RunninTeach

Cathlete
Good morning, cheetahs :)

Well, today will be a break for the legs (amen!) :D…I plan to wrap up CTX chest, back, and shoulders a little later.

WENDY :: good luck today!! I know you’ll do great! :D…I used to be in a bowling league and know exactly what you mean. The time commitment is insane!…A three-minute long ab workout sounds like it’d be just my speed. Oh wait, you said it was tough? Never mind…*lol*...enjoy the hibatchi tonight!

Jazcam :: welcome! Tell us a little about yourself.

Sunny :: Me, too! I am about 15-20 minutes away and have been seriously tempted to join her gym but have not b/c of the distance. I even emailed her recently to see if she & her partner would consider opening another gym in the area, but she said they were just too busy with all that they do and had no plans to expand. But I’m cool with being able to take a class every now & again when I’m off…Is your face breaking out? My derm said this will be my last month on Accutane ~ I’m *thrilled* to see an end in sight!!!

Marcia :: GREAT! I have been doing the Aug. 04 rotation, but I modified it. Take a look at it. http://69.0.137.118/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=7&topic_id=1409&mesg_id=1409&page=2 I’ll be finished with the current rotation on the 23rd. I’m open to one of the other LB rotations, too.

Susan :: I picked up a good stretch for the ITB area. Try this. Stand in a doorway. Take the right foot and cross it over the left. Then lean in deep to your left side. You’ll feel a good stretch on the outside there. Then repeat on the other side.

Kristi :: I have been doing a modified version of the Aug. 04 rotation and changed up the order of my workouts (thanks, Wendy!) doing weights first and then cardio…I like it…and I’ve found I like working the legs hard…My heart goes out to you and to Wendy and to other folks who have lost one or more parents at a young age. I had a student this year who lost his father at age 13, and the poor kid just fell apart. I felt so helpless because even though I tried to listen/talk w/ him, what can anyone say or do to make that better? Nothing. I know he wasn’t getting too much support at home as he’s only child and his mom wasn’t handling things too well herself. He was doing the whole gotta-be-strong-for-her thing…He’s a kid I’ll worry about.

Jackie :: thanks for the info on the iBi Boot Camp – don’t have access to an elliptical, so I’ll save myself the trouble of looking that one up.

Hi to everyone else! Have a GREAT day & w/outs!

Good morning cheetahs

Sunny...Xstretch can be kinda boring but I know I have been lacking in the stretching dept. and the day before a trail race, I thought it'd be perfect so I really enjoyed it yesterday...I agree with you about Cathe's new Bootcamp...wow! Glad I preordered.

Cathy...glad you survived your leg torture day yesterday. I always feel good after an adjustment. re Baby showers, I think they are more fun if you already have kids...:)..enjoy your CTX workout today.

Wendy...the workout yesterday was just right. Good Luck on your 5 miler!!

Jazcam...Welcome, and yes there is always room for more here in cheetahville!

Jackie..thanks, the stretching felt good yesterday and today I am just planning on having fun!

Susan...glad the ortho appt went well. For ITB my Massage therapist massages the area above the knee along my outer thigh all the way to my hip, but does not massage the actual sore area on the outer knee (if this makes sense). I use the foam roller the same way.

I will be heading out soon for the 2 hour drive to Ashland. Looks like the temps will be in the mid 60's for the trail race/run. I plan on having lots of fun!

Have a great day...:)

morning,

I see you picked a new name cathy!

Well I am off for a early morning run with my friend. The weather is beautiful.

We met with the contractor wednesday for our new home, deciding where cable, phone outlets will go etc... The plumbers ,electricians will be in next week sometime. They delivered our bath tubs, showers and siding yesterday. I am getting so excited but still havent had much happen with our current home. we have an open house next saturday so I am hoping we will get some offers after that. I just dont want stuck with two house payments.

