Check-In for week of Aug. 20-26th.

Dog days of summer

Hi everyone!

Hopefully this was my last week with Pure Strength as my DVD's are supposed to arrive today. DH is on notice he has p.m. dog duty!

Mon: Trot w/ dogs 25 min; PS legs (up to calves); PS BBA
Tue: Cycle 23 miles (fast & flat)
Wed: Spinning; PS CST; PS legs (calves, floor & abs)
Thu: Stott matwork; trot 30 min
Fri: BodyMax upperbody & abs
Sat: hike 10 miles w/ DH & dogs
Sun: cycle 16 (easy recovery ride)

Went on our 1st serious hike (needing 10 essentials) since we moved last winter. What chaos! We were out of practice getting our gear together & DH was missing some things. He's not the most organized guy. I earned a big heel blister which may cramp my style this week.

My Spinning instructor & her husband (who is one of Johnny G's trainers) are going to South Africa to do certification clinics. She's understandably quite excited.

Have a great week everyone!
Debra

I like it! I like it!

Kept woman is my fave. Now if everyone in the check-in could think of a good come back I'd be all set!

RE: Hi Gretchen

You are right, it was not my first and I did it 1:24 which is 8 minutes slower than 2 years ago (the event was cancelled last year and that was fine because I had a pulled hamstring) but everyone's time was slower this year because of a cross wind on the bike part. Some excuse huh. I wish I had a road bike but I have a Clydesdale of a mountain bike compared to the racers' road bikes. Oh well.

Thanks for the congrats.

RE: House Renovations

Hi Debra and thanks.

Actually, my workouts suffered a bit because of getting so much into my house stuff, however, I did forget to eat as much as I usually wolf down and lost a few pounds and my jeans are now a bit looser. Gotta love that!

And, about the local men, I beat quite a few of them, some of whom I work with, like my boss who is very competitive. :) What feels really good is beating the 20 something local boys. As Cleda would say, WAHOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hi Terri

I just closed on my new old house today and actually had some money left over...and thought...I will buy a good pair of running shoes and another tape from Cathe...and thought of the slow and heavy series...since I think I could get addicted to weight lifting quite easily...so am glad to hear that you like it so much. I have the MIS but thought it would be nice to have these others just for a change of pace. I seem to be in this mindset that I would like to get very very strong...so heck...why not go with the flow!!!!

What do you do?

I used to be a "professional hospital patient." But that would launch into tales of woe with people I just met, so I started going into specifics, or listing off hobbies.

I've always hated that question. It implies that the only thing that you can do is some sort of profession, and other than that, you don't do anything. Hobbies are usually more interesting, anyway, don't ya think?

:) Gretchen

RE: What do you do?

Gretchen...my thoughts exactly.

An old native American poem begins with "I don't want to know what you do for a living...I want to know where your heart lies'

We all seem to fall into that trap of identifying ourselves and others with how we make a living. I am an accountant to pay the bills...but the job is not me...by any means...if I have to describe myself I am an artist and a writer...it is where my spirit lies.

Anyway, I attempt not to ask that questions of people if I can stop myself...what do you do for a living?

RE: Dog days of summer

HI Debra. Just wondering -- is Johnny G's a chain? There's one in my town, but I always thought it was independant... Thanks. Kathleen

Johnny G

I'm not aware of it. The Spinning Johnny G has the name trademarked so all of the other group cycling programs are called something else. For a club to offer Spinning, their instructors have to be certified through Johnny G's organization. They also have continuing ed requirements so he's established quite a financial annuity! He doesn't have a Spinning studio anymore which I think was called Madd Dog Athletics.

Hi all, Congrats to everyone, Hey can you all give me some advice??? is it ok to do the s&h series with a cardio everyday with 1 rest day???????????

Anddddddddddddddddd would you encorporate the ps series with it? or keep the ps series with cardio after the s& h rotation is over??????????? Denice

RE: Hi Denice!!

I think it's ok to do cardio on the dame day as S&H, just maybe not on leg day.
As for Ps and S&H, hmmm..... Do you mean like mon, tues, wed, do the 3 S&H's then thrus, fri, and sat, do the PS's?? I was kinda' doing that, and let me say, it was a touch much. What I'm doing right now is I'll do S&H C&B, along with the chest portion of CST and the back portion of BBA. Now mind you, I'm trying to build some serious muscle, so if that's NOT your goal, I'd stick to one rotation at a time. Just my humble opinion!! Hope I helped ya'!!

Denice

I've been reading your posts the last few weeks & I'm concerned that your enthusiasm may lead you into problems. We should all chose fitness programs that are compatible with our goals, current fitness levels & lifestyle. So if you haven't been doing 2 hour workouts, don't jump into it now. If you haven't been doing high impact cardio work, then gradually add it to your fitness routine. Mix hard days & easy days. Your routine has to challenge you, & just you.

Aimee is training for a fitness competition. She's worked hard & is already one fit puppy. She's inspirational & we're all cheering her on, but her workout routine wouldn't be appropriate for many. You can see from the check-ins (this one & the weight loss group) that we all have different routines & levels of fitness.

One can hinder their results by exercising too much. Diving in too quickly can not only slow progress but usually results in burnout or injury. So please listen to your body. Pace yourself. Enjoy the journey to a fit & healthy body.

RE: Denice

I have been exercising For quite a while, the question is not if I can handle it, I can and love a challenge. What I dont want to do is like you said over do it. As I read many of the posts both here and other forums I get mixed opinions on this subject, some say do 1 body part a day some say 2 some say rest 2 days some say rest 1 day, I can go on and on, so you see I just wanted some more opinions on this subject, being that you all seem well advanced and experienced I wanted your opinion. My lifestyle can handle and welcomes the workouts with no problem, and as far as my goals are concerned, My goal is to lose about 10 to 15 lbs and build a lean muscular shape. I am 36 yrs old sahm 150 lbs 5"3
like I said need to lose weight and build muscle.I use to do the firm and now love cathe much better.bought alot of her tapes, so i need to try different rotations your help would be appreciated Denice
