Cheetah's Check in - Monday, 6/28

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD Morning, everybody:

It's a beautiful cool sunny morning here in Minnesota. The weather is about 60 degrees and the sun is just coming up. WONDERFUL!!! I've had my morning coffee (can you tell :p ) and am getting ready to go to work. I have an election training today - yippee x( - but, I'm leaving work and getting there early to get in a good hour walk before the training starts. That's what on tap for me today. I ran a great 4 miles yesterday, I was just flying and feeling great - until that last 1/2 mile again and I swear I lost off energy, but got through it and did some core work in the grass when I returned.

Have a great day everyone - keep on truckin'.

~Marcia~

I'm checkin' in while I have a chance this morning! I'm feeling sooo much better today- thank God for good meds!! ;-) Thanks for the well wishes!

Did a 5 mile run w/ my buddies & literally as soon as I stepped in the door came the downpour & hail!!! It's weird because it looked so nice out, just some patchy clouds! I'm glad we weren't out on the loop when it started! My nose was running sooo bad while running though- ewwww!

Then I did Winsor Pilates Ball workout- good stretch & abs.

Off to make breakfast soon, but everyone else is still asleep!!

Thomasina- I've missed your posts!! You just crack me up. And yes, I did read your username as Meatless Inca also!!! :p So I dragged myself outta bed the last 2 days even though I didn't want to!!

Marcia- good job on the run! Just curious, are you eating before you run??? If I don't eat something before running now I tend to lag towards the end too. Make sure you're eating something small, even a banana or piece of toast!!

Have a great day everyone, not sure when I'll be able to check in again w/ company here! But we'll be having fun! :)

Hugs,

RE: Cheetah's Check in - Wednesday, 6/28

Good morning cheetahs

Marcia...I'd like a cool day!! You did confuse me a bit with Monday the 28th...:)...a walk sounds like fun for you!!

Christine...I remember once going to the SF airport and leaving Redding at 106. When we got to SF it was 66 and yes I about froze my ass off!! We are about 4 hours apart. It has always been hot here but it seems to me the humidity is getting worse, or I am just getting old...:)..I have been to Sante Fe and I did run there in the summer, it was not humid at all...

Barb...good job squeezing in a workout in those busy times! I am not sure how I did that run today either...thanks I did enjoy being at that long endurance run last weekend, gives you a whole new perspective on distance running!

HELLO Tomasina!!! Geeze....you got lots going on. My prayers to your brother, I hope he is doing better and prayers for DH's surgery. Hope it gets scheduled soon. Yes in a way I was sorry for Pat too. This was her 3rd try at Western and I don't think she will try again. She is talking about more 50K's and 50 milers. The first part of the course had been cleared a bit but was still very technical which is probably why 30 runners missed the cutoff! In that heat it really had to be brutal for those runners. Yes, I know about Scott being vegan..:)...I understand his reasons for helping Brian up too, but I still think he should have known better. I know at Forest Hill (62 miles) Brian was in 4th and that is where Scott began pacing him. 38 miles for Scott is nothing and to get Brian in first he must have really pushed him. But they did train together so I imagine that was their plan. I'd be happy to ship the humidity your way...:)...I'd love some dry scorching stuff...I am definitely a chips and salsa addict. I was so happy to eat at El Torito when we were in Sac last sunday...YUM!!!! Will this one work? http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/shy11.gif[/img]

Pamela...so sorry about your DH's grandmother. My prayers to both of you and your families. Sounds like your crosstraining went good. I sure can relate to the hot and humid weather!!

I am doing CTX shoulders, bis and tris, abs from something and a 6 mile run..

Have a great day...:)

Hi Jess, we were posting at the same time. Glad you are feeling better! Good job on the 5 mile run in the weird weather...enjoy your company...:)

Hi Everyone,
I actually made it to the pool this early a.m. to get the swim from Monday in today. We are down to one car because of a broken starter, so I had to get the car back home before 8 a.m. It was cool out, but actually fun to get in the water. Did a little of PUB & PLB before I left and will finish the weight work later (fingers crossed!)

Jess -- glad you're feeling better. Good timing with the rain and hail.

