Catheites from Toronto? need some advice....

Hi

I was wondering whether there were any Catheites who live in Toronto who could give me some advice. My husband and I will be moving there in a couple of months and we need to find rented accomodation. We have no children but we have never stayed in an apartment before.

I was just wondering how you guys did Cathe (all the thumping that is involved in her cardio). Do you'll live in houses or is it possible to find a ground floor apartment? I need some advice/ suggestions when looking for accomodation. I have seen some basements in houses for rent but thought they might be too cold and dark. Thanks to anyone who might have some input.

I live in a Toronto suburb in a house - so I can't help much. All I know is that it is a renters market now ( for the first time in years!) so - you may have luck finding a duplex, although they are still expensive.

Hi There...
I grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, but now live just North of Toronto in a town called Maple.....It really depends what area of the city you are looking at renting in......
You can find some very nice neighbourhoods but will pay high $$$...
Or you can find some very run down neighbour hoods and Pay cheap $$$$
Or some areas that are in between and pay average rent....
I will send you the link to some websites and maybe this might help you??

Hope this helps....
If you need any specific information, or have a specific area of the city in mind....let us know, and we can tell you what to expect from the area!!!

Thanks for your responses.

Lynne, a duplex or something that has more than one level to it would probably be the best bet. I don't think those high rise apartments would work unless they had something on the ground floor.

Jenn - thanks so much for those links. I'll check them out. The problem is that my husband and I want to live in central Toronto for a while as we don't have children as yet and that's where both our workplaces will be. We've lived in Texas for a while now and we want a break from all the driving we've had to do. We are looking for something connected to public transport and fairly close to work.

I'll just keep looking. We did see something really nice a week ago that was within our budget but there was no way I could do my Cathe tapes in it as it was on the top floor of a house with landlords beneath.

The way my workouts are my number one priority when hunting for accomodation is driving my husband mad!! He keeps asking why I can't just go to a gym.

But I'm sure we'll find something. Thanks again for posting.

You know in Cathe's cardio routines when you are jumping with both feet at once onto the step and she says "shhhh!"? This takes on new meaning when you live in an apartment.

In downtown toronto, the large majority of apartments are "flats"...ie, they're in big houses, and so not so sound-proof. It is a renters market right now, so you should be able to see lots of places in your price range (example: in a nice downtown neighbourhood near the university, a two bedroom apt. can probably be found for about $1200 Cdn, maybe even less. We rent out a basement apartment for $550. This is a good deal compared to a couple of years ago). The downside to these "flats" is that it's really tough to workout above someone else, they can hear everything.

I've never lived in a high-rise but I would think that with all that concrete between floors this might be easier/more quiet. You can also try and find a place where your workout space will be above, say, a laundryroom below, or someone's kitchen or livingroom (so if you make noise in the morning, say, you won't wake them up). Basement apartments are defintely cheaper in Toronto, but it's hard to find one that's a) decent and b) has enough ceiling height to do step-ups.

Please email me if you want any info about Toronto, I've lived here almost all my life. My email is [email protected], always glad to hear about more catheites in the area!!!

Christine