Have any of you ever hired a personal trainer for yourself just to kind of kick it up for yourself and make yourself have someone to be accountable to? I am considering doing this just to give me that extra push.

anway, off to go run, have a nice day.

Good morning cheetahs,

cathy- the dermatologist gave a prescription for a oral medication (forgot the name), however says if this doesn't work i should really consider accutane. i never would before because i knew i wanted children but now that i am done i would definitely consider. how is it working for you?

carole- go, go, go!! :) good luck with your race today. a 15k trail race is amazing!

laura- i think hiring a personal trainer is an excellent idea;)

wendy- have fun with your 5miler today. you will do an awesome job as you always do.

i have leg DOMS from my workout yesterday. i just love lifting heavy}( .

i am going out for a run this morning and then later on after the boys finish swimming i am trying out a yogabutt class at the YM:p

have a great day to all!

Hey Cheetahs: Kathy, Wendy, Sunny, Marcia, Susan, Kristi, and Jackie...nice to meet you all. While I'm waiting in the doctor's office for my checkup I'm going to read a few of the past posts that you ladies wrote. Just to get to know you better.

Well I'm a single mom with two kids (Jazlyn and Cameron) and my name is Robin. I work and live in Queens NY.I've only been doing Cathe for about two months now. I've developed this strange addiction to buying Cathe's DVDs. LOL In the past I WAS a Firmie. Like I wrote before I workout about 6 times per week @ 5:00 A.M. I usually push myself more on the weekends.

My workouts rotation:

Sun: Strenth training and stretch max
Mon: Power Walk 1 hour
Tues: Circuit Training 1 hour
Wed: OFF
Thur: Kick Boxing 1 hour
Fri: Power Yoga 1 hour
Sat: Step Challenge (over 1 hour)

During the months of Sept to June I'm also a girl scout leader on Sat mornings. I try to teach my kids and girl scouts about good nutrient and exercize (they love to dance).:) :)

Hey Cheetahbabes:) It's so gorgeous out I'm tempted to run but I ran 8K on Thursday and just over 9K yesterday. I'm thinking I'll do B-Max step and intervals with no leg weights then GS BSB. I'm finally giving my notice at the chiro clinic on Monday and still dreading it. For so many reasons it's the right thing to do but I still hate doing it. Had my peer assessment on Thursday, 2 hours and 10 minutes and it went very well, nice to know that, professionally, I'm on top of things (even though it rarely feels like I am). There's a Buskers Festival (street performers) in town this weekend so we'll go check that out this afternoon, should be fun.

Cathy, great that you've mixed things up and are enjoying working those legs HARD}( The blog and text re the new kickboxing workout has got me very excited to receive them, I know you like k-box much more than step. Have you had many side effects from Accutane?

Carole, GO CAROLE, GO CAROLE!!!!! Hope you have a super happy fun run! The temperature sounds perfect. Looking forward to hearing how it goes:)

Laura, have a geat run! Building a new home is such a mixed blessing. A friend of mine is doing it (again!) and I know her head spins with the countless decisions, both big and little, that she has to make at any given time. I think a personal trainer is a great idea, always good to give your body new ways to work it!

Sunny, hope you have a great day! Yogabutt sounds like a good one! }(

Wendy, enjoy your 5 miles. It's become my favourite distance.

ETA ~ Robin, Welcome to the Cheetahs and to the wonderful (and addicting) world of Cathe. The first few months are a great credit card workout but worth every penny. Nice to meet you :)

I'd better finish my coffee and get this show on the road!:) Later Ladies.

Take Care
Laurie

Carole :: how could I forget?? Best of luck in today’s trail run!! Looking forward to your race report, too. :D …I guess I am just one of the rare women on earth who is not crazy about showers – bridal or baby. I find it kind of silly to sit around and watch a bride or mom-to-be open gifts and pretend to be surprised when she created a registry and specifically asked for those items. :) And the hat-made-of-bows thing — all of that, I’m sorry, I could just do without it. The bridal shower, in particular, seems excessive – gifts for the shower AND the wedding, and sometimes even the engagement, too, now. It’s too much, IMO. What can I say? I am a shower grinch. }( :D

Laura :: I have not hired a trainer, but I have thought about it. I say go for it.

