Good morning cheetahs

Barb...thanks...I am always a bit nervous before runs like this. The distance can be so challenging. Since you swim have you ever considered a mini triathlon?

Mattea...I thought you did have the Vegan Planet...the portobello fajitas are also great, ask Elaine!...and I was kidding about back to back races...:)..I do hope you and your DH are safe from the flooding!!

Christine...wow, then I might need my thermals and down parka to watch Football with your DH! Double your salary!...Way to go!!!

Elaine...7 hours is a 13:17 pace. The cutoff time is 7.5 hours so I do hope I make it...:)...it differs a bit from marathon training as I did more 20 milers that in marathon training and my total weekly miles are just a bit higher. In trail runs they have these awesome aid stations (every 5-7 miles in this 50K). I carry one bottle of Accelaerade and a pack with another bottle with just water in it. At the aid stations I usually have those refilled with ice!! I snack on potatoes and jelly bellies. Hope your mile repeats with DH went well yesterday!!

Karin..looks like alot of tough cardio for the 9 days. I am glad you are putting in a rest day!

Karen..I agree with Christine...you are and always will be a cheetah!! I am happy your mammogram went so well. As for the knee 4-6 weeks really is not that bad. I had trouble with my achilles one time that lasted about a year! Listen to your Doc and take it easy and I bet you will come back STRONG!!

Thomasina...screwball? http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/faint.gif[/img]...you are too funny...I did have to look at those initials a few times to figure them out!! I think my training went well, but I just wish I would have gotten in a few 20 plus runs....I agree with you on the SJP step part....it isn't a tough cardio.

I got up about 4:30 this morning. Wanted to run before it got too hot. I ended up with a bit of a shin splint on my right leg...bizarre as I have been running in new shoes, so maybe I am getting lazy on the downhills and slapping my toes down...I did ice last night and it is much better. I picked up a 4 pack of Jania Saffell workouts yesterday for $9.99 at Ross. I don;t feel her kickbox is as tough as cathe but they are fun..:)..I'll be doing a 6 or 7 mile run this morning and some abs. Maybe shoulders if I have time...(my favorite part to work!)...

Have a great day...:)

Good morning everyone - I'm still feeling a bit under the weather and not much energy at all. I'm sick to my stomach, though, thinking I may not get my run in x( I'm hoping to at least start and see how far I go. Is that smart or should I wait until my sinus pain and coughing, etc. goes away??? I did weight work (believe it or not) yesterday and that felt great, I was sweating buckets. Maybe I'll do something low impact so that I get my workout in. What do you all think? How about an elliptical wokrout instead, that might do the trick. I just hate to get too far off course with my running when I was doing so good. :)

Thanks, talk more later.

Marcia.

Hello cheetahs!!

I'm here again!! Company is gone & we had so much fun w/ them. The girls were soooo sad to see their friends (they just call them their cousins) go... We were so busy- took them hiking & canoeing on Wed & then went to a neat sprinkler park for the kids to play in y'day. And got in lots of jumping on the trampoline.

I took y'day as a *rest* day, it felt wonderful as everyone slept in past 8!!! Man did I feel lazy after that but I needed it. Still getting over this sinus infection, but finally feeling better. My face bones aren't hurting so much anymore & sinuses seem to be draining, so that's good news!!

I slept in again this morning, my dh is home so I'm going to run later. It's thundering now, but no rain (weird), so I'll head out in a bit for just a quick 3 mile run (that's all my training schedule calls for) & I'm going to try to fit in PUB later.

Well, have laundry & stuff to do around here to get things back in order!! Take care, sorry no time for personals now!

Hugs,

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Barb-Thanks for the info. on the slow cooker book, of course it's going to be in the 80's tomorrow, so hot food will probably not be on my mind. She doesn't have and ice cream maker book does she:)

Thomasina-Thanks for the head's up on Barb's post! And for the book. I did a fairly tough ladder interval run out of it this morning and came back one sweaty cheetah even w/o too many hills. And, I'm happy to help you make your workouts harder anytime}(

Karen-I posted to you yesterday after your update, but I got kicked of the internet while posting and even though I rewrote it and posted it, it disappeared!x( So what I said was congrats on the clean mammogram! That is such a blessing:7 And that cheetahs are not just about speed, but about spirit. And you have the right kind from the your whiskers to the tip of your tail! Besides, just think of the serious S&H damage you can do now that you have a mandatory break from running. I see bigger guns!

