Cheetah Check-In Tuesday July 25

Fit_mommy

Cathlete
G'morning Cheetahs!:)

I'm personally not feeling like much of a cheetah lately. :-(

I am going to the gym today and will probably hop on the TM and see what happens. If my knee bothers me I will do something else. It was okay last night. Felt a bit funny but nothing bad. I came home and iced it for a few minutes and I am totally fine this morning so we'll see.

I am looking forward to Thursday!}( Funny, how I fought buying shoes and now it's all I can think about! LOL :p

I have some nice DOMS in my glutes this morning thanks to Meaner Legs yesterday.}(

Hope everyone has a great day!:)

Aw Wendy-
We all have those days. That is why coming to the check-in is helpful.

Perhaps if you ran last night with your class you should not run again this morning. (It is just a suggestion.) Also you may get some benefit by strenghtening the muscles around your knees- quads area. Trying to keep muscle strength even on inner and outer quad area will help your knee to align straighter and not wear excessively in one area.

Today I got up a bit earlier and did PLB stability ball legs and ran 4.5 VERY hilly miles. The run took longer, but it was much more hill filled than anything I have been running, except yesterday. I am going to have to incorporate some more canal side runs ( flatter) in between these hilly runs.

What is everyone up to today? I will try to check back in later.

Hi Judy.

I am trying to do more leg work since my knee started acting up. I know I got my quads good yesterday with LL!}( I admit I have been lazy about working legs prior to this. :p I really prefer u/b to l/b when it comes to weight training...

Sounds like a challenging run! Good for you! The 5k I am running apparently has 2 big hills in it...IN THE BEGINNING! I am quite scared! LOL

Have a good day!

Good Morning, I'm off to do PUB this morning. I am at Queen's University for the day massaging cyclists at the half way point between Toronto and Montreal. The ride is for HIV/AIDS, I'm sure the cyclists will be ready for a good rub down! Let's hope the temperatures stay down for them and that the rains don't come. Running clinic is tonight, I'm not sure what the topic is but afterwards we'll go for a group run.

Wendy, hope that temperamental knee stays quiet today, don't push it too hard. Savour the DOMS! }(

Judy, nice job on the hills! I've been avoiding them but got so much encouragement here. My hill training is on Wednesday, I'll try not to dread it, maybe even learn to love it (a little;-) ).

Carole, your nephew is in my thoughts and prayers.

Enjoy your day Ladies, talk to you later.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Hey Laurie! Have fun at your clinic tonight! Don't worry about dreading hills...I'm right there with ya! LOL

Carole...My thoughts and prayers are with your nephew and all involved. I am sorry I didn't see that in your post sooner...I was only skimming and not really reading everything. Shame on me. :-(

Good morning cheetahs

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for my nephew...I know they help...I will update after personals.

Pamela...5 lbs isn't too bad. I bet you will get right back on track.

Mattea...a mountain lion??? Not fun...hope you enjoyed Mr YP!

Barb...good workout. If I go heavier in CTX I usually take more breaks between sets and reps.

Elaine...good job on your 17 miler. Then PLB the next day...wow...:)

Wendy...I never quite get it when stores are crowded on Monday!! It is my day off and people should be at work...maybe you'll have better luck when you visit your Mom? Definitely listen to your knee today...

Jess...I hope you have an awesome trip in Cal.

Judy...you seem to be hitting those hills hard!...maybe a flat run in between would be good. How has your hip been holding up?

Laurie...PUB should get you ready to massage those cyclists!! Enjoy your group run tonight..:)

I ended up doing a SJP/SB premix inbetween hospital visits yesterday. I am planning on a 5 mile run today and some legwork...

