Cathe I need your advise

Hi Cathe
I need to lose 10 pounds for an upcoming event in September. I put on 10 pounds in a 7 month timespan. What happened was I trained and ran the NYC Marathon in November 2005 but stopped running after the mararthon due to burn out from the aggresive training schedule. During my training there were a few times I had to run 20 miles which took about 3 1/2 hours. Anyway, I think I may have slowed down my matabalism. I am going to try the following schedule. Please let me know if you agree or could you recommend a more agressive program to lose the weight by Sept. I am 47 years old 5'3 inches and weigh 127.
IMAX & SH Legs
IMAX2& SH Shoulders
IMAX3 & SH Tri's
Lowmax 7 SH Bi's
Cardio and Weights
Muscle Endurance

WOW!!! Not Cathe here obviously, but that's A LOT of interval training! I always thought you should not do that much interval training. Now whether it's due to stress on the joints (from the IMAXs) or stress on the heart from the intervals I'm not sure. I'm anxious to hear Cathe's response but I think I'd back off if that much interval training. Good luck!

I am obviously not Cathe, either, but I wouldn't recommend that much interval training (or step training -consecutively). I would try to incorporate some other programs rather than just step. Yes, I love step too, but you may suffer burn-out. Your fitnes goals (and weight management) should be something you strive for long-term, not just until September, but I am sure you already know this. The key for not burning-out is to mix things up, and to give your body a change in program (and mind too). Have you tried some of Cathe's other workouts like Step, Jump, and Pump, Step Blast, Kick Max, or any of her other aerobic workouts? Also, you may want to incorporate some running or eliptical training again.

I am anxious to hear what Cathe has to say about this. Don't forget that mixing up the type of program, as well as the intensity of program will aid in your fat loss. There are so many ways to accomplish this without being too hard on your knees and ankles (as with any high impact workout). Sure, working out like this is fine a couple of times a week, but too much and you'll either get injured or burned-out. I am sure you don't want either. Good luck and don't forget to eat clean:)

Hi,

Also, not Cathe, but I also am not sure this is a good approach for what you are trying to achieve.

I ran a marathon a few years back, and was surprised that I didn't lose weight until AFTER I ran the marathon. My knee bothered me after the marathon, so I cross-trained for a few months after and lost about 5 pounds. Do you have Kick, Punch, and Crunch? I find that Cathe's kickboxing is great for leaning out. Also, I prefer Gymstyles and Upper Body Pyramid to Slow and Heavy when I want to build muscle without gaining weight. And I find Bootcamp to be a great circuit style workout for leaning out.

I wish you good luck, and I hope Cathe sees your post and can give her expert advice.

Have you tried checking the rotations that Cathe has posted? She has a good one for shedding holiday weight gain for the month of January. YOu may want to check it out.:)
