Cheetahs - Happy Friday, Aug. 4

Cathlete
Happy Friday, cheetahs!

Just getting this thing started. Am about to head out for my run. It's only 77 degrees at the moment, so a cold front has apparently blown in...lol!

Will be back later.

Good morning!

Cathy good job on getting going early!

I would love to run mentally, but my hip is saying no way. I did the Gauntlet and BC abs yesterday and it wasn't any worse. Today will be a KPC premix, and the leg drills from KM and yoga.

I realize I felt better last week with less running. So I will keep cross training and try a run or two each week to see how I progress. I need to stretch more.

Jes how is your leg?

Wendy- are you getting out for those runs with out Joey home?

Carole- Thanks for the updates on your nephew. ~Keep the faith~

Marcia- Are your preparing for your open house? And has it cooled down enough to run? It has here in upstate NY.

What is up with the rest of us? Christine, Shelly, Mattea, Laurie, Barb, and Barb and Elaine.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURA!!

I know I missed a few but TGIF to all Cheetahs :)

Good morning cheetahs

Thanks again for all of your thoughts and prayers for my nephew. He did have a bit of a setback yesterday as the infection was in his incision. So they did surgery to fix that. I just hope he gets into a wheelchair as soon as he can as Shelly stated laying in that bed is not good.

Jess...glad your leg is better.

Christine....I also need to cut back on chips I think they have been a food group for me!! I know you will be smart about your hand, I just always fret a bit about injuries...:)..Have fun with the pushups you crazy cheetah woman!!! I am glad your HRM is working for you. I am quite familiar with 12-13 min miles...:)..That is so cool your DD did GS legs with you and likes it!!! I wonder if she will be sore?....nah....:)

Laura...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/bday11.gif[/img] That would be a nice gift an eliptical. I hope you get one. Enjoy the Browns training camp...I bet it will be fun.

Wendy...after bombing in Siskiyou in the 50K I figured I should cut back a bit on my running as I am not training for anything long right now. I always miss weight training and other cardio when I run 6 days a week. I don't know if you are familiar with Covert Bailey, he wrote a book called "Fit or Fat" and I remember he said one of the best things to do exercise wise is to train for a marathon....BUT...don't run it! As in training you never run the actual 26.2 miles. The longer distances increase your chance for injury...interesting as that is just what I did. I trained for the 50K and didn't run it!!!

Shelly...good run for 13 hilly miles! That would be so fun if some of us could meet up in Big Sur....we would get quite aquainted in 6 hours!...:)

Barbara...good PS workout. Intervals are good for strengthening your endurance. Sounds like a fun workout!

Cathy...I will keep you all posted on my nephew. I can get updates daily...:)...you cheetahs are a great support system for me...:)..Enjoy your run today.

Pamela...thanks...:)...sorry about your internet access....routers that work well are always a good thing...I am glad you were able to post...:)

Judy....I will keep the faith. ..:)...Could be a good idea to back off running for awhile...let your hip rest...

Today I am doing Power Half Hour shoulders, bi's and tris and a 4 mile run.

Have a great day...

Good morning everyone and Happy Friday!

Hi Cathy have fun on your eary run. Glad it's cooling down. It's a tad bit cooler then the past few days we had.

Judy my hips have been bothering me too. I think for me it's the running or just getting old, LOL. Hope you feel better.

Carole have fun with your run and weight workout. Thanks for keeping an update on your nephew. Sounds like he's on the right road for recovery.

Well not sure what I am doing today. I want to try the iSulpt and go to the Y and do iClimb. Can you tell that I am addicted to iTrain:) I might just do 1 of them as I want to get to Bed Bath & Beyond & BJ'S. I will try and check back later.

