Cathe, exercise for body shape?

I'm new here and so glad I've discovered your videos! I read on another fitness forum that you are, like me, an "apple." Five years of doing a combination of cardio and weights has done little do slim my waist (body wears a size 6, waist a 10/12!!). Would you recommend a higher ratio of cardo vs. weight training for that body shape? Having had a baby 18 months ago really hasn't helped either. I'm on the verge of purchasing a treadmill to start running ...

If this helps, I remember a couple of posts from Cathe where she said that she had to run a couple of days per week to slim down her own waistline. I also, being an apple, will begin running next spring, when the weather's warmer.

Hi,
I have the same body type too. I gain it in the center before anywhere else and I lose it there last! It's horrid! About 5 weeks ago I started to do split training with Corey Everson's Basic scultpting but instead of using her leg tape I used LL and I cut back on the cardio. My legs have responded wonderfully to LL...and somehow my pooch started to disappear! The tapes did well form chest too and anterior delts. Last week I started with S&H and I love this series! The leg portion is easier than LL but that might be because I dont have enough weights for it...but I am not complaining! I liked being able to squat at a slower speed. The arm work...OMG! Can I say OUCH one more time with those kickbacks? Anyway with the split routine I found I was getting my legs stronger and my butt bigger so that the lowerbody looks more proportioned...it got rid of the fat pooch (no cardio too)and are now doing wonders for my arm fat. I suppose building the limbs can sort of make your middle whittle? I dont know...but I simply adore not doing any cardio right now and seeing results. Ofcourse I know I may have to start slowly getting some in once my body adjusts to lifting...but Cathe is right! Weights are good for us!

Hi JCM! Welcome to the site. I would say to do the exact opposite combination of what you are doing now, since you are obviously not happy with your current results. I would also say to do cardio activities that you usually do not do to shock your system. I don't know if you run or not but that really slims my waistline. Also, vary the type of weight training you do. And focus on eating the cleanest diet possible, really be faithful to this. Let me know how you make out. Good Luck!