Sunny :: the Accutane has done wonders for my skin. It is back to looking like it did in my 20s. It does come with a lot of side effects and you have to jump through hoops every month (blood tests and online quizzes before your scrip will go through), but I tried a bunch of other stuff (e.g. Soledyn, Retin-A Micro, Duac) and nothing worked.

Robin:: great to know a little more about you…I am in New Jersey, not far outside of Philly. I’m a 33-year-old middle school language arts teacher. I enjoy running, kickboxing, lifting with Cathe, and yoga. The yoga, unfortunately, I tend to drop when things get busy, so I’m working on keeping it a regular part of my practice. LOVE to travel. Also enjoy photography, reading, and skiing.

Laurie:: good to see ya…wishing you cool & calm when you go to give your notice on Monday!…Big congrats on the well-done peer assessment!!…funny to read that and see that folks in other professions feel the same…Yes, I have had some side effects from the meds – dry lips, sometimes dry eyes/contact lens issues, muscle/joint pain, and fatigue. Fortunately, my cholesterol and triglycerides have stayed well within healthy levels.

Good morning cheetahbabes! Just finishing up my night of work, wasn't too bad, busy at first but then it mellowed:) After I get off I'm headed straight for my favorite running trail and going for a 3 mile run. After a nap I'll be doing BM2 Scrambled eggs:7 :7

Good luck Wendy and Carole---- Go Get em!!!! Run strong but more importantly..... have fun!!!!!!

Cathy- Are your legs talking to ya today? You really gave them a go around:eek: I'd be hitting that foam roller if I were you! BTW, I'm a huge shower grinch myself, especially baby showers, can't stand em!

Laura- Do you have your house listed with a realtor or are you selling it yourself. Personally, I'm a firm believer in realtors, especially in a buyers market, they can make a world of difference.
Anyway, an open house can stimulate alot of interest. I think signing up with a PT is a very good way to jump start your fitness level and keep yourself accountable. I'd try to get some recommendations from friends if possible.

Robin- Welcome to cheetahville!!!! We're very happy to have you join us and chat:) Your kids have beautiful names and I guess I can see where you get your screen name from;-) Your new to Cathe also eh?
Hoo boy, this is only the beginning}( It's a wonderful obsession to have though. Do you ever run? Your current rotation looks like a good one!

Carole- I use the 30lb dumbbell for back work, no NOT biceps:eek:
For PUB biceps I use 12,15,20 and that is plenty! The weather for your race sounds absolutely perfect!!! Can't wait to see pics.

SunnyD- Let's see... yesterday you did an awesome leg workout, yoga and kickboxing and you call ME amazing? Look in the mirror there girl, I don't know how you manage it all. Okay, Im intrigued.....
Yogabutt?

Jess- The latest superbuffbabe p90x grad! Can't wait to see those after pics!

Jackie- You reminded me yesterday, I downloaded an iBibootcamp workout
and never tried it. You've inspired me....... again;-)

Susan- I suspected all along your knee pain was likely ITB. Good news about your MRI. I think this is all positive. ITB is definitely
something that can be licked! foam roller, foam roller, foam roller..... can't stress it enough!!!!

Wendy- Good luck sweetie!!!! I'd say you are definitely ready for
some good 20lb DBs. I love the convenience of just dropping one pair and picking up another, even if it does mean having a whole string of dumbbells.

Duty calls now.... I hope I can check back in later.
Have a great one!

ShellyC

Morning Cheetahs - a quick "HI" before I head out the door. DS, his cousin, MIL and myself are going golfing this morning - should be interesting. ;-)

I have DOMS from my 2 hour walk with my mom after I did Cardio and Weights. It feels good, though..... }( Not sure what I'll fit in today, I'd like to get IMAX2 in before I bartend tonight, so fingers crossed that there is time.

