I just started a 5 week rotation started it Monday. I am doing 3 step tapes and 3 weight training days.

M STEP TAPE
T BOTH PYRAMIDS UPPER AND LOWER
w STEP TAPE
T muscle endurance
F step tape
S maximum intensity strength
S rest
What I want to ask is this, do you that do cathe's step tapes think they are as good as running on the treadmill or power walking,- jogging outside?. I used to power walk only but never got muscle definition like I have now. I do have a good electric treadmill with an incline. I was wondering if I would get better results than some of her step tapes, I just find the step tapes so fun and what a good work out. I thought maybe it would be good to alternate, we have a great walking trail down the road and I have the treadmill if I want.
I would rather do the tapes but power walking/jogging might be fun too. Do any of you do both and have you seen results just by Cathe's videos, thanks everyone and good night. I will check back tomorrow.

God Bless and good night

Hi,
I love doing my Cathe workouts. Step blast and IM2 are my faves for cardio. Time goes by much faster with her. But last Fall a co-worker kept dragging me out to the trails to run and I was so bad at it that I persisted. Winter I took to the treadmill until I could run 30 minutes consistently then went back to Cathe.
For the first time I wasn't dying doing IM2, could sail through RS and could do CMax no problem. My FIRM workouts became beginner workouts for sure. I spent most of Jan and Feb with the BB and March started 10 K training. Tonight was my first run with a group out in the cold. Running gives you an amazing sense of accomplishment. It really relieves stress like nothing I've ever seen. Can you tell I'm hooked? It's more MENTAL than Yoga. It really teaches you to keep going and not be so reactive. To be patient.
I am trying to get Cathe Weight Training in though and am still learning how to juggle that with 4 days of running. Do I think she's as hard as running? She's definitely the next best thing to it. If I'm not on the TMill then it's CATHE. Doing the PEG LEG!
So it's Cathe for weights, Running for cardio, Stott for core work, Kest for flexibility. Step Blast/SJP and Hagen Daas for a feel good day.

Thanks Rach, I hope you had a good run tonight. I guess all in all running, step tapes are great. I think what ever we do an enjoy doing it will keep us moving and motivated. I noticed when I do use my treadmill I have to go a lot faster to get my heart rate up, so it is good in knowing I am getting in a lot better shape. I also love taebo I mean I love any kind of kickboxing (Cathe;s) or taebo, now I break a sweat there, LOL!.
I LOVE YOUR HAGEN DAAS FOR A FEEL GOOD DAY. I will be doing a Cathe
step tape this morning , just need to decide which one. Have a nice evening.

Debra,

I run and do Cathe Step tapes. I run more during the spring and summer. I am on the treadmill in the winter. I have found them both very effective and I like to do the cardio I am in the mood for. So, sometimes it is running and sometimes it is one of Cathe's step tapes.. I do find myself doing a step tape when I am a little tired or not feeling as energetic.

Beverly

I run and do Cathe, but it's usually either/or. I usually stop running during the winter, and when spring comes I have no problem completing a 3 mile run. My knees take a little more time to get used to it though.

As far as results, running has always given me better results.

Debra:

the Cathe weights tapes will give you the definition. In combination with either her step tapes and/or running, power walking for fat burning and cardiovascular definition.

Just do what you want. What makes you happy. Running is harder than Cathe cardio, bottom line, and will make you fitter. I think RACH, your first poster, has the perfect fitness program. And she has tailored it to her own needs (both physical and emotional) and desires.

Feel free to do the same. Both running and Cathe cardio will give you "results."

Hi Debra,

I received your e-mail. I e-mailed back and your e-mail would not accept mine, saying I was blocked.
So, I will reply here.

Thanks for the compliments of the pictures. They were taken after I did the Intensity Series for a few months. I really noticed a difference in my core area. The IS series is awesome..

I looked at your rotation a little closer. I think that you would get better results if you replaced two of the Step days with runs. Maybe Monday and Friday. I also think that your Wednesday Step tape should be IMAX or IMAX2. Definetely keep the weight work in there. Do you plan on doing PLB and PUB in their entirety in one day? Wow, I am impressed. I could get through the up only premixes. What other strenght tapes do you have?
These are just my suggestions, I am sure you will get great results without running also. So, I do suggest you do what will keep you motivated. Running motivates me, becuase of the results and the feeling of finishing a race or just a good run....

Since you are having soo much fun with Cathe, maybe just 1 run a week to start would be good..

Good luck and keep us posted on how it works out.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Have a great day!

Beverly

Clare, I agree with ya on the running, I have been running now for 2 months, one day I will get past 3 to 3 1/2 miles, but for now this works for me, combined with my weight training........ I don't do the step workouts...... Rhonda :7

Hi
OK now you guys have me going on this, LOL.
Beverly - you look wonderful! Did you get that ab definition doing the "I" series alone ? OR did you always have that.

I just recently purchased the "I" series and can feel my abs already, wooohoooo I would love to tone like you have.
And then there are the pikes, YEA - if I want to fall off the ball sure no problem, LOL.

I feel like I need all of cathe's tapes lately, I am on a buying spree but maybe I should just stick with the Intensity and see where that takes me w/ 1 running day to start off.
How long do you run for ?