The surgeon for my nephew is being flown in from the Coast either late last night or this morning. They will hopefully get to the surgery today. The damage is in his Thoracic Vertebrae, T10,11 and 12. As far as I understand T11 is shattered and T10 and T12 are not aligned in any way and his spinal cord is crushed. At this point it is not looking good. Right after he landed from the crash he could not feel his legs. The surgeon will try to rebuild T11 and straighten the others so the spinal cord will be straight. I got to see him yesterday and even though he is 20 he just looked so small in that bed. He seems to be in good spirits and tons of his friends were there off and on yesterday. How quickly your life can change is what amazes me...I'll be going to the hospital before I go to work today. I'll let you know when I can how this surgery goes as it will be a long one...thaks again for your prayers...:)

Hi there, I'm in the middle of work nights and it's been extremely busy....wasn't planning on posting but I saw Carole's and I had to respond.
Hi Carole- Big cyber hugs for you and my prayers are with your nephew!
You're family and you sound all wonderfully supportive which is what he certainly needs now. I must admit it doesn't sound very likely at all that he will regain use of his legs. Fortunately the injury is down far enough that he should retain full use of his upper body.
I've worked in trauma ICU's with spinal injury patients alot and family support means EVERYTHING. I hope you keep us posted and use us to vent feelings, frustrations, whatever.

Much love to our SuperCarole,
ShellyC

Thanks so much Shelly...:)...He does have a strong support system with family and friends and I know that is so important right now. I will keep you all updated. I know this is a great area to vent...:)

Good morning. My workout today will be GS Chest and Tris and some speedwork at the track tonight.

Carole, I'm so, so sorry to hear about your nephew's prognosis. That's very sad!! I also have a 20 year old nephew who rides a Harley and hate to imagine him in that position. I am at least glad to hear that Shelley said that the injury is low enough that he'll likely have full upper body use. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with all of you.....

Wendy, If there are going to be hills on a race course I prefer them at the start. Your race is just over a month away!! Man, it's coming fast!

Mattea, You must have missed it yesterday where I said that I thought I might have missed that you moved. Did you? Where to, if so? I've never had a blister problem but the second toe in from the outside of my right foot is permanently some shade of purple. Right now with the higher miles it's darker than normal. Last year I lost the nail on my left foot big toe. Good thing is, neither of them hurt at all so you've got no worries and probably won't be needing morphine! It's just a little embarassing when I get a pedicure. I always find myself explaining that my feet are so banged up from running.

Laurie, Are you in a training group for your race like Wendy is? It's a 1/2 marathon your training for, right? I wish they had stuff like that around here. I'm a member of a local running club but it's in the next town up the freeway and the times they get together to run doesn't fit in well with my schedule.....

Good morning to everyone else!

Good Afternoon Cheetahs!

Wendy-Barb will back me up on this, but you might try some floorwork (or sliding, which just sounds like fun) to help with hitting all the muscles around the knees w/o impact or too heavy of a strain.

Judy-I wish I had somewhere flat to turn to! LOL:) You're lucky to have the canal to run along, DH and I are moving to Hornell b/c of his job, to the top of an even bigger hill than we live on now, if you can believe it;-)

Laurie-What a great cause to lend you hands to! Hope you learn something interesting tonight:)

Carole- Oh Carole, please keep us updated. I've been thinking about your nephew and have kept him in my prayers. My young cousin was in a similar accident a few months ago and he crushed one of his legs pretty badly. He had several sugeries and now has quite a lot of metal in that leg for the rest of his life. But, he has had an amazing healing progress and I can only hope the same for you nephew. Yes, running into the mountain lion scares me much more than that bear DH and I saw last summer. Yeah, I ran with my pepper spray this morning for sure! Luckily all I had to avoid was one small snake:eek:

Elaine-AHHHH! Seriously, I have a thing about losing nails, please everyone, just stop telling me about losing nails:eek: :) Maybe I won't need morphine, but valium? I keep losing the tips of my second toes after they blister, but it's weird b/c they blister under the calluses? I didn't miss it, but I was going to respond to your today:7 DH and I are moving to Hornell because he has taken a job in a school district near to there and I am done with my coursework so I can finish my doctorate at a distance now. It will be a big change for us, but my aunt actually works in Hornell several days a week and so I'm hoping to get some visits from her:7

Barb-I so ran with pepper spray today:) I have to admit I'm scared of the mountain lion, especially after my uncle (who used to be a forest ranger) scared me with some stories last night! I think you could probably just use a stick to fend off your friendly goat:p I also think CTX upper body moves fast, but I did MIS this morning and man that goes even faster!