Pamela -- I'm sorry about DH's grandmother. It's sad. I'll be sending prayers to your family and hope that things go as well as they can.

Marcia -- great news about your run yesterday. What a good feeling. I'm with Jess, though, whenever I have a bad last few miles, I usually can trace it back to being a little short on carbs somewhere in the past 24 hours or on water! Core in the grass? You go Minnesota girl! get those workouts in before the school board makes you a slave for the day!

Carole -- Your big race day is coming up. How are you feeling about it? Are you switching to lighter weights, e.g. CTX in preparation for race day? I find the CTX weights really exhausting, but they are great workouts. Next week I'm breaking out Chest & Triceps in P90x. This week it's Core Synergistics only and happily, a break from ab ripper.

Hi to everyone checking in later: Karen (I'm still sending a stockpile of good vibes for your double-header doc visit tomorrow!), Elaine, Gayle, Thomasina, Cathy,
Wendy (are you back soon?),
Christine (my Aussie DH was leaping out the door this a.m., no time to talk, things to do, frolick, bounce, frolick),
Laura (how's the humidity?),
Mattea (which veggie did you end up picking?),
Judy (how are you?)

And to anyone else I am forgetting, Have a Great Day!
Barb
:) :) :)

Thanks Carole - I can't believe I thought it was Monday today - UGH......that's not good. ;-)

Jess - I didn't eat anything before I went and I ran later in the afternoon, so that could very well be the reason that I was losing momentum towards the end. I will make sure to eat something tomorrow before running and see if that makes a difference, thanks!

Barb - I know it, the school board needs to give me a break - UGH!!! :) But, I tell ya, doing planks in the green grass was not bad at all, I had the music crankin' in my ears and I felt like staying there forever :p just kidding!

Have a great day everyone!

Marcia.

Good morning Cheetahs,

Thanks Carole. I hope you enjoy your run and your strength training. My DH will probably be flying down there in the next couple of days, but the funeral probably won't be until next Wednesday. I know she was 86, but she's always been so healthy and vibrant that we thought she was just feeling a little under the weather. She walked everywhere, did everything for herself, and she was fiercely independent, so when she agreed to let my fil hire someone to help her out while he was visiting here this time he knew she wasn't feeling well. (Since my fil's retirement he's been spending most of his time in Trinidad with his mom -- ~3 months there, ~1 month here more or less. He just came back here at the beginning of June.) My bil is having a hard time because she had been asking to come for a visit for years, and just recently she said to him, "do I have to be in a box for you to come see me?" He had been avoiding the visit because he's basically eating himself into the grave, and he didn't want her to see. Now he's on dialysis 3x per weeks in addition to the diabetes, and he was admitted to the hospital yesterday because of heart irregularities. He's apparently on the verge of having a stroke and the frustrating thing is he's doing this to himself. He has a wife and two young kids, and his health has been steadily declining because he weighs over 400 pounds. I love my bil, but I'm so angry with him. We hate watching him kill himself, but nothing seems to reach him.

Sorry for the diatribe. :+ I don't know where all that came from.

Marcia, sounds like you're doing great! Enjoy your walk today.

Jess, so your entire run was in heavy rain and you kept right on going? I admire your dedication.

Hi Thomasina, my thoughts and prayers are with you brother and your DH. It was great catching up with you.

Hi Barb,Mattea, Christine, Elaine, Karen, and all Cheetahs who check in later!

This morning I got off to an early start and ran 3 miles. I know I need to do some type of weight work, but we'll see. Today is the tenth anniversary of my little brother's death, and I'm just not in the mood. This entire month has been difficult, and I've really not been in control of my eating. I'm trying to keep it all together, and for the most part I'm maintaining, but no new gains (other than weight ;)) have been made this month. Wait, that's not true. Monday was my first 9 miler, and now 5mph or a 12min/mile pace barely gets my heart rate into the training zone whereas it used to get me near my anaerobic threshold.

Sorry for the book! I guess I just needed to vent. Thank you everyone.

