Hi there~
My twelve year old has been trying your workouts for the past year now. He began with BootCamp and then would occasionally join either his dad or me for whatever weight tape we were doing. He wouldn't do the whole thing however.

My question is this: He really wants to do a weight workout that he can commit to for a while. I told him that I would ask you which one was best for a young man his age. Lately, he has done MIS upper body and BodyMax Upper body mixes that don't run very long. He manages them pretty well and seems to enjoy doing them.

Thank you~dmd:)

Hi dmd,
Its such a coincidence that your 12 yo son does Bootcamp. My husband and I just enlisted my 13 yo old son for Bootcamp this week. :)

We are trying to help him have some control and rhythm with his body. He currently plays basketball and he has alot of potential but when he is running up/down the court his body is flailing all over and he seems to be wasting alot of his energy. I don't want him emphasizing building muscle just yet, he uses the 15lb body bar for the barbell moves , a 2lb medicine ball and 3-5 lb dumbells.

I am sure the plyometrics will be beneficial too!

Hi Joyce,

Thanks for your input. That BootCamp workout is great for young people I think because it is short and sweet. The poundage your son uses sounds about right. I am with you, I don't thing young people need to start "building" muscle until they are maybe 16yrs. or so...however, it would be interesting to hear what Cathe has to say about this. The light weight workout never makes him sore really. I guess that good. :) dmd
