Cathe's June Rotation - week 2 - Monday- check in

Just starting this because I am up early for son's AM swim practice.
I am actually taking a rest day. I did not last week and am feeling it today! Start in on legs tomorrow. Hope rain does not prevent the run tomorrow. Have fun with PS legs today, it's a toughy.

Hey everyone,

Have stuff to do tonight, so I did PS Legs, Abs, and a 30 minute walk/run this morning. It was a toughie. I kept telling myself when my legs felt like rubber when I was running that this would probably be the toughest workout of the week. I find doing weights for legs the cardio drains me a lot. But it's a good feeling.

My triceps are SO sore today, it is unbelievable. I really love this one body part per day approach. I have done an S&H rotation of about three weeks before and noticed a lot of strength gains, but I have never broken it up into one body part per day. I really think I am able to go heavier than usual. I was able to do more of the tricep dips yesterday, and stay heavier for the second sets of tricep extensions rather than dropping to 5's right away.

Have a great day, everyone and see ya tomorrow....Sandra

I was running late this morning so I started with Triceps - PS and MIS. Since I only have VHS it's a pain fast forwarding/rewinding (maybe it's the incentive to switch to DVD format). Hopefully I'll have some time tonight to put in 30mins of cardio. Tomorrow I'm planning to do legs, abs and another 30mins of cardio. I liked last week's rotation where we split up S&H.
See you,
Patricia

Hi all,

I missed check-in yesterday so have some catching up to do. I didn't do a workout yesterday of Cathes, but did 7 solid hours of heavy housework so I'm counting that as a workout. I was drenched with sweat, so I know my heart rate was up there. We are leaving on vacation this Thursday, and I have company arriving on Wednesday, so worked 7 hours both days on the weekend to get ready.

I did PS: Legs and ABs this morning and I don't know how but made it through. I was overtired from working yesterday and couldn't sleep, so I did it on about 5 hours of sleep. I just took one exercise at a time, and somehow made it all the way through. I didn't do the 30 minutes walk/run because I never like to workout more than 1 hour except occasionally on the weekend. I'm happy making it through Legs and ABs in one day!

I agree with you all that cardio after a legs workout is wicked.

I may not be around now until after my vacation, so I'll have to start back up with you all around the 19th when I am back. I'll miss our daily checkin.

While I'm on vacation, I'm going to go running on the beach, and I'll take 2 7lb weights with me to do some arm work and also focus on abs and core because that requires no equipment.

Hang in there everyone - I'll check in tomorrow and Wednesday if I can, and if not, see you when I get back.

I'll miss you all! Funny how I got attached to hearing everyone else's stories - I like sharing a rotation like this. I'm also loving the style of the June rotation and will keep it to try again in the future.

Hi everyone! I did PS legs this morning followed by the first segment of PowerMax. I didn't have time to go for a run. Plus, by the time I was finished with PS legs, that's when traffic is heavy from people going to work. I hate running with all the traffic.
PS legs is a toughy, isn't it? You know it's working. That's why I like it.}(
Punky, we will miss you. It's sounds like heaven running on the beach. I'm jealous.:p

ps.I definitly think 7 hours of heavy housework counts as a workout!!

I finally got around to actually following one of Cathe's monthly rotations for the first time.

I'm still in week one (I was swamped until last Friday). Since Friday, I've faithfully followed her schedule. I have a question, though. Are people doing cardio first and then weights? or are you following the order she's listed in the rotation? Thanks for your responses!
Lorrayne

Hi Lorrayne...I do weights first and then cardio for a couple of reasons: 1) I have more strength when I do weights first. If I did cardio first my muscles would already be depleted from the cardio 2)I read that it's more beneficial to do weights first as it starts the fat burning process. It takes approx 30mins before your body starts to burn fat for energy that's why if you start with weights by the time you do your cardio you'll be burning fat (yippee!).
Hope that helps.

BayouGal/Sunnyside - thanks - I'll miss you guys!

Sunnyside - thanks for agreeing that my 7 hours of housework should count. I'd much rather be doing a Cathe workout for an hour though! LOL
- don't be too jealous - I'm only going to the beach in Maine, so I may be freezing my buns off if its rainy and cold! hehe - but anywhere not at work is still heaven for a week.

Lorrayne - as Patricia said.....I actually always used to do cardio first and then weights, but am giving the weights first theory a try and really liking it. Took a while to get used to though. The only day its killer is when you do a leg workout and then cardio. If I was designing my own rotation, I'd make the leg day legs and abs only, and add the cardio on the other days.

I'm waiting for the rest of the check-in 'ers to hear how their day went! Its so much fun to have others to tough it out with.

BTW, were those Sit and Stands in PS Legs brutal near the end of the workout or what!!!!!:p

Thank you -- weights first then cardio

I want to thank you for your comments regarding the ordering of weights and cardio. I also read somewhere about doing weights first and then cardio. My concern was that I wouldn't have the energy to do cardio after doing weights (I workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach). I'll try this tomorrow morning and will report back. Lorrayne

RE: Thank you -- weights first then cardio

I am doing legs tomorrow, resting today, so I am a little scared from all the reports of how hard it is!! I am going to have to do this first thing in the AM also, so I will probably eat a banana before I start and by the time I get to run it will be digested. I may have to substitute something indoors, they are calling for strong storms and tornadoes AGAIN. I think we have had enough of that in Illinois.

Have fun at the beach, punky, maybe it will clear up out east. It is getting a little better here in the Midwest. We get about a day and half in a row. I may even attempt swimming outdoors Wednesday.

RE: Thank you -- weights first then cardio

Hi all! I did PS Legs and Abs and instead of the walk/run, I did Cardio & Weights Step Saver. Was a great workout all in all. Still feeling sore from Tris yesterday.

Did you all enjoy the great weather we have today here in the east?

Talk to you guys tomorrow!

Nette

I'm a day behind most of you, just finishing up week 1. And I had to do IMAX 2 today, since I skipped it yesterday, and I was absolutely dripping by the time I was finished.

My triceps are my weak area, so I was very proud of myself for sticking with my eights in the kickbacks sets--the first time I've managed to do that!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I did PS legs and abs except the very last hamstring exercise. All I could think about was that I still had to run. I ran 4 miles after an hour of legs. Good Grief!!! I was exhausted. That was a very slow run, but I survived and I am sore today.

Looking forward to todays workout. Doesn't look as difficult as yesterday. What is it with Mondays with her? She tries to kill us on Mondays.

Have a great day

Hi everyone! For those of you in the east, are you enjoying the gorgeous weather we have today?

Did PS Back, MIS Back, All Step Abs (have MIS in VHS and got too impatient to rewind) then Kickbox cardio. Great workout! Still feel sore from workouts from the past days.

Enjoy your workouts!

Nette
