I have run in and they don't chafe too bad. I did enjoy my run today..:)...I hope you have a good rest day and enjoy church.

Christine...sounds like some fun circuit mish-moshes. I did a bit of PH last week and it was a lot of fun. I didn't know you had not done PLB yet. Sounds like you enjoyed it. I have always loved pyramid weight lifting. My run today was nice. I would love to go swimming right now with you...it's like 104 here.

Susan...I am so happy you had no ITB pain! Have fun with PUB. That is so sweet of you to remember my frozen candy preferences...:)...but I know I can still eat a snickers non-frozen...:)

Cathy...the party really was fun. I am more of the chips and salsa person over anything sweet. Bizarre I know...:)...Well one bear is not so bad. I am amazed at the times I have seem mountain lion tracks but never the actual animal. Which I am not sure is good or bad.

The run today was fun. Made about 9.8 miles. I walked a bit during the last 2 miles. Right now I am focusing more on my speed and not distance. I know the speed workouts will eventually make my long runs easier...Got my procrastinating DH fixing some sprinklers and our water heater, as one of the elements got fried! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/shock11.gif[/img]..he is being a good guy...:)

Hi Cheetahs!!!!

I am home from my Hawaiian paradise honeymoon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a dream, but it is so good to be home after being gone for 2 weeks. Besides, it was getting to be way too pricey for us! The food is excellent, but the prices are crazy!

I hope to catch up on everyone's life, but.....no promises! I know I missed out on a lot, so I will try to catch up daily.

I did run a few times while I was away. I mostly did water aerobics on my own in the ocean and pool!!!!

Carol - I think you had asked me before if I wanted to become aerobics certified to work either full time or part time and my answer is definitely part time. I love my teaching job with the kids, and the benefits are just too good.

I would love to start part time and see where that takes me!

Take care all!!!!

-Amy