Cathy-Enjoy that 77 degrees while it lasts! LOL

Judy-My Joey-less time is not until this coming week. I am planning 2-3 runs Friday-Sunday. I am going to a/c but can run the boards in the morning. }(

Carole-When one trains for a marathon you never actually run that many miles? I'd be afraid I couldn't finish if I didn't run the actual mileage atleast ONCE! Do you know the rational behind that? I'm just curious. :)

Barbara-If you do ISculpt, please let me know what it's like. I am curious about it as well. :)

Well, today I was supposed to Ripped early but I didn't roll out of bed until freakin' 9:15! LOL I slept lousy last night so I guess I was tired. I am going to the gym for my long TM run (5 miler if possible) and then will have to do weights at nap time.

Someone yesterday posted to me about getting outside early to try to run the 5 miles...I'm not up to 5 miles outside yet! LOL I have 3 under my belt outdoors so far. I WISH I was about to try 5 outside! That would be awesome! I wouldn't be so nervous about the 5k if that were the case. ;)

Well, since I woke up late, Joey is sleeping VERY late...must go scoop him up! He is AMAZING! I've waited until 10am to get him up and he doesn't complain at all!!!! :+ He normally doesn't get up until between 9-9:30 which is amazing all on it's own! My next baby is going to be soooooo bad....My goodness I am in for it!:p LOL

Good Morning Cheetahs! Happy Friday!

Cathy – hope the run in the “cold front” felt as good as it sounds! Glad things are cooler for you!

Judy – sorry your hip isn’t feeling much better. Gauntlet is one of my favorites!

Carole – Sorry to hear about your nephew – hope the infection clears quickly! I did have to laugh with DD17 – in the middle of the exercises her voice raised about an octave. She answered me in squeaks. But after the stretch she did tell me, "Oh, that was fun!" We'll see if she can walk today! Oh, I did make her wear a HRM - figured it would be more motivation.

Barbara – Have fun with your iTrains! I love finding something that really motivates me!

Wendy – Glad to hear your Joey is so good for you! I love that. And yeah, you’re probably right on the next one, lol… Not Carole, but the idea of not running the entire distance before a race is pretty standard. The idea is that if you can run most of the miles (I know on a half it’s 10 or 11), then in the heat and excitement of the race you’ll be able to run the rest. Carole might have more logical reasoning so I’ll defer to her, but that’s my understanding. And absolutely if you can run 3 miles outside, you’ll do fine on the 5k.

GS C&T is my weight workout today, followed by CTX Kickboxing, and the drills from KM and CK. Then I’m meeting a friend for lunch at, of all places, a pizza joint. It’s actually one of the better ones – very little to no cheese, and very thin crust (and it’s delicious!). My abs are STILL sore from ME Abs on Wednesday! Jeez! I’ll probably add some CTX abs to the mix as well.

Good morning cheetahs and happy Friday! Just crosstraining for me today. A good circuit workout....I'm thinking HSTA and then some time on the elliptical. Ill be working through the weekend :-(
and probably won't have much of a chance to check in.

Cathy- Be careful not to get too chilled on your run today :p

Judy- I didn't know your hip was still giving your problems ;( From what I understand, most hip injuries you need take off at least a week (from running) Until you are absolutely pain free. Fortunately there are many ways to crosstrain to keep your fitness level up.
Good luck!

Carole- So sorry to hear that your nephew has an incisional infection. They can be quite easy or difficult to deal with depending on what bug is involved. I wouldn't think he'd have to stay in bed long though following an I&D (surgery for the infection)
Your comments to Wendy on long distance training were interesting!
There are actually marathon training plans now that only call for running 3x per week! Although they are quite controversial. I think focusing more on crosstraining right now sounds like a good way to go for you.

Hi Barbara- great to hear from you! Have fun with your I-train
workout!

Wendy- I honestly feel you are quite capable of running 5 miles outside! Just pick a nice flat course...you can do it. It is important psychologically as well. When you get to your 5 k race
you'll just remember---I can run 5 miles, 3 is nothing! Like
Carole said, most marathon plans, like Hal Higdon's call for your longest run in training to be no more than 20. It does sound a little scary but it has been proven time and time again to work quite well.....just ask Sarah!

