Changing hair texture nearing 40?

:( Have any of you had the problem of your hair texture getting dry, brittle, unmanageable when you neared the age of 40? I am 38 going on 39 with a few grays sprouting up (my hair color is getting lighter and it is not as dark, dark brown and is more of a medium to light brown):(

My hair texture has changed but it happened earlier than 40 for me...it went from very straight limp, to frizzy/wavy somewhere around 30s.

I had almost the same problem till I went to a beauty school and got some hints. I now use Vitamin E in my hair before drying with a blow dryer and then when done you may want to get some Shine spray, it really works! I get tons of compliments on how bouncy and shiny my hair is now days and I have bleached blonde then permed it then went back to brown and again with blonde highlights so you can say I fried my hair till it is brittle and dull but with shampoos and those things my hair looks like I have not done a thing to it.

My hair changed when I was around 40. I didn't notice so much dryness as waviness. I've now got waves (of course, waving the wrong way!) that I didn't have before.

Our hair gets dryer as we age. Try some of these hair serums where you take a few drops on your palms and run them over your hair. Works for me. Also you didn't mention if you are coloring. If so, that dries hair out too.

You don't take swallow the vitamin E you rub it into your hair, you can get in the shampoo isle at wal-mart you only need a tiny bit is all, But I stopped using it because I had excellent results with the spray shine and using a hot iron and I get silky smooth hair when done.

How about falling out? I am 44, and it seems like more hair is on the floor after I do it than ever before. This has been going on for a year or so. I color it every 4-6 weeks, and that has improved the texture, but I hope it isn't causing it to fall out. I haven't noticed that it is too much thinner, but there sure is a lot on the floor!

My hair falls out also and it is soooo thin I hate it, but with the products I mentioned it can also make you look like you have thick nice full head of hair, I get away with it. you might want to go to a beauty store they sale something to lift the roots while you blow dry and makes you hair look like tons of body to it. it is light so it won't weigh your hair down. als if you blow dry your hair the brush you use can make a huge differance in the way your hair looks also. you can say I am trying to beat the aging process as I am 37 and found a new best friend, my hubby opened his wallet and someone saw my picture and asked him if I was his DAUGHTER!! LOL so I guess it does work all the stuff I do to my hair LOL.

Your hair I was told goes through falling out stages and it is normal, I went to see a doctor about mine and he just said to take special hair supplements but I couldn't made my stomach real sick, he suggested horse tail or something like that. It worked but my IBS didn't like it!! so I stopped and slowed down on coloring my hair and I noticed it not falling out as much, but I am like you I think my floor wears more of my hair then I do LOL.