Christine , Carole, and Elaine-Thanks for the concern! We're dry, but we can't even get to my parents house now as the main highway is under water in several places. Running to CA is sounding better and better:p Especially if you are cooking dinner out of Vegan Planet:9

Carole-Sorry about the shin splints, but you've also had some pretty high mileage lately so take care of yourself! I also love to work shoulders, except overhead presses which burn, baby burn.

Marcia-Healing vibes coming right at ya! I hope you feel better later today, but if not I would say bag the run and go for a walk instead. Being outside and just enjoying moving will do wonders for you.

Wendy!!!! You're back!!!! Maybe you need a vacation from the vacation? Actually, you probably just need to get back into your routine so give yourself a few days. Also, I'm so proud of you for keeping up the running while on vacation, but, um, can we hear about the cruise!!

Jess-Sorry that the sinus infection is lingering, but I'm glad everyone had such a great time! I *want* to go to sprinkler park!!:7

Yesterday I upped my weights on pretty much everything in S&H Back, Shoulders, and Biceps (even Coremax #3-I used and 10# med. ball and a 12# db). I even went heavier than Cathe does on biceps! (my oh so slow to gain muscle biceps!). Today was a ladder interval run and soon DH and I will be making our first trip to the store since the flood. Took some pretty good flood pics y'day I'll try to put them on picture trail soon.
Have a great day!
Mattea

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Happy Friday to all my Cheetah Friends!!!

Wendy! HOW WAS THE CRUISE?!!!! Sounds like you did well working out - I'm impressed!

Carole - Nah - just bring a fleece. I'm in awe of you for the run you're going to do! I can't wait to hear all about it! Funny - aid stations every 5-7 miles. That's a long run for me. LOL. I think is fabulous that we have you for inspiration.

Marcia - Hope you're feeling better soon!!

I decided not to run today as I'm doing the 10 mile trail run/hike tomorrow. I'm very excited. So I did Core Max 1 (no planks - though, did those already this week), P90X Legs and Back, and Kenpo X. I know a lot of people don't like Kenpo, but every time I do it I'm reminded of my old Tae Kwon Do drills. I really enjoy it, and I get my HR up there. I'm feeling good.

Found out we're headed to Hawaii July 24th for 5 nights. I'm excited - never been to Hawaii before. We're going to Maui and staying at the Westin.

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Mattea -

Must have been posting at the same time! Great minds you know. ;-) Hope the flood waters go down soon! My dad lives in Maryland by Karen and he's telling me that the waters are okay, but with all the rain it's so humid it's not even funny! Here's to drying out - and I don't mean not drinking booze!

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Wendy - great to see you back and great to hear you kept yourself active on your vacation, GREAT JOB!!

I decided to take it easy today and try and get healed. I want to run so bad, but since I can't hardly breathe I'm going to take it easy. I'm not going to push myself like I did last year and ended up with heat stroke. Soo.............if I feel better by tonight I will go for an easy run, but if not I will rest up today and go for a 4 miler tomorrow and Sunday.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Marcia.

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Figured y'all could use a good laugh today. I just ordered a Belly Dancing tape - an instructional one. I've always wanted to learn to Belly Dance, so I figured now that I'll have the summer off and more time to play, I may as well try it...

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Christine-Yeah, first Carole and I and now the two of us! I seem to be in synch with California for some reason, lol! At least it's dry there. For now...;-) I think belly dancing sounds like a blast! Let me know how you like it and, more importantly, how it works:7

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

I'm back...I did weight work + abs so I feel better now. Still hope to run later in the day though. :)

The cruise was nice.

The food was EXCELLENT! I gained 3 pounds DESPITE the fact that I exercised!!! Dinner was freakin' SUPERB! A limited but completely different menu every night! EVERYTHING was wonderful and I had desert every single night!!!!:9 }( :9  }( :9 }( There were other options for dinner but we never took them cause we enjoyed the main dining room sooo much! We ate from the buffet for our other meals except for one of the last lunches...DH and I ate in the main dining room and AGAIN, I had desert!}( LOL The islands we hit were Puerto Rico, St Thomas and Tortola.

In Puerto Rico we shopped in the afternoon and spent an hour or so in Senor' Frogs(a bar)in the evening.

