Hi Cathe,
First I want to say I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I can feel your pain and know how frustrating this is for you not to work out.

This past weekend, I fractured 2 ribs and in quite some pain. I'm even in more pain because I can't do any of your workouts for a good month and can't tell you how depressing this is for me. My doctor told me I can do a little walking and gradually build up to going for a bike ride. But no lifting for a month. He said I could try to jog, but only slowly at first.

My question to you is after I get my doctor's ok to start working out again, what exercises could you suggest I do to build my strength back up? What exercises should I avoid at first? What workout DVDs of yours could I slowly get back into? I consider myself to be in great shape at 40 years old and can keep up with all of your workouts. This is a big accomplishment for me! I don't lift as heavy as you as I like to lift with light weights because of the lean look I'm getting. I can't thank you enough for introducing me to your workouts!

Any ideas to getting back into exercising using your workouts would be greatly appreciated. I have been eating clean while not working out, I know it will help with my recovery!

Thanks and hope you're feeling better soon.

Hi Erin. I'm so sorry to hear of your injury. Oh my, that sounds so painful. Please rest up and listen to your doctor so that you can get back to your normal routine soon.

As far as what to do when you get back into lifting again, as long as you have your doc's approval and clearance to do all exercises, I would simply do total body weight training two to three times per week with pretty light weight. If after the first week or two, you find the weight is way too easy, gradually increase it to a poundage that is challenging and causes no discomfort to your injury site at all.

Once you are comfortable with that routine you can go back to what you always did. Good for you for eating clean too.

Best of luck to you and please take care.
