Characters popular with the eight year old peeps

To those of you who hang out and often buy for the younger set I would like to know the names of any MALE characters (not sure entirely sure if it is a cartoon character--I was thinking a monkey but now I am not so sure) that are currently popular. The name in question has two parts and is catchy. Whomever it is, one of my nieces would like something for Christmas and I hate the let the little hipster down. So....any ideas? Once I see the name I expect to have an "AH-HAAAA!" moment followed by a "HUZZZAH!" moment.