In St. Thomas it was a sight seeing/shopping/swimming excursion. We spent a couple of hours on a beach there and it was GORGEOUS! I made a friend...a tiny little fish apparently took a liking to me. It appears he was attracted to the bright colors in my bathing suit so he wouldn't leave my side! I would walk and he would follow! He either thought I was a coral reef or thought I was a decent replacement for one cause he was hanging out right up against me...not touching me but as close as he could get! I was hysterical laughing. I had made a friend! :7

In Tortola it was again, SHOPPING!:+ }( :+

On the ship we laid in the sun, played in the pool, indulged in cocktails of all kinds, saw some shows, hung out at many differnt bars available, gambled a bit, yadda yadda yadda.

I had a good time but I was with a crowd who liked to spend more "down time" then I prefer. We have different vacation personalities and I was the odd man out so it was tough at times cause I would get quite bored and restless. BLAH! :p

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Hi Cheetahs,

I'm temporarily resting today, might do weights, but feel kind of run down, slept in and am not sure if I just need a day off, am behind on sleep or a little under the weather. The rest feels good. I'm trying to get some stuff done around the house. DS is home tomorrow from camp and the gang will be reunited!

Wendy--your cruise pics are lovely. I really like the two formal shots. You look beautiful and svelte. It's hard to find the perfect fit with travel partners. Sounds like you did great, though! :)

Carole -- I don't blame you for being nervous about the race! It's along way and the conditions sound challenging. Thanks for the explanation of your weight work. Lightening up on the legs makes good sense. I don't think I would do any mini-triatholons in the near future, though. I like swimming, but I'm not fast. I really like it as a recovery workout, but I've learned a lot from watching my kids' swim workouts and have improved this and that on technique for me so I can get a slightly better workout. :)

Mattea-- no kidding about the hot weather and crockpots. But in the summer here, I end up using the crockpot because of being out of the house too long and liking the idea of knowing dinner is at least partially cooked while I'm gone. I am checking out the cookbooks you got, too and am glad to know that you like Modern Vegetarian Kitchen. I may have to get that one! I love the curried split pea soup in Vegan w/a Vengeance. Thanks for the tip on the new one coming out. I think she (Isa) is a riot! Glad you are safe in the floodzone! :)

Shelly--are you coming back soon? I'm thinking Wednesday is back to work for you? :)

Christine -- I've done part of Kenpo and like it, too. I like the stretches before and after. This Aussie thing is really working for me not getting impatient with my husband. There are so many little things that I find I can write off to being an Aussie seeing a squirel, rather than alternative, more negative interpretations of his roving attention span. It's a whole new view.... :)

Karen-- how are you feeling today after your visits to the doc? I really think you are lucky you caught this early and did not do any serious damage to your body. I agree with Carole that in the grand scheme of things 4-6 weeks is a blip in your running career. :)

Marcia -- good for you that you trying to listen to your body instead of blindly diving into a workout when you are feeling sick. Sometimes it's a hard call when you feel under the weather, whether the body will feel good doing a little something or if complete rest is in order. Sometimes I pick doing something for 10minutes, say an easy weight workout and/or easy cardido and then say after 10 minutes, was this the right decision or not? Are you drinking enough water after all the runs you've been doing? Are you eating enough quality food? :)

Elaine--I like it that you are the master of your training plan. Dump the CTX and bring on the GS! LOL. The 70-people celebration is like a family reunion. Long story....it will be fun once it happens and especially when it's over, I'll be glad I did it. But there are a lot of pickles to work through because of certain relatives "issues" and it's requiring really thinking things through in order to do the right thing...It causes some marital tension, because the lion's share of the work is mine (it's fair, really, because I have more time) but there's more "talking" I feel is necessary (typical girl thing) and some of the discussions have been annoying to put it mildly. It's really nice you and DH can run together. My DH had knee surgery and a back injury several years ago and is reluctant to do any running. How are your kids doing in the summer? How is the schedule you set up balancing keeping them busy vs. having enough down time working out so far?

Karin -- For me, I'd need more steady-state cardio in the rotation. I couldn't do PLB and LowMax the next day. So if it was me (which it's not! }( ) I'd do:
M: PLB
T: KPC or Cardio Kicks or Turbo Jam (If not running instead)
W: Viper which I think has upper & lower body? and an IMAX interval (so this is like a speed day for running)
Th: Stretch or Yoga or easy steady state cardio -- not upper body again because I'm dead after Viper
F: run
Sa: elliptical or maybe Supersets instead
-----
Sun: Supersets or maybe Elliptical instead
M: I don't know what's on Power max? but if it has power circuits for legs, I wouldn't do it the day before the race.
T: Race -- go girl go!!!
W. Boot camp ? or stretch
Th: Boot camp if you didn't do it Wed. or stretch

Thomasina-- I know what you mean about SJP. Sometimes I like to do the combo premix where you do the finished combos from SB and then the step sections of SJP. I like the hi-lo on SJP though, because I think some of that skipping/running-man stuff is really good conditioning for running! Hey, it's getting your Cheetah a$$ out of bed, not your lardy a$$!!!

