Pictured here are Cathe, Jai, and Kristin performing a static lunge combined with a barbell plate halo circle.

This dynamic exercise is featured in the new Functional Lower Body Routine. This compound movement focuses on lower body and core strength, while also challenging balance and coordination.

Functional lower body is just one of the three moderately weighted routines in the Lift, Move & Restore series (however you can do this routine with lighter or heavier weights if preferred). It’s never too late to start weight training, even if you’re over the age of 65 to 70. Research shows that older adults can show an even greater improvement in muscle strength than younger adults.

Strength training with moderate to heavier weights can also help improve muscle mass and bone density. For women especially, strength training with moderate to heavier weights can help counteract age-related muscle and hormone decline.
