Cathe, question about ab work

Hi Cathe! Congrats on completing yet another project--I have no doubt it'll be your usual fabulous, butt-kicking product.......

I'm curious about the frequency & duration of ab work. I've been told, and it seems to make sense, that for definition abs should be worked like any other muscle (i.e. 1-2 times a week w/weights & low reps) rather than overtaining them & therefore shrinking the muscle. So that's pretty much what I've been doing for about the last 10 years, & even though I vary the exercises I seem to have hit a plateau.


When I do my routine at the gym I do 2 weighted exercises, 4 sets 15 reps each--takes probably around 20 minutes. I have one day set aside for core only during which I'll do a tough kickboxing workout followed by the toughest ab work in my DVD library, typically Core Max. Usually when I do Core Max I do two segments in a row, one of which is always the weighted segment. Is this too much? Is it overkill that's affecting potential progress? Also, sometimes I'll throw in a lighter core workout like pilates for a 3rd ab workout when time allows.

I guess what I really want to know is, what is your ab routine? You're totally chiseled & definitely have that 6 pack going--I know some of this is genetics & some is diet but I know some of it is also down & dirty hard work. Would you mind sharing with us? Pretty please?