Today was a 30 min. hilly run with some strides on the end plus MIS. Which is just harder and longer than I remember. Man the pace is so fast! And Cathe's upper body endurance is crazy! 35 lbs. for crazy eights? No...way...
Thanks to everyone for the congrats on DH's job and the sympathy for the move. Moving DOMS always seem to get you in weird places, lol! Can't wait for those!
Hi to all my other cheetahs!
Shelly, Gayle, Laura, Pamela, Amy, Marcia, Yadi, Sarah, Thomasina, Christine, Karen, and Karin :7

Good Afternoon Cheetah Women!:)

Well,I ended up taking an idea that was brought up in another thread for today's work out. I did the IClimb work out on the treadmill. I changed the incline when the instructor has you change the resistance and I just played with my speed according to the music and how I felt. It was a great work out! It was 40 mins and I ended up going 2.76 miles. I kicked it up to a run 3 times I think but only for about 5 mins a piece. I climbed some KILLER hills! It was a great work out and something I need to do more often to get myself better prepared for the hills in the 5k!

So I had Ripped Slim and Lean in my mailbox when I got home from the gym today! I just started previewing it. I'll betcha' can't guess what weight work out I'll be doin' tomorrow!:p

Carole, That's such ashame about your nephew. With a strong support system to keep his spririts up, he'll have the best chance of whatever recovery is possible for him. I have no medical experience but I would say not to ever give up complete hope that he'll walk again because you just never know!

ShellyC, How long are you workin' nights for?

Elaine, I can see how having them at the start is better as you have the most energy at that point BUT if you push too hard on them then you've just drained yourself and killed the rest of the race. I have to keep reminding myself of that so that I don't make that mistake!

Hi Cheetah gals,

Early this morning before work I did Kickmax and after work I will run on the treadmill for 30 minutes.

Wendy, do tell us how you like Slim & Lean. I caved and ordered it and Ripped to the Core from DDD. You guys are such enablers.

Everyone has such great workouts that I don't feel like I should be a Cheetah, I'm no where near the level you all are. Maybe I should post in the Daily Check-in post, but anyways, you ladies inspire me.

Have a great day cheetahs.

Yadi-
Don't you dare leave us for the daily check-in! You're OUR cheetah now}( and we love you so don't ever feel like your workouts aren't as advanced as ours. You'll get there someday, okay, well maybe not "there" I mean have you seen how far Carole runs? But, then she isn't SuperCarole for nothing:)
Mattea

Hi Lady Runners on Two Legs coming to the Runners Check in.....

only two minutes to do my typing today.

Yadi -- don't rank yourself. You are here. You are running. You give support. You get support. Part of the mental thing of running for me is/was/still realizing that there really is room for everyone....

Carole -- your nephew is in my prayers. This doesn't sound good, but having it be the best it can be is important.

Wendy -- How you feel today "un cheetah like" is how I feel everytime I do Meaner Legs....but that's just me. I'm with Mattea -- do some floorwork tomorrow or sometime before your next run to get at those smaller muscles that like to be paid attention to -- just my 2 cents here... which may be all it's worth

More later or tomorrow.....

Barb:) :) :)
(Oh I forgot: I ran 4 miles this morning and did floorwork from L & G and GSL -- then it's a busy, busy day...)

Mattea and Barb...So what you gals are sayin' is that I should do some floor work, huh? :p GS Legs floorwork it is then! }(

Carole, God Bless your family at this time. It's amazing that your nephew is in good spirits, the circle of love forming around him with family and friends will hold him up through this difficult time. Much love and prayers to you, your family and all of the health care professionals involved in his care.

Elaine, yes I am training for a 1/2 with a group. The clinics are through a Canadian chain of stores called 'Running Room'. Our trainers are experienced runners of all ages, quite a diverse and inspiring group. No speed training for us for a few weeks yet, hope all went well at the track.

Mattea, I haven't done MIS in ages, nice job. Moving sure does finds all those muscles we forgot we had! I have to ask, what does it mean to 'run with some strides'?.....I have soooo much to learn,.....I LOVE IT!!!

