Cathletic Supports Week of 9/22-9/28

workoutaholic

Cathlete
Hi ladies, I think I may have lost a pound or two so far, but I have never had a scale before and I have no idea whether my weight just fluctuates like that normally. I am patiently waiting for my Tosca Reno books to come in for some breakfast ideas - that's the meal that gets me the most. I am totally addicted to a Starbucks mocha with one of their blueberry scones - mmmm. I want one every day!

Let's start this week off right and keep it right - I know you can all do it, and I can, too. I did Cathe's 4 day split last week, and it made me sore after every workout. Even my quads, which never seem to get sore (It's always my tush when I do a leg workout).

I'm going to do Amy's Slo-Mo this week - I am scared - it looks hard! : )

Have a good week.

Nyx

ETA: Aaaa! Nice typo in the subject line. : )

Hi all,

I did HSC Saturday, and Tracie Long Sunday. I took off today so I don't have much to report. My eating has been getting better. I need to find a farmer's market and get some reasonable priced fruits and vegetables.

Nyx- let me know what you think of Slo-Mo. I have it and really need to give it another try. I did not like it at first and have avoided it so much. I like her All Pump Extreme, but have problems with the dvd so I don't use it too often.

Hello everyone,

I'm glad to see someone resurrected the cathletic supporters. I have been busy busy as I'm sure you all have been, and have slowly been returning to my old laissez-faire eating habits. My in-laws came to visit, and I was too embarassed to do step workouts in front of them/or wake them up, and I only got one workout in yesterday (Step Jam) while they were out with my DH and kids. Pretty lame excuses, I know. Anyway, I started my rotation, but then when I couldn't do the exact things I wrote down, I digressed- I've been just doing whatever I feel like, and I need to regroup and follow a plan. I am going to do PLB tonight. There, now I have to do it because I told you guys. I have been doing OK with BFFM, but when the calipers came in the mail, and I measured my body fat at 29%, I got depressed and "what's the point" - ish. Well, enough of my cryin'. I hope you all are doing well, and Nyx, I am so glad that you posted, because I was browsing through, and it made me so happy to see a cathletic supporters post! This smiley illustrates how I feel:

Have a great night!

Hi Sugarbean and Murph, I'm glad you guys posted.

Murph, I did the 2-sets leg premix of Amy's Slow-Mo just now, and my quads were burning up. I hope I am sore tomorrow! I liked it, but the premix was very choppy, and it cut off Amy telling you what weight she was using. I think I actually could have done the whole legs split instead of the premix. What I think I liked about it was the different exercises - like little twists on traditional stuff like the wobbling. Which Tracie Long did you do? I have the 4 TLT's.

Sugarbean, my bodyfat is very close to yours, except I think a little higher! I think I posted it in my stats. Yeah it made me sick - I got discouraged, too. It's so EASY to gain the weight but so flippin' hard to get it off. And then I kept thinking great - 1 or 2 pounds a week, that is going to take forever to lose the 20 pounds I want to lose, and how can I be so disciplined for that long? But we can do it, and I think it's going to get easier and easier, and soon it will just be the way we are - healthy eaters and strong ladies. Man, before I started this, they could have just put my name on that smiley - I always do pretty good with exercising but can't get it through my head that if I eat a box of cookies I'm not going to go anywhere.

Goodnight ladies,

Nyx

At least all of you understand

that I might put on a workout dvd and let it run while I put away laundry. For me what started out as an escape from obesity has become a hobby. I plan rotations for fun. Sick but true.

My weight is back to what it was pre-antibiotics. I am very happy about that. I finished my last dose this afternoon. So no more icky big pills to swallow four times a day. I did a hike/walk/jog this morning. I'm working the last few weeks of the beginner's rotation. I guess I should order C&W after that. I was also going to get the bands and Cardio Hits. I already have RS but Cathe said that C&W would be the next step after LIS on the Total Cardio disc. I already have RS but I don't know if I'm ready for that.
For some reason the eating has gotten easier. I just avoid most dairy, most grains and I really aim for veggies/good protein/fats. I allow myself a light day and a high day calorie wise and that seems to work.

My job has been post-poned another two or three weeks. Thats ok, I like a little time to really study and feel good about my skill set. Socially everything is quiet because of the price of fuel, I'm staying in until I have earned that first pay check. After that I will feel better about dropping 100 dollars to spend a day taking photos in the mountains.