Christine- I think that is so wonderful that DD17 is "getting into Cathe" I wish I had started habits like that at her age! It helps to have a fit mom to motivate her! Sounds like you have a killer workout for today....enjoy your pizza, you'll deserve it:9

Hi Pamela, great to hear from you when you can make the time. Hope your DS feels better soon! Take care.

Okay, enough babbling, time to get busy and sweat some!

ShellyC

I'm back just quickly today cheetahs! I finally have a few minutes to breath, and the desire to do so now that it has cooled off some.

Cathy-You're right 77, a cold front! Whoohoo!

Judy-So sorry that you hip is still bothering you
:-( Clearly it's not the impact of running that bothers it! Nice hard workouts going on for you:)

Carole!-I've been reading all the updates on your nephew and keeping my fingers crossed for good news everyday. He has a long road ahead, but we all know how excellent you and your family are at "long roads";-) Okay, I'm dissolving into hugs for SuperCarole (warning--gushy response:p )

Barbara-Can you only do iTrain workouts on cardio equipment or do they work outdoors as well? They sound so cool, but I have no treadmill;(

Wendy-My goodness gracious! You're long run is already 5 miles! You are so amazing! High fives^^ Who cares if it's on the treadmill it's still 5 miles:7 Wow, you are lucky that Joey sleeps so well and did I hear next baby;-) }( I'll add to Christine's explanation that running that kind of distance, unless you are training for even longer distances, is very taxing on the body. So if you ran that far you'd need a long time to recover before you'd be able to do it again. So training for a marathon would take even longer and you'd increase the risk of injury.

Christine-You let a child that you love to GS Legs? Don't you care at all about her calves?}( That sounds like so much fun, I wish that I could get my mom to work out with me. Sounds like quite a workout on your plate today, I imagine your abs won't be the only thing that's sore:D

Jess-I don't know if I ever got the chance to get on and say what a great trip you had. I loved reading every detail:7 And I hope your leg is all better.

Hi to Barb, Shelly, Patricia, Laura (Happy Birthday!!!!), Laurie, Gayle, Elaine and all the other cheetahs.

On Tuesday DH and I packed everything in our apartment, in the middle of the most, most, most disgusting heat. UGH! Then, we'll move into the new house on the 12th. So excited! I did take the day off after packing everything (I ran a little over three miles that morning). But yesterday I did Imax 1 on an 8 inch step! I haven't been able to do that except once before, so I was very psyched:7
Yesterday was also my 5 year wedding anniversary so DH and I had a great afternoon of shopping for our new house and then out to dinner:7
Today will be an all body weight w/o and then pool, pool, pool with DH. We have a huge squirt-gun fight planned today as I just found my brother and my old Super Soakers at my parent's house}(
Have a great day.
Mattea

Hello Cheethas.
I feel so inspired reading all of your posts. Thanks again for letting me join you.
I have a 9 year old son here at home during the summer so I have only a short time to read and post.
I ran 5 3/4 miles Tues. In the rain! It was a treat until tropical type rain starting falling and my contact washed out of my eye but my running shoes are very clean now.
Wed. was Push Pull and yesterday did 3 miles. I warmed up for 1 mile and then did easy 1 min. fast 1 min and walk 1 min.8x and some abs from Cathes Ab hit.
Today after I take kids to the local pool I plan to do Boot Camp.
Off to help DS find his goggles.
Colleen

Thanks to the ladies who answered my question!:)

Well, time was against me in a big way this morning so I couldn't even get 3 miles in, let alone 5. :-( I considered nixxing the run all together for today but did not. I played with my speed since I couldn't do distance. I ran at my usual pace of 5.5 for the first 5 mins and upped the pace by .1 every 5 mins thereafter so for the last 5 mins I was at 6.0. I ran for 30 mins cause it's all the time I had and got in about 2.85 miles. Disappointing since I had my heart set on distance today but I'll have plenty of opportunities to try it in the coming days. :)

I picked up 2 new sports bras last night at Target. We were there escaping the heat from the power outage. They were only $13.00 a piece but very nice. They clasp and adjust like a regular bra for a better fit, are very comfy and supportive. I give them 2 thumbs ^! They are also made out of moisture wicking fabric which is always better than cotton.

