Is anyone else excited to see this movie? It opens this coming friday and I plan to see it with friends. I loved Willy wonka and The chocolate factory years ago:) I also like Johnny Depp alot. SO as you can see I am so excited about this movie!

Terri

I can't wait to see it either, although I'll have wait for the DVD to come out (I can't stand movie theatre audiences - they're rude and noisy!) The original Willy Wonka was excellent and Johnny Depp is a fine actor. Combine Depp and Tim Burton and it's going to be spectacular!

Without giving anything away (;-)) you'll have to let me know what you think of it once you see it!

I'll be one definitely not seeing this one! I couldnt stand the original and Depp gives me the creeps! I was actually looking forward to War of the Worlds until Tom Cruise started preaching/acting psycho. I'm struggling even to find a movie worth seeing seems like they're all the same nowadays or just simple remakes.

The original Willie Wonka is one of my favorite movies! I'm looking forward to seeing this new version.

I'm dissapointed though that my 12 year old son does not want to see this movie. He loved the original but after seeing the previews for the new version, he said that the movie or rather Johnny Depp seemed kind of creepy!

Alexandra

Absolutely. Teri and I are going to see it next Tuesday (we get free popcorn at the theatre on Tuesdays). She's very excited to see it and had never seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have it on VHS, so we watched it last night and she loved it. I started reading her the book this afternoon. I was an Oopa-Loompa for Halloween about 10 years ago. It was one of my 2 best costumes.

Lunacat, I will be sure and let you know how it is. No worries I won't give anything away:) To everyone else who is going I hope you enjoy it!

Terri

I'm with you, Stacy! Both the original and the new versions creep me out.

We saw Batman Begins on July 4. I actually thought it was pretty good!! I think that's the only other one I'd even keep on the list this summer. Oh yeah, my parents enjoyed Bewitched, too, but I'm waiting to Netflix that one.

I'll pretty much see anything with Johnny Depp in it. He could stand in a field for two hours waving and I'd drop $$$ to see that:p

I am dying to see the movie! :) I LOVE the original movie too!:+ I'm sure this will be a rather wild and wierd off-shoot of the original and I'll bet it will be fun to watch!

I love Johnny Depp:9 ...having said that, I love the original, it is a classic....BUT, some movies should never be remade. Willy Wonka and Gone With The Wind fall into that category, IMHO.

I'm with Shelley. I'd pay to see him do just about anything too. Did you see "The Astronaut" I think it was called w/ Charlize Theron? Oh he was hot in that. Remember 21 Jumpstreet anyone?
Kali

Nahhh! I used to feel a true ache in my heart when I used to see his lovely face on 21 Jump street. Ever since he dissed the U.S. for France, all I can say is good riddance. Hey, Johnny, shut up and act!

The original was a flop and not real good in my opinion, yet I watch it over and over. It's become a cult classic. Of course, I like Gene Wilder so maybe that's it.
Johnny Depp is a good actor but he's another actor who should really just act and keep his mouth shut. He disses the U.S., but sure knows where to make his movies when there is money to be made.
As for the new movie, I am sure Depp will be very good. I have read that this new movie will follow the book, whereas the original strayed from it. You will see scenes from Wonka's childhood, and scenes of him in the land of the Oompa Loompas as well. Seems like it will be darker and weirder than the original.
Wilder is pretty pissed about the new movie. I can see his point. There is alot of rehashing going on in the movies....Bewitched, Dukes of Hazzard, War of the Worlds, Pink Panther. Where is the originality? Hollywood is full of no-talent people these days.

I just heard that on the today show. I read the book but don't remember thinking that it was "dark." According to them, the book is much darker than the Gene Wilder movie (which was "sweetened" up for the sake of making the movie).

I agree! It's nice to see *new* movies with original themes and story lines!

i wanna see it too! Not cuz of Johnny er anything tho, just cuz it looks funni. The first time the preview came on tv, I was in my kitchen and couldnt see the tv and all i heard was "dont touch that squirrels nuts" HAHAHA. I was like what the heck???? That really just sounded WRONG!

Seriously? I've never met anyone who didn't think the original was great. Granted, it's not as good as the book, but I think it's a wonderful movie. There are a lot of subtle jokes in it that are awesome. Mr. Terpentine, Charlie's teacher, really cracks me up. And then all the hype when the world is looking for the tickets is awesome too.

I'm kind of scared to see it. I loved the original, but the Johnny Depp / Tim Burton combination gives me the creeps in the same way the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz did. I don't know why. Just a gut feeling, I guess. Given all that, I'll probably see it, just to see the special effects. I've wished for years that someone would remake it with the computer SFX we have available now.