Nyx- I weigh in the morning after my workout before my shower (yes in the nude.) I always believe the lowest number. Its an ego stroke. But, so what? Its really only there to give you a reference to yesterday and one for tomorrow. As for breakfast, making scones isn't hard. I suggest trying a whole wheat recipe because blueberries are good for you. I had a blueberry, black berry and protein powder shake this afternoon. The berries were frozen so it was waaay tasty. I added the juice from one lemon and it was like dessert. Last week I did Amy's Extreme Hi-Lo it was fun :)

Sugarbean- You are a lightweight. Seriously. 29? Thats like a goal for me lol! Don't be depressed when others would want to be like you!

Nyx- you can eat the box. Just not the cookies in it. The box has fiber right?

Hello Ladies!
Hope all is well with everyone. I just did PLB and am in pain. I iced down my knees, time for something lunge free and low impact tomorrow. For my breakfasts, I have an eggbeater omelette with spinach, for the second one around 10:30, flaxseed oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder and a cup of frozen berries. It's no blueberry scone, but tasty nonetheless. For lunches, chicken/or turkey/or tuna with beans/or brown rice/or whole wheat pasta/or sweet potato. Dinner is hard because my DH cooks, but I'm working on it. Rapidbreath, your smoothie sounds delish, I think I'm going to just have a smoothie for dinner- I'm going to try and experiment with something chai flavored. Do either of you guys use a barbell or high step?
Have a great night,
Lisa

Sugarbean - no problem. And I just got the Troy barbell that Cathe uses, I love it. I find it easier to hold my back more upright during squats when I have the barbell on my shoulders. I don't have a high step, but I use my Transfirmer. I really really want a club step and a high step. It would be so nice to pull the high step out instead of the big 'ol TF.

Rapidbreath - I really want RS, but really don't want to pay that price because I don't really want the other workouts on the DVD. I wish you could get RS by itself. I used to make scones from a mix, but I'm sure there were no whole grains in them. : ) I think there's actually a recipe for some BB scones in my hungry girl cookbook, I'll have to go see. Maybe I could eat one in the morning and just add some extra protein. Oh and eating the box doesn't sound so good...I guess I just won't eat either one. : )

I got off track with eating yesterday, but am back on today. For my 10 AM meal, I usually make a smoothie with 1% milk, 1 scoop natural PB, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, and about a scoop of Designer Whey vanilla protein powder. That probably sounds weird but I think it's a little like PB & jelly. I did Firm Calorie Killer yesterday, and have another Amy Slow-mo scheduled for today.

Nyx,
I, too, have vanilla designer whey protein, which I put in my oats and yogurt. Your smoothie sounds good, but peanut butter might be a trigger-to-pork food for me. Where did you get your troy barbell? It seems like shipping would be a lot. I saw one at walmart that was golds gym brand for 55 bucks. I think I am going to treat myself to one when I lose ten lbs. I have lost five already, so maybe in a month. I really want a high step, but it seems silly to pay that much when you could just step on a chair. I just put both risers on my step, and my butt is sore today. I'll try a chair next time, and hope I don't kill myself. When you bought the barbell, did you just buy the bar and the weights separately, or did it come in a set? I have to admit, I have been getting my Cathe DVDs on ebay, and I didn't know they were bootleg until I read something on videofitness that you can tell they are bootleg because on the back there is a little wfi 140 inscription, or something like that, and I looked and most of my Cathe is bootleg. They work OK, but I feel violated :).

Rapidbreath,
how's it going?

Murphy,
are you there?

Hope everyone has a great day,

Lisa

PS, do any of you know how to do a signature bar?

Hi everyone,

I have not posted much lately b/c I have not exercised much this week. Twice this week I got up to exercise only to find that my DH did not wash the bottles for the baby, or did not make the lunches or left the food out. I have to clean up before I can work out and then I am too upset to do anything but mumble to myself. I have to focus and not skip a work out. I have to focus that energy - hey, maybe next time I will do some kickboxing when I get up set. Yes, that sounds good.

On the plus side, eating has not been to bad. I am slowing cutting back on the snacks. I hope to cut them out completely or at least in favor of fruits and vegetables.