Enjoy the day!
Pamela

Thanks Barb (I think we were posting at the same time.). Glad you were able to get in a swim -- that actually sounds like a good idea. I'm crossing my fingers too so you get in the rest of what you have planned. :)

Pamela -- the situation with your BIL sounds so frustrating and my heart goes out to you for the month-long anniversary of your little brother.
Good for you that you got that early a.m. run in and it's a milestone that your previous anaerobic pace is now too easy. You are getting more fit.

I have trouble, too, figuring out what weight work to do. Hmm, when I can't decide, sometimes I do the weight work on SJP, just to get it started. Do you have that DVD?

Also, I like MM in that way. You could bust out Core Synergistics?????}(

Do whatever makes you feel good today. Take care of yourself.:)
Barb

Hello! I've been busy so haven't had alot of extra time to check in here. Let's see.......My workouts are on track with not too much variation from my schedule. Although, this week I switched the Gym Styles for Muscle Max so that I was able to hit everything within the alloted time. There will be a bump up in long run miles to 15 this weekend then we are off for vacation.

Carole, I did check in on your runner the other day. Sorry she didn't make it! Will she try again next year?

Sounds like everyone else is doing good. Just 2 1/2 weeks until the Sonoma half. Are Amy, Thomasina and Christine still in (Chris, I know you said you plan on the 10K, are you signed up for that)?

Silly me!! I posted before I read.... Carole, you already answered my question but I've got another for you. When is your 50K? I do know that it is what caused you not to sign up for the Sonoma 1/2.....

Gotta go back to yesterday's thread because I see that Thomasina popped her head in!!

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Marcia-So glad you got our there and ran like the wind! Your dedication is really inspiring:)

Carole-Now we have RAIN and humidity!x( Last night our county, and many of the surrounding ones, were in a state of emergency over quite severe flooding. DH and I live way up hill (bad for running, good for floods;-) ) so no worries and the sun is actually out today! Do now the air is full of partially evaporating water. This morning's run was, well, you know, very, very wet. Love the sound of the portobello sandwich, I love mushrooms (I eat them like apples, lol!)
Since you and Barb asked I got: Cooking the Whole Foods Way, The Bread Bible, The Modern Vegetarian Kitchen, A Passion for Vegetables, Living Cuisine, and The New Vegan Cookbook. I'll let you know if I come across anything potentially fantastic!

Barb-I think you could definitely use HSTA and HSC as full body workouts. Just be sure to go as heavy as you can and maybe slow down some of the reps or even cut out a few reps in order to up the weights. I would suggest subbing some weighted rear lunges for a few of the leg presses in HSTA though. I LOVE brussels sprouts (especially roasted!) and the vegan whipped cream has been such a treat! Love it on pureed frozen fruit as well:9 Barb, I actually own vegetable heaven and I'm with you on the complexity, lol. I like to look through the book for flavor ideas, but I rarely make a recipe from it. Now, golden beets, I've never had golden beets! I love beets!

Jess-Glad you mangaged some Napmax, lol! I am officially addicted to hummus and veggies. I also use it on sandwiches or wraps and even as salad dressing thinned out with a little white wine vinegar. My current favorite is the Calamata Olive. So glad to hear you're on the mend and enjoying your company!

Thomasina!-Again, well wishes for your whole family and the state of BUSY that you seem to living in! Prayers for your DB and your DH, my dad was on the couch for days after his first hernia surgery, but the second one was almost a breeze for him and he recovered super quick. The first time he was totally freaked out in pre-op and the second time he was relaxed, that was really the only difference, so see if you can get DH to do some deep breathing or something pre-op:+ I'm so excited about the book and I'll let you know as soon as I get it! I'm very grateful:7 I know what you mean about the fresh stuff! Luckily we have some great stores around here with a lot of local produce and several farmer's markets. My newest love is swiss chard everything and fresh rosemary. I'm thinking maybe a WW Foccacia tonight with a light salad:9

Pamela-Stretchmax is an acceptable substitute so the Yoga Police will let you off with a warning to seriously think about what you've done (or haven't done in this case, lol!) Don't be afraid of LL, yeah it hurts, but what Cathe vid doesn't? Isn't that why we love her? Just start out with a lighter db and work your way up.

Elaine-Great to see you around cheetah! Sounds like you are rock solid as usual!

