I am so tired of shredding carrots. Anyone know of an electric untensil that really, really works like a hand shredder?

I use my food processor with the shredding attachment...works grate...LOL! I used it to shred a few pounds of carrots last Saturday for a carrot cake.

You can buy them in store already shredded, that is what I do. It costs more but I can't be bothered cleaning the food processor

karen:)

What kind of food processor do you have, not too expensive I hope?

The carrots already pre-packaged and shredded just don't taste as good, they taste kind of hard, it makes me think they have lost some of their nutrients.

It was a wedding gift....works great though and clean-up is a breeze.

They definitely have. Anytime food is cut (like shredded carrots, those pre-sliced apples, etc.) and exposed to air, more nutrients are lost. Shredded carrots would be particularly bad, since much more of their surface area is exposed.

A food processor is one of the most useful kitchen tools I own--it makes hummus dip and guacamole and bean dip and such in a fraction of the time it would take to prepare without it.

If you don't want to invest in a food processor, there are some hand-crank versions (like Salad Shooter) that are faster than grating, but much less expensive than a food processor.

My niece has crohn's disease and on one of her visits to the doctor, the doc said one of the worst foods for your digestive system was shredded carrots. The get stuck in the colon and cause all sorts of problems. I now chop them in pieces and get a good jaw workout.

Popcorn hulls.

Back in the 70's, when I was experimenting with a lot of things, I did a 3-day water fast, with enemas and intestinal massage (to help get stuff out with the enemas). Some of the stuff that came out was popcorn hulls, and I hadn't eaten popcorn for over two weeks.