Cathy - I really like the August rotation to had me look at. I printed it out and it's a 'goodie', I'm in with you if you decide to do it, just let me know.

Marcia.

G'morning Cheetahs! I decided to sleep in this morning, woke up at 8!! I'm enjoying being done w/ the X just so I can take it easy on myself for a couple days.. (maybe! }( )

I have my final measurements. I did not lose ONE pound, my weight fluctuated around but ended up at staying the same.

Chest- Down 3" (but yes, I still have jugs! ), and down 1.5" (under) the band

Waist- Down 1.5"

Hips- Down 2"

Thighs- Down 1.5" (and let me tell you how thrilled I am with this, I haven't been able to shrink my thighs in AGES!)

Arms- STS (stayed the same) but look a LOT more buff!

So.. I'm down almost 10" but at the same weight!! Muscle definitely makes a difference!!

I'm going to do the fit test in a bit & have my dh take my after shots.

Thanks for the support as I did this round of the X!!! I'm doing another round starting August 20th, so if anyone is interested that would be fun to do together!! (Sunny, Marcia, Wendy, anyone else?)

I don't know what my next plan is going to be until then. I think I'm just going to do S & H since I just got it (when I preordered!) and want to try them out! I really love lifting heavier! And I'll keep up w/ the running & biking.

I'll post more pics/ info later! :)

Good Saturday morning Cheetah!

Wendy - Funny about your son not crying when you left him with your mom. I know you're happy you don't have worry about him at all. Stop trying to enable me on that tatoo.:) My kids would wonder what got into their mom if I showed up with a tatoo. LOL!! I would probably be the same way as you in the gym using some of the iTrains. Wouldn't want people looking at me all weird. If it were a small gym, I don't think I would have a problem. Good luck with your 5 miler today!

Cathy - Bet your legs appreciate that break. How's the tush today? It's nice to be close enough to Cathe's gym that you can pop in every now and then. Love those state of the art gyms. So, you've been feeling ok with this round of Accutane?

Carole - Good luck on the race. Sounds like nice weather and you're going to have fun.

Laura - Enjoy your run. Glad the house is coming along well. I've never hired a PT but have given it some thought to motivate DBF to try different things. No cigar yet.:)

Sunny - Yay for the DOMS! Hope you had a nice run. Enjoy that yogabutt class. It sounds like fun.

Laurie - I'm glad you decided to give your notice Monday. That will be a load off your mind. When does the new job start? Enjoy the festival today.

Robin - Thanks for sharing about yourself. I started out with the Firm too. Now, I seem to have outgrown them and only do them once in awhile or when a Firm urge hits me. Love your children's names.

Shelly - Glad your night went pretty well. Sounds like a great day of exercising planned for you. The nap sounds good too. I thought about you during my race on Sunday as I was asking myself why am I out here killing myself. Then, before I could get home I had made up my mind to run the second 5K on July 22. Originally my plans were to run one race of each distance. Darn this race bug! Hope you enjoy the rest of your day after that monster workout!

Jess - Glad you got to sleep in. Awesome results from the X!! Can't wait to see pics. I love the S&H workouts. Got some great results using them.

I ran 8.4 miles this morning. The temp was about 69 and really nice. Thought I'd add a couple of miles to my regular run that I'd never run before. Of course, it was two lovely dogs that wanted to chase me. I had to stand my ground. Wonder what it is that I attract these wonderful dogs. Must be fresh meat or something. LOL!! At any rate I was glistening when I finished the run. Came back home and did 20 minutes of stretching using the foam roller.

Enjoy your Saturday ladies!

Jackie

Hi Girls.

I just got up from a doozy of a nap! I slept for like TWO HOURS...I NEVER do that! So now I feel like it's morning again, LOL, and am chugging coffee before I move on to GSBS&B timesaver in a bit.