Nyx - I have all 4 of the TLT's too. I usually do SIM or BBBB b/c I have not inflated by ball which the other workouts require. I really Tracie, she and Cathe and Susan Harris are my favorite instructors. BTW, I was encouraged too by what you wrote to Lisa (aka Suagarbean) so here is a thank you from me too.

Murph

Hi Murph,
Glad to hear from you! I'm with you about the morning distractions. I'm finding that if I don't get up before them, workouts are not happening. That being said, workouts have only twice this week so far for me, too. good job on cutting out the snacks. How old are you kids?
Hope everyone is well,
Lisa, now we'll see if my new signature line works :)

Sugarbean - this is where I got mine from: http://fitness1st.com/Troy-Bars.html. It came with 35 pounds of plates, and I think the shipping was about $28. So I paid around $100 altogether. I didn't mind, since my hubby has a bunch more 1 inch plates (they're not rubber but they'll work) so I can keep increasing for a long time with what I have now. I think he has two 10 pound, several 5 pound, and a few 2.5 pound plates. I am not sure how to do the signature thing - I haven't tried just yet. I have some bootlegs too - supersets and pushpull! I didn't know either before I read that videofitness thing, I am irritated by that! Now if it's not a store, I only buy them on ebay if it's someone who doesn't have multiple copies of a DVD for sale, or if they haven't sold multiple copies in the past. Those are always bootlegs (again if not a store).

Murph - I love Tracie Long too - her body is just so inspiring, and I like her personality in the TLT's. And I'm glad you were encouraged!

I am wondering if I should try FitnessFreak's get ready for summer rotation - I'm just not sure about only working the legs 1 day plus a circuit. I'll have to look through it a bit more.

I am worried because I am having a bunyonectomy in October and won't even be able to walk for 6 weeks. I wonder if I can find some chair aerobics somewhere. : ) I guess I'll continue to work my upper body and maybe strap on some ankle weights and do leg extension and leg curls. I think I have up to 10 pounds for each leg.

Hello,

workoutaholic, in the pyramid section where Cathe adds 5 pounds (ie 30 to 35 to 40 etc), how do you portion out the weight? With a 5 lb bar, it would be a ten and a 2 1/2 on each side and then add a 2 1/2 to each side?

Good luck with the bunionectomy- you could probably swim or do a stationary bicycle, they probably just don't want you to bear weight on you feet- are you doing both at the same time?

I just looked at Target for a bar when I was there for something else, and I saw Reebok had a 5 foot bar for $15, but I couldn't figure out what the deal was with the weights, so I didn't get it- there weren't any 2 1/2, and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be balanced. Do you go in 10 lb increments? I am fixating on this because it is allowing me not to fixate on some other cr*p that I'm supposed to be doing. I still have yet to work out, I think I'll do Imax3.
Cheers to all,
Lisa

Hey Lisa, for 30 pounds - I use (2) 7.5's, (2) 5's, and the bar. When I bought it, it came with (4) 2.5 lb. plates, (2) 5 lb. plates, and (2) 7.5 lb. I haven't gone heavier than 40 lbs yet - it's sad but I can't get a whole lot more than that over my head safely.

I'm just doing one foot. I hope I can do stationary biking or something. I will definitely ask the dr. at my next appt.

Speaking of fixations - I don't know what to do with myself...I have the barbell I wanted, a way of eating that I really like (BFFM), a new cookbook, I don't need any more DVDs at the moment (with STS coming in a few months, and I know I'll be getting Chalean Extreme). I need a new fixation I guess...

Good night ladies!

Hello All,
Trying to fixate appropriately on a work thing I have to do, and it's stressing me out completely unnecessarily. I just bought Cathe DVDs on ebay (which I probably shouldn't have), because I am fixated on acquiring all the DVDs to complete a whole rotation. It's not good enough in my mind that I just sub something. I need a feather, like Dumbo, when he was learning to fly, to make me believe that I can do all of this without the exact trappings. I did the cardio part of Imax yesterday, and didn't do anything today because I was working on a talk that basically still s**ks. Is Cathe still going to do rotations, do you think, when STS comes out? I'm not ready for STS yet, I still want to do all the rotations, mabye do STS next year. I saw a 100 lb barbell set from Walmart for around $40, so I'll probably just get that. Well, good luck re-focusing your fixation, and wish me luck with mine. Have a peaceful night all,
Lisa
