Cathe vs the New FIRM4

Hi everyone,

I am a FIRM user and post regularly on the FIRM BB. I just ordered Cathe's beginner DVD's (BF and HSC) because I wanted a good intro to Cathe. I love watching her workouts on Fit TV. Her instructions and exercises are top notch quality (and her personality is genuine). After working out w/ the FIRM for about a year, I'm getting bored and am ready for a bigger challenge. It appears Cathe's videos offer so much more "bang for the buck" than the FIRM videos and I'm ready to kick my fitness level up a notch.

Everyone talks about how superior Cathe's workouts are as compared to the FIRM. However, the FIRM is coming up with their new series, FIRM4, and everyone is raving about how much better and challenging it is compared to the previous systems.

What is everyone's opinion on this? Think Cathe has met her match?

Not in a million years could Cathe have met her match with Firm. I did The Firm for years and totally credit them with getting me into exercising, but they really are beg/intermediate where Cathe is more advanced. Not knocking Firm but it is apples and oranges in my opinion. I have never regretted a Cathe purchase but I have regretted Firm purchases...unless you go way back.

Ditto!!! What amazes me about Cathe is the constant variety and new moves. With the Firm it's the EXACT same moves, although maybe in a different order. Those leg presses with weights go back to Sandahl Bergman in Firm Classics volume 3! Once GT took over the Firm the customer service went straight to hell and it's been that way ever since. Additionally, I won't waste any more money on the cheap gadgets that you have to have for the Firm (I'm on my 3rd incline box in BSS3). Maybe Cathe will meet her match, but I guarantee it won't be from the Firm. (BTW - I was a Firmie from the beginning - back in the mid 80's)

I too credit the Firm for getting me started exercising again, but after using Cathe the Firm just doesn't challenge me anymore. I can't speak for Firm4 as I haven't seen it, but they would have to do a major change to their usual format to match the intensity of Cathe.

I'm fairly new to Cathe and I have over 300 exercise videos/DVD's. I don't have one in my collection that compares to Cathe's intensity. I love Cathe. I guess I'll have to use my Firms, etc for my recovery weeks. It's really sad to see all of them just sitting around, but Cathe really is beyond compare. Don't get me wrong, I like the Firm and Fitprime for that matter, but they are nowhere as intense as Cathe. I wish I'd found Cathe years ago.

I am a former Firm Believer and after using Cathe, will never pick up a Firm tape again. Whatever you may think about the personalities, instructors, sets, gimmicks, etc., the bottom line is results. I see ONGOING improvements with Cathe as well as continuous challenges. the Firm of today is a long way from what it used to be, and that is no compliment.

Cathe is the best, bar none.

I used to workout with the firms but they are boring and the instructors do not motivate you that much. I must admit I was afraid of Cathe's workouts. The first one I bought was KPC with the Legs and Glutes workout, I love it. It is tough but it is fun, it is a challenge! I have sold most of my firms workouts on e-bay and Amazon.com and purchase more Cathe's DVDs. Imax 3 is the toughest cardio I have ever done, and I am getting better and better. I love HSC, MM, the entire Hardcore series, is awesome. I think Cathe is the next level.

DITTO :) I started w/the Firm for weight workouts at home but I think Cathe is a whole different level. I still have (and sometimes still "do") my Firms. I have "old" ones. I don't have any of the new kits, etc. - I didn't even know there was a Firm 4! I do them b/c I like the variety of adding in different things, but I stick mostly to Cathe and P90X now. It is the whole package- the personality, the variety, the music, etc.

Dani thanks for the welcome!

Thanks everyone for their honest opinions. I think I really wanted everyone to confirm what I already knew...that Cathe's workouts are superior to the FIRM.

Much of my dissapointment w/ the FIRM not only has to do w/ their lousy customer service, but that they've commercialized this product line so much since GoodTimes bought their name. The FIRM is constantly trying to appeal and attract to everyone; as a result their workouts have suffered somewhat. Whereas w/ Cathe, she knows who her devoted customers are; therefore she listens and gives them what they want.

I think I'll still continue to use the FIRM (for my recovery days :p )but I'll use Cathe's workouts to advance my fitness level. I've already previewed Body Fusion and High Step Circuit and I'm excited to work out to her. And the quality of the DVDs are amazing! I just love the chaptering/mixing/matching that comes w/ each DVD. Definitely worth its price.....