The race...funny story...I left the house a few minutes later then planned. I drove to the race with my friend so I went to her house and we took her car from there. We had a little issue finding the place which took a few extra minutes and then it was HORRIBLE to park! We drove around for a good 5-10 minutes to find a spot and then had to walk almost a mile to get to the registration tent/start line/etc.

Well, we asked this guy where the registration area was and he told us it was by the start line. Turns out it was several blocks back from where we came from so we had to run back and forth. We were literally RUNNING cause we were sooo late we were afraid we weren't going to make the start of the race! I broke out in a sweat running back and forth! Once we were bibbed up by friend had to use the bathroom so she told me to go ahead and she'd look for me. Worse case scenario was that we were going to be along the beginning of the race route and would jump in when the runners passed us. Well I was able to get in line and she followed a few minutes later.

The race ended up going off almost a half hour late!!! That is the ONLY reason we made it! Then we couldn't remember where we had finally parked the car. We were so worried about getting to the start on time that we never looked at a street name or anything! LOL It ended up not being bad though as my friend recognized a landmark right off the kick but between walking to the race area and the running back and forth pre-race and then walking back to the car post-race we HAD to have added an addional 2 miles of walking/running on to our day. LOL

Now for the actual race...It was probably the biggest race I've run in yet! We were seeing bib #'s into the high 2000's! As we were running (near the back of the pack), after everyone spread out a bit, we could see the direction we were headed in probably atleast a mile ahead of us b/c of all of the people in the race. They looked like a bunch of marching ants they were so far away! LOL It was a nice flat course but it was HOT. Not a lot of shade although there were several towns people nice enough to have their hoses or sprinklers out for us. That is my fave part of summer racing!;) We took it slow. I only pushed up the speed a bit at the end when I could SEE the finish line very near to me.

I was wearing my garmin and did not start it until I got to the start line (since I'm slow and was at the back of the line). At the 5 mile mark it was 55 mins 7 seconds. At the finish line (5.07 miles) it was 55 mins 48 seconds. I looked at the official clock when I finished but can't rememeber the time and am really not concerned with it. I know what my 5 mile time was. I averaged just over an 11 minute mile. Like I said, it's on the slow side for certain but I wasn't in this for the speed today. They had snacks post race so I grabbed myself a water, a plain bagel and a peice of watermelon. YUMMY! Then I even got a cup of coffee as they had Dunkin there as well! :9

On the way home my friend and I were talking. We decided that we will train for a half together. I don't know how much running we will manage together but we will be striving for a common goal. We are not going to train with the intent of running the entire thing. We will train to do a walk/run. I am very excited about this because opting for the walk/run makes it a much more doable goal in my mind. Once I complete one this way then I can move on to all running if I want to. Do you think we'd be ready to do this by the fall or should we look for a race in the spring of 2008?

Thanks I feel very welcome. I really don't run anymore...bump knee. I do like to power walk in the park around the cornor from my house. And right down the block from the park is a Fire House with cute Firemen. Yes sometimes I need motivation.

You ladies are very active and I see that most of you are runners. Good that is a great way to stay fit. Jamarba (sorry if that not your name) My cats do not help me with anything (LOL) but my poodle loves to show me how to do a downward facing dog (with his head up):+

GOOD LUCK Ladies on you weekend races!!

Aloha Amy... enjoy.

Susan- rest that knee and you will bounce back quickly

Can someone tell me what is the name of the Clean Eating Check-In forum?

This morning I did the LIC premix 1 (all cardio) and boy I need to work on my endurance.

Hi Jazzcam. I'm sorry but I never really got to welcome you the proper way! So....

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to the newest member of our little family!!!! We are happy to have you!:+

Don't worry about your endurance girl. It'll improve with time. I noticed you are pretty new to Cathe so definatley give yourself a break. You will be amazed when one day you can zip through all of the workouts that you once thought were soooo tough!}( Cathe is da bomb! So did you preorder the new work outs?? ;-)

Wendy..... HAH! I knew it I knew it I knew it!!!!!}( }( }(
I seem to remember not very long ago a certain cheetah telling me she wasn't interested in doing a half marathon..... "too much training". heeeheeeeheeee, I knew you wouldn't be able to resist the "next challenge".

