Cathe or educated crowd - shin splint prevention?

Cathe or educated crowd: I'm 46 and have always suffered from shin splints, which has prevented me from jogging or running. I have always chosen lower impact cardio - rebounding - biking - hi/lo - step (modified).

However, I'm in the best phsyical shape I've ever been and decided to try a walk/jog. Ofcourse, the dreaded shin splints came back.

Are there any exercises to prevent them?

I do have flat feet and pronate and wear a high quality running shoe. Should I just give up the idea of outdoor aerobics?

Thanks.

Hi! Shin spints can be so painful! What I do is to put ankle weights around the top of my feet (over the toes), lie on my back with legs in the air and just pump your feet up and down. You'll feel it before long! Doing this strengthens the muscle and I've found that it helps me a lot!

Good luck!

Jazz-
I've got an article from my doctor I got when I had to recover from a tibial stress fracture. The same exercises will help you prevent shin splints. PM me and I'll send it to you- it's a little big to post here. ;)

Cathe does some tibialis (shin) exercises in one of her workouts (Gym styles lower body? Maybe?). Sit on a chair or high step, with the stability ball held against your legs, sitting on top of your shoelaces. Push against the ball while pulling on your toes.

i think she does the excersize in her body blast series-pushpull or ss.cant remember exactly.