Well I ended up going running outside instead and did about 2 miles. I haven't run outside since my trip last month. At first I felt like I couldn't catch my breath but after 5 minutes I was fine. Then I did the iSulpt a&b which is broken down into 4 parts. It was really good. I got a burn both my legs and abs. It was hard doing it without a video because you can't see how the workout is done and I think I will burn this onto a cd since it was kinda hard with headphones.

Mattea I think they do have a few iTread for outdoor running. I might try one and see how I like it.

Hey Cheetahs! No running for me today it's a rest day and my ankles are a bit tender. I was all about the upper body combining the upperbody premix of MM with the upperbody work of a BodyPump workout, got quite the tingle in my arms and LOVING IT!}( :7 I've got to drop my 17 y.o. daughter off at her friends house later and will stop by a local fair with my 11 y.o. Nice to have some time off to do something or nothing!:)

Judy, you're so smart to listen to your body. Nice to switch it up and give your hip a break, I'm sure the yoga will feel wonderful!

Carole, that's so unfortunate that an infection set in:-( Lots of prayers and healing white light to John! Enjoy your run :)

Barbara, sounds like a good busy day, have fun shopping!

Wendy, my Elizabeth was like Joey, such a good sleeper, she still is:p As a Babe she was good for 12 hours through the night and a 3 hour nap in the afternoon. Marley was a whole different story, a 45 minute nap was a long one for her! She's still my early bird Girl:D Faith was somewhere in the middle with her sleeping but the biggest pest to us (in the good way...of course;-) ) Chin up Hon, you did great on your run, speed work is so challenging! You could have bailed all together but that ain't your style!:D I could use some new sports bras, I have a couple that are getting pretty gnarley, I only wear them if I'm just doing weights, they give the illusion of support but that's all. The wicking fabrics make such a huge difference.

Christine, nice mish-mosh Girl!! You'll have earned a robust lunch!! Bon Apetite!

Shelly, hope you had a good sweat, sure does get the cobwebs out! I haven't done HSTA in ever so long, have 'fun' with ALL of those leg presses!!}( ;-)

Mattea, Awesome job on 8" IMAX!!! It's lovely to read your post, nice balance of hard work and fun play! Happy Anniversary:) I had your butterfinger concoction as a sweet after lunch, genius Girl, pure genius!!!

Colleen, you made me laugh with your running shoe cleaning method:7 Have a great time with DS at the pool!

Enjoy your Friday Cheetahs!

Take Care
Laurie :)

Hey Shelly - noticed there was a shooting in Phoenix - hope all is well with your friends and family. I thought of you...

Oh, sorry - just read the article - guess this is something that's been going on over time - but I'm glad they caught the guys (from the TV it looked like it just happened).

Judy :: sounds like you are being smart about your hip. Speedy healing.

Carole :: I read Fit or Fat years ago. I thought his advice was really sensible. Sorry about your nephew’s setback.

Wendy :: I agree w/ the others – if you can run it on the tread, you can do it outdoors. Don’t let the mental stuff get in your way!

Christine :: Wow, what a tough workout you tackled. As always, I’m in awe of what you ladies are doing on a daily basis. Enjoy your pizza!

Mattea :: congrats on the move – although it doesn’t sound like much fun in this heat. Happy Anniversary, too!

Colleen :: I have been away for awhile but am also a relative newcomer to the cheetahs thread. Welcome! I used to love getting caught in the rain on hot summer days. It happened a few months ago while I was wearing my iPod, though, so it makes me think I need to get a waterproof case. Sorry to hear about your lost contact!

Barbara :: sounds like you’ve gotten back into the flow of things quickly.

Hi to Laurie, Laura, ShellyC, Pamela, Jess, Thomasina and anyone else I might have missed.

Have a great night, everyone!
cathy