Seriously though, I think your approach is very sensible. Alot of people walk/run them and I think you are more than capable of doing this by the fall.... absolutely!!!!!:7 :7 :7

Great job on your 5 miler today. Sounded hectic but FUN and that's what counts!

ShellyC

Robin- LOL about the cute firemen!!! Nothing like a little eye candy during a workout;-)

I agree with Wendy, don't fret about your endurance level. Do what you can and in no time you'll be churning out the Cathe workouts
like a pro.

ShellyC

shelly- yes I am going with a reality company. I have open house next weekend.

jess- great job with p90x

wendy- great job on your race!!

I ran 5 miles with my friend this morning and boy has she been kicking my butt with the pace. the last few runs we have done together she has been running them 9:30 pace the whole time, by the end I am pooped but its good for me. I use to been the one dragging her but she has upped her running from 4 days a week to 6 training for a marathon and I think that has helped her pace alot.

have a nice day!

Well...I knew it'd be slow, but hey, I did have fun and no falls!!! Somehow I always forget what a tough course this is. I started off too fast (trying to stay with my sister, but she has been running awesome!), so when I got to these uphill switchbacks about mile 4...I walked, geeze was I tired. Then I ran the rest of the race concentrating on my pace. I walked a few steep hills and got passed a lot. Ended up with about a 12:00 pace. 2 years ago it was an 11:06 pace. Have no idea where I placed as it is a 10 year age group, and I am in those upper 10 years! Makes me want to be 50...:)....No pics as DH & I got in a fight yesterday...:(..When I asked him why he didn't take any pics he said "I just forgot"...I say "whatever"....My sister got 3rd in her age division and I was very happy for her. One of my other running friends who is 60, well he got 1st in his age group....cool...:)...thank you all for your well wishes.

Laura...glad things are going well with the house.

Sunny..have you ever tried Retin-A for acne? I know it didn't work for Cathy, but I have adult acne and it has worked well for me for about 17 years. Have fun with yogabutt...:)

Laurie...it is always tough leaving a job...even for the right reasons. Have fun with B-Max and your GS workout.

Cathy...I am with as a shower grinch...but I bet Kristi has fun..

Robin..nice to hear more about you. I used the Firm too, years ago. I will caution you...Cathe is highly addicting and we are all great enablers!!! Like the others said it does take time to build up endurance...don't worry, you WILL get there.

Shelly...well geeze....20# for PUB Biceps?....http://bestsmileys.com/signs16/19.gif[/img] Hope your run and BM2 scrambled eggs was a fun one.

Jess...congrats on the 10" loss!!

Jackie...great job on 8.4 miles. Hey, the dogs always like me too. I always carry dog biscuits now and sometime throwing one of those gets them off track. I am lucky now, most of the dogs I encounter are friendly.

Wendy...wow, I have run some disorganized races like that..PITA!!! You did great!! Loved your story...I think you would have no problem doing a half. If you plan on some walking Fall would work, but if you want to run (even slow)I think Spring might be better so you can get some weekly miles built up slowly.

Seems the Michelob Ultra is calling...:)

Carole!! CONGRATULATIONS on running your race and having fun:7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 :7 That's what it's all about cheetahbabe.
I gotta tell you though.... I'm 50 and I still get my fanny wupped in my age group. There's lots of fast old ladies out there!
Oh well, we still can pat ourselves on the back for getting out there
and doing what 99% of the population wouldn't dream of doing.
That course does sound like a challenging one!

I think this calls for a few Michelob Ultras;-)

ShellyC

Thanks Shelly....you are a sweetie...:) A few to many Ultras and I might be asleep....http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/sleeping1.gif[/img]