Karen-We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you at the doctors' tomorrow! I can't believe how sore I am from Slow and Heavy! And how hungry I was yesterday, real hunger, not just the munchies. I woke up twice in the middle of night, ravenous--chugged water, ate some snow peas and then a mushroom the second time, lol. How are you feeling with S&H and how are you using them?

Today was a hot, humid, hilly 6 miles and then the ab work from S&H Bi's and Tri's. I was supposed to give blood today, but with the state of emergency and flooding the drive was cancelled so now I'm having fun with cookbooks!
Mattea

Good morning all!

Marcia - you confused me a bit, too - I had to double check the date. Don't make my Wednesday a Monday!!! ;-) Sounds like beautiful weather there in Minnesota!

Carole - you definitely have to visit the Bay Area in the fall - you and my DH can watch football, I'll serve chips and salsa and before hand we'll take a nice run and do some Tony... :)

Jess - glad you made it in before the hail! OUCH!

Barb - your DH IS an Aussie. My Aussie's paw was hurt on the long hike, so he's a little more subdued, but this morning he was licking and poking me every chance he got. Nothing like doing ab work and having a big furry butt in your face...

Pamela - I'm sorry to hear about your little brother. I know it happened 10 years ago, but memories do stay very fresh. And to have that on top of your DH's grandmother's death and the issues with your BIL - I'll be thinking of you. Don't stress about the eating. When you're ready it will come back and the weight will come off. {{{HUGS}}} YOu are going through a lot right now. Try a little kickboxing. It always helps me to get through heavy emotional times.

Elaine - We need to set a time and place to meet on Saturday to get our packets!!

Mattea - hope the weather settles for you! I've been hearing about your weather out here in California!!

I had a productive morning, did RS challenge (2x), SB Challenge, Ab Ripper X, and P90X Shoulders and Arms. Then I got a really wild hair and went out and ran 3 miles. I think I can actually sit on my chair for a while! LOL... Thinking of dragging DH to Big Basin this weekend for a 10 mile trail run (well, we'll run half of it, walk the rest). It's not steep, but it's gorgeous! Thinking of all of you lovely ladies!!!

Hi, Everyone. Like I said this wek it has been almost impossible for me to get on the computer. Tomorrow is the big D. Doctor's AHHHH!!!

Mattea- This week I'm using slow and heavy for three days and alternating with Imax and runs. I am always super hungry with slow and heavy unlike any of Cathe's other workouts. Even gymstyle or pymarids does not spike my appetite but slow and heavy always does. I try and plan for even a 7th meal when using s&h but sometimes i just make my meals a tad larger.

Happy Running
karen

Christine--sometimes my life feels like trying to do an ab work out and finding a big furry butt in my face... LOL:+

Mattea- thanks for the tips on HSTA or HSC. I'm going to try to do one of them on Friday. I would not have thought about subbing the lunges for step ups, so thanks for the suggestion. You are really good about eating vegetables. It is admirable that in the middle of the night, when hungry, you ate mushrooms and snap or snow peas!

Your cookbooks sound interesting. Keep us posted if you find some good recipes. Funny that you have the Mollie Katzen cookbook + the dread factor. She has a new one called Eat More, Weigh Less and a few recipes in there look like they are toned down versions of ones in Vegetable Heaven. There is one in Vegetable Heaven that is easy-ish, something like after-work Bulgur that I like. It's like a cold bulgur salad that isn't tabouli. I like the cookbook Vegan with a Vengeance, too and I'm writing down the names of the ones you checked out.

Elaine--Hi! I'm happy your training is going along so smoothly. I looked at your plan this week and saw you had CTX scheduled, but you are subbing gymstyles. Good luck on the 15 mile run on Sunday? and then have fun on vacation. I'm envious of all the fun the 4 of you are going to have in Sonoma.

Pamela-thanks for the finger-crossing. I got to finish the standing portion of PLB and just do back on PUB and I'll have to do floorwork and the Shoulders, Bis & tris tomorrow. Swimming is definitely a gentle, good X-training workout. The hardest part is the hassle factor of changing clothes, wearing a cap, getting in the water. It's fun from there and I feel really good afterwards!

Have a great rest of the day!
Barb
