Cathe workouts & WW activity points

Good Morning

It's almost Friday (YEAH!!!).

I was wondering if anyone out there is a Weight Watcher member and does the Cathe workouts. How many activity points do you give yourself for the following workouts? I put next to it what I've been doing (am I way off with my guesses?). I weigh about 136 pounds.

Body Max 5pts
Circuit Max 4pts
Power Hour and MIS 3pts
Any of her step videos 4 pts

Also, do you do the whole Body Max workout or are you suppossed to split it up? I've been doing the whole thing (90 mins.). Just wondering.

Thanks,
Kimbra

Hi Kimbra! Good question. Unless WW have changed their activity point system within the past year, or you are modifying the workouts to a lower intensity level, I think you are underestimating. At 130 - 135 lbs I was giving myself the following points:

Body Max 8 pts
Circuit Max 5pts
Power Hour 4 pts
MIS 5 pts
Step Workouts, depending on which one, between 5-6 pts
MIC 7 pts

Body Max can be done whichever way you choose. It's nice to challenge yourself to do the entire thing, but it is also a great workout to break up. Tack the upper body weights on after a different cardio workout, for example. The choice is yours.

What do other WW/Cathe people think about the point allotment?

Cheers,
Sandra

Kimbra,

I am a WW also and I weight 136#. I struggle with determining AP for Cathe as well. I have a HRM however, it doesn't calculate calories burned, so I don't think I can go by that.

I usually consider my weight workouts moderate intensity, so about 2-3 AP for those (depending on how long). Cathe cardios, I consider high intensity, so I agree probably 4-5 AP for those (if you don't include warm up and cool down).

Any other input out there? It's hard--I don't want to overestimate either!

By the way, are you eating ALL of your AP, some or none? How are your losses? I struggle with this as well! I ate all my AP and most of my FP last week and just stayed the same with my weight. Grrrrrr. I only want to lose about 12 more pounds.

Thanks for bringing up this topic!

I have done WW Flex in the past and just wanted to add....I was assuming 4 or 5 points for Cathe and when I did WW AND Cathe, my weight loss stalled. I suspect the points are closer to the higher numbers that the other poster stated. I think when you are working out you must must must eat it all.

I almost did better with flex when I didn't work out! Sounds crazy I know. So that makes me suspect that you should err on the high side and see how it goes. I think I was underestimating the APs.

I guess I do kind of go on the lower end for the AP. But somehow I can't believe that I have earned 5 AP by exercising.

I eat all my points AP and FP. However, I do feel bad when I know that I have to exercise in order to eat dinner without using a ton of FP. I found that if I can go into the weekend with at least 20 FP I can do OK. But I never track anything it seems on the weekend. It's like my journal gets lost between the car and the kitchen on Friday PM. I'm a lifetime member who is struggling to lose these last pounds. I want to be around 128. Last month when I weighed in I was at 132. Yesterday I was back at 136. I am not watching what I eat at all or writing it down. I'm very frustrated with myself. I do always drink all my water so that's a plus. I think the last 10 pounds is the hardest. I feel so much better now then when I was at 178 that I've almost become comfortable at 136 even though I'm not happy with how I look. I'm only 5ft. I hoping to be at my goal by Jan 1st. If I can just be a good girl during the holidays.

Thanks for the advice
Kimbra

I consider the straight weight workouts medium intensity and the straight cardios high intensity (except the beginner DVDs of course). Boot Camp is high intensity. I'm not sure about some of the other circuits. For me it depends on how hard I worked that day.

Jen--You say your weight loss stalled when doing WW and Cathe....what did you end up doing? Did you get to goal? Did you give up Cathe or WW or both? Just curious how you resolved that!

Thanks, Thea

I'm on the "flex" plan and I think your numbers sound good.

I like to use Cardio exertion level chart as a guide. As Mindy Mylrea says "think of 1 as sitting on the couch eating a bon-bon and a 10 as throwing up in a bucket!" I love that.

So usuing that chart, I average how I felt through out the whole workout. For a level of 8-9 cardio exertion I usually put the intensity level mid way between High and Moderate. It seems you're doing the same thing.

On the back of the AP card,I really dislike the way they discribe how to determine your level of intensity. I can sweat just sitting here on the computer, so do I earn Activity points for the time that I'm here?
Boy I'd NEVER lose weight!;)

Thea: I did get to goal, and am still at it, actually a little under (I am very small framed and found their assessment for my height was too heavy for me, at least with my current level of muscle, if that makes sense)

...when I started WW I was postpartum and I had 3 kids aged 5 and under and really didn't have time for even Cathe workouts, most of the time (baby up all nite, etc)...that is why I started WW...I figured even if I didn't have time to workout, I had time to eat right. And it worked. So I did WW alone with out any cardio, mostly just weights, and lost about 18 lbs over about 8 or 9 weeks.

..Later, baby started sleeping better, had some time to do Cathe, added it in, with WW...stall stall stall....wondering why.....

...still later....other kid stuff sleep issues came up, had to stop working out, but kept on doing WW...lost the next 2 lbs.

All that I can guess is either
a. Didn't eat enough AP and my metabolism slowed down
b. Didn't drink enough water with the increase sweating, etc.

both are key key key. I hate to tell you to stop working out....so maybe try eating more, at the very least eat absolutely ALLL of your points...you may be underassessing your APs. Either that or your portions have crept up somehow.

Hope this helps ya!
Jen

Thanks Jen! I wonder if I need to eat more AP or something. I notice that sometimes after I "splurge" on a weekend, the next week I have lost more. Then I gain, have a small loss or no loss after being really "good" with my eating. Hmmmmm.... I usually have no problem with water. I may be guilty of letting my portions getting too big--I don't always measure.

I am going to try a couple of things for the next couple of weeks like eating all my APs etc. I was going to try Core, but I'm not sure that would work during the holidays or not.

Thanks again, I'll keep you posted!