Thanks! :)

Beverly, I do have Imax2, and love it.

for strength, I have pub, plb, me, and mis.
I do the combo on the plb and pub it takes about an hour. I love maximum intensity strenth and Muscle Endurance great work outs. Maybe I will try running on the treadmill once or 2 x a week, but I love step so much. Sorry about my email I will have to look in to that .
I also love weights with cardio such as cardio & weights and circuit max and love all Cathe's kickboxing tapes. If you have any more suggestions I would love to hear back from you. You look wonderful and keep up the great work.

back to work and thanks so much.

Debra

Gyggles,

I looked at your before and after pictures... That is outstanding. Good job. How long did it take you to get to goal? You should be very proud of yourself..

I think you should try sticking to the Intensity Series for a couple months and see what it does for you. My abs have always been one of my better body parts, but the I series just gave it more strength and a more solid and toned look..

Let us know how you do with the Intensity Series and the results.

Keep posting pictures too. It helps me keep from denying anything.

I do have a big behind though. Genetics.. ;) I like to blame it on that instead of the chocolate..

Have a great day!!

Beverly

Debra,

I found the pyramid ups to be really effective. They include the stability ball work which I found gave me good results.

Good luck on your rotation ane enjoy Cathe's workouts. It is hard to get enough.

I did Step Blast today and PP upper body 2 sets..
I had a lot of fun..

This is a great time of year for running though !!!! :)

Have a great day!!!

Beverly

Beverly,

You look awesome! (I peeked at your album). What rotation do you follow and on which days do you run?

Bernanjo,

Thanks for the compliment. Currently I am following a Lower Body Rotation. I also add running in with this rotation.

Day one: PP two sets upper body, PLB floor work, BC core work
Day two: Imax 2 and BC cardio only
Day three: L&G or L&G extreme
Day four: PS upper body or PUB
Day five: KPC
Day Six: SJP

This is a rotatioin Fraffy (Melanie) posted about a month ago. I do run about 25 miles a week right now. I try to get all of the rotation in too.

There are a few of us doing this rotation now and we check in on the open discussion forum if you want more daily detail.

Have a great day and workout!!!

Beverly

Thank you Beverly - I was thinking about changing my rotation - its been 2 weeks & I just feel pooped & just plain worn out but I am not sure if its how Ive done my workouts lately or if its just TOM.
This is what I have been doing except I switched it this week some.

Last Week:
Mon. PLB
Tue. PUB
Wed. ME
Thur. Treadmill run / walk
Fri. Imax2

This week:
Mon. PLB
Tue. BC
Wed. Treadmill
Thur. I did a Firm tape today
Fri. Not sure now, LOL.

I do like to take 2 rest days & having them be Sat & Sun but maybe I need to change that.

What do you think ?

I reached my weigh goal in 1 yr & 4 months doing Weight Watchers, now I am just trying to maintain, tone & lose some inches & hey if I lose weight then its a bonus :)
Thanks again,
Laura =)

Laura,

Three weight workouts in a row would wipe most people out. If you are really feeling exhausted, try doing the up only premixes of PLB and PUB. Don't throw ME in there till you take a day off from weights. Even do the ME 50 minute workout. The Intensity Series is very intense, but I know it will give you some great results. But it sounds like you may be over doing it a tad.

Rest days are great, you should keep them. If you could put the rest days in that are not 2 consecutive days in a row may be helpful too..

Just a suggestion here.

Week 1
Day one: PLB up only premix
Day two: IMAX 2
Day Three: PUB up only premix
Day Four: rest
Day Five: ME or C&W
Day six: rest
Day seven: BC or C&W

Week 2
Day one: cardio of choice
Day two: PLB & PUB bonus combo
Day three: rest
Day four: ME
Day five: Imax 2
Day six: BC or C&W with Pyramids floor work
Day seven: rest

Just a few suggestions. Listen to your body.

Have a great day and congrats again on the weight loss!!

Beverly

Thank you for the suggestions Beverly - I really do appreciate it alot :) MY only thing now is I only own VHS versions of Cathe but I think I can kind of figure it out.
Thanks so much, maybe that is explaining why I am so tired & irritable.

Thank you so much :)

I can't believe those who think running is harder than Cathe!!

Actually, in anything less than 70 degrees running is hands down easier for me. Above 70, it starts getting close. But there is nothing to beat being outdoors and wind on cooling your body. I think my internal temperature just gets higher and I don't cool as efficiently indoors. I have fans behind me but maybe I need them in front of me?

Yeah, running and juggling Cathe is difficult. I am much better off if I do a little bit of both. Next week I am on S&H mixed with one upper and one lower body stability workout. I will add in 30 min. of hiking/running on 3+ days for cardio. Or walk on one day for 60 min, but force myself to go slow. I really have to limit myself or it turns into overtraining big time!

Janice

Running is so much harder for me than any Cathe video and I've been running (and doing Cathe!) consistently for a long time!

I feel the opposite way - I can't believe that you would think running is easier! I'm jealous!:) Every run is such a challenge for me and I get such an amazing feeling of accomplishment when I finish!