Wendy, ^^^^^5's on taking on such a challenge! I'm hill training tomorrow, let me know how you're feeling after all of your climbing:)

Yadi, you CHEETAH you, don't go anywhere, you are right where you belong!!! I haven't done KickMax in a while, the blasts really are a BLAST! Enjoy your run.

Barb, you really put your legs through their paces today!!

Massaging riders for the 'Friends for Life Rally' was AWESOME! They ride from Toronto to Montreal over 5 days (It's a 6+ hour car drive) today is day 3. Yesterday they rode about 125k, this morning was 50k. They were soooo ready for massage, there were 17 therapists and it was wonderful watching everyone work and getting to know some new people. The riders and support were so grateful that we were there but I felt so grateful to them for giving of themselves for such a great cause. The 225 riders have raised over $600 000.00 for AIDS this year, blows my mind and warms my heart! I'm off now to get ready to run, I think it's 4k tonight and I'm PUMPED!!!:7

Have a wonderful evening Cheetahs!

Take Care
Laurie:)

Good evening Cheetah.

Carole I am so sorry about your nephew. He will be in my prayers. Please keep us updated. Good for you for getting in your workout. I know it can help with the stress you must be going through.

Yadi it sounds to me that your going to have a great workout. How do you like Kickmax? Do you have KPC?

Judy is this a new route that is by your new home? How is it going with settling in?

Wendy where is the 5K that you are training for?

Hi to all the other cheetah.

Today I did a 20 minute iTread jogging follow by adding on another 10 minutes from itread 40 minutes but doing it at a walking pace up to 4.6 which I think is tough walking at that pace. I also went to my job to visit since I am off for the summer and added just 10 minutes of the elliptical. Not much but I was waiting for the kids to come back from swimming so I can see them.

Barbara--sounds like you got a good workout in today and that you were flexible about it as well -- adding the elliptical in there.

Laurie- your training group sounds very fun. The massage event sounds like it was really rewarding. PUB is a hard tape. It's on my list to try the pasta recipe tomorrow!

Mattea--Tough workout today. I agree with your thoughts on MIS. I think it's hard to go that fast with weights -- for me at least. But MIS was my first Cathe strength tape. Now I tend to avoid it and go for the newer ones. I am lucky to just have a goat to deal with and not a mountain lion. But in the spirit of yin-yang, instead of the mountain lion, I talked to my MIL yesterday. It didn't go well for me. I couldn't curtsy, my friend.....it will take me a few days to deal. The gist of the conversation was that she is great and that because of her greatness, my kids are great-- in spite of me. ugh.....felt bad.x( Pepper spray, maybe?

Judy-- It sounds like you had fun with the with the hill run and the PLB stability ball work, I'm curious if you will feel good in the hip tomorrow? I really like combining the floor work with running on the same day. I feel like it helps me not have stiffness the next day.

Elaine--how did the speedwork go at the track?

Carole -- It's good you could get some exercise in amidst all the worry about your nephew and going to the hospital. So sad. I am sending my good thoughts and prayers your way.

Ooops-ran out of time now.
have a great rest of the night!
-barb

:) :) :)

Wendy-Yes, you are officially sent to your room with a stability ball and the band! LOL!

Laurie-What an amazing time you had today! I can't imagine riding that far, but a massage must help:7 Strides are kind of like sprinting intervals, but instead of in the middle of a run they are sprints at the end of a run (at least I always do them at the end). They help to increase speed, upper threshold aerobic capacity, and flush some lactic acid out of the legs. I usually do at least 4 at the end of all runs (except long runs and intervals-I usually do 50 walking lunges after those). You walk for about 30-1 min. after you run to cool down, then sprint for 20-30 seconds and then run very slowly (or walk) for double that time. So do that as many times as you like. Kind of fun because I love to sprint, but not for very long:p

Barb-Oh dear, sweet Barb, well, you've been doing some hard workouts lately and the knees can only take so much...;-) Did it go something like this in reverse? She's pretty terrible, but you are really great, and so your kids are great in spite of her? }( Too bad there isn't floorwork to help you recover from you MIL. I'll be happy to lend you my pepper spray as tomorrow I'm working out all indoors:7
