do you think 2 days a week of cardio (CC primarily) is enough to lose weight? Or do you think one needs 3 or more to get the weight loss benefits? I was thinking of doing GS mon, wed, and fri and doing CC on tues and thurs. Thoughts?

I don't think any one of us can possibly say whether this is enough cardio for you to lose weight. This cannot be stressed enough, but every single one if us is different and our cardio versus weights needs are different. What works for me, 3 cardios per week, but I often only manage 2, may be useless for you. You really have to just use trial and error and find out what combination suits you best.

Regardless of weight loss, which, personally, is a particularly unmotivating one, three cardios per week is a good minimum to adhere to for heart health. If you can set goals based on a desire to be healthy, run a 5k, or something similar, you might experience greater success. As you aim for greater fitness and health, let the weight take care of itself. Just a thought.

for me, 2 times per week is not enough... I have pretty much flatlined/plateaued when I get less than 3 cardio workouts per week... I do have to admit that I do less cardio since I started with Cathe, because I can't do Step workouts, so the only cardios I have are a few Taebo, KM and KPC, and the TM/walking... but I find that I love the weight training so have been focusing on that... now that the "newness" is starting to wear off, as I just started a little over 3 months ago with Cathe, I hope to find more of a balance, especially with STS on the way, and will definately do 3 cardio days in between each of the 3 STS workouts per week...

step it up for a few weeks and see how your body responds.. if you find you have good results with it, keep doing it... if you find it makes no difference, change it up again... I don't know if a few weeks is enough to get a good guage on it, but is a place to start! :)

good luck & let me know what decide!

As a personal trainer, I tell my clients what the American College of Sports Medicine recommends (for healthy adults under age 65):
Do moderately intense cardio 30 minutes a day, five days a week
Or
Do vigorously intense cardio 20 minutes a day, 3 days a week
And
Do eight to 10 strength-training exercises, eight to 12 repetitions of each exercise twice a week.

Moderate-intensity physical activity means working hard enough to raise your heart rate and break a sweat, yet still being able to carry on a conversation. To lose weight or maintain weight loss, 60 to 90 minutes of physical activity may be necessary. The 30-minute recommendation is for the average healthy adult to maintain health and reduce the risk for chronic disease.

That being said, weight loss is basic math--calories in versus calories out. Personally, I believe that proper nutrition is 80% of the weight loss battle.

Good luck!

I can attest to this fact! OMG can I ever! My eating has gone south over the past few months but my work outs have stayed the same and guess what? I gained weight and trust me, it's NOT muscle! :(

As of today I am cleaning up the diet again. I need to lose these few extra pounds. It's not alot (3-5 pounds) but it all settled in one place and now my jeans are all too tight!!!!!