Jess-glad you had fun with your friends and got some rest in. You can never go wrong erring on the side of getting a little extra rest. You must feel so good to have connected with your friends and see your kids happy! Getting the house in order and nesting after a visit is a good feeling!

Pamela--how's everything going with family stuff? I'm still sending good thoughts your way.

That's it for now Cheetahs. have a great rest of the day and weekend. I hope to check in Sat & Sun! Hi to everyone else checking in later and anyone I missed.

Barb
:) :) :)

Good afternoon Cheetahs,

Thanks everyone for all of your kind words, thoughts, and prayers. I really appreciate them all. I'm a little swamped right now so no personals, but hopefully I'll have more time later.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! :)

Take care,
Pamela

Wendy - SOUNDS HEAVENLY!!! I'm so jealous! I'm so happy you had a great time!

Barb - I'm so happy I could help with the DH. Now if he has a furry butt like my Aussie, I feel for you! :+ And enjoy your rest. If it feels that good, chances are you need it.

Pamela - hope your weekend is great as well. I'm still thinking about you!

Mattea - I'm excited. I'll sashay around the garage (with the door firmly firmly shut). Or maybe in our bedroom - that might be a better thing - I can lock the door and the kids can't get in! I don't mind the kids seeing me lift or do step or whatever, but belly dancing??

I have a question for you P90X'ers. I'm almost done with my rotation. I have made tremendous gains. A year ago I could barely lift 5 pounds in an overhead press. Last few times with P90X I've been using 20 pound dumbells and managing 14 reps. I'm thrilled. And I'm not looking bulky, but it's obvious I work out. Anyway, I don't want to lose that. I'm thinking of doing a three week rotation with the Gym Series afterwards. Should I follow that with Slow and Heavy (I don't have that one, but I could get it)? Or should I simply alternate - like 3 weeks GS, 3 weeks P90X, 3 weeks PS, 3 week P90X - of course with recovery weeks in there - I find I really enjoy those weeks.

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Wendy's back!! Yeah!! Sounds like a great time & the pics look great!!! I love that black dress!! WTG on still fitting in some workouts too! I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things in no time!!

I'm one of those that gets bored w/ too much free time too, I need to be doing something!!

Hugs,

RE: Hello cheetahs!!

Barb ~ Your'e so right. I definitely needed the extra rest & it's helped me get over this sinus infection. I hate sinus infections, I'm very prone to them & get them a lot in the fall/ winter but not usually in the summer! Oh well, feeling more normal by today!!

I managed to do a 3.15 mile run w/ my family around 10 this morning. It was so fun. My dd's wanted to ride their bikes so they rode, and then my dh rode his bike pulling Allison in the bike trailer while I ran. It made it go by so fast & they all had fun too. (and they even climbed the hills fine!) I have such a wonderfully supportive dh! And I did do PUB plus the stability ball abs, I'm really feeling so much stronger! I did the 15 lb biceps w/out too much struggle today. Yeah!

Just chillin' out w/ my family tonight. We ran some errands & ate at Steak N Shake for dinner- yummers!

My friend Melissa & I are running w/ her team (she does team in training & she invited me to come along) tomorrow, I've gotta do 7 miles for my training (it's a step back week, next Sat will be 12!).

Ok, enough chatting from me. Have a good one!

Hugs,

Good Evening Everyone. Late posting again. Today was the last day of VBS but with the 4th on our tails we are still busy. My dh and I are taking the girls to Hershey Park Sunday. My workouts this week have been pretty much what I put down. Next week I will add in miminal running mabye once or twice at 3-4 miles only. Hope you all have a happy 4th.

Hey Karen!! We have VBS in July, so that will be busy for us too! I just wanted to say that I hope your knee/ IT band problems heal up quickly for you!!! Definitely take it easy on the running & keep up what you can do. I'm sure you'll enjoy doing S & H (still on my wish list!!).

Have a great weekend & 4th!!
