Cardio Suggestions

Hi All,

I'm a 47-year-old who has been working out with Cathe's videos since May. I became acquainted with her when I saw her Low Max workout on FitTV on InDemand. I loved the workout because it was really challenging so I decided to get the DVD and have been working out with it ever since. I have since bought IMAX3 which I LOOOVE (how does Cathe and Company not fall out after Plie Squats??)!

I've been active for much of my adult life. I have been lifting weights for 22 years and my preferred method of cardio is step workouts. Right now, I would like to be leaner than I am.

I really love the Cathe DVDs that I have. It's funny that since I've been using Cathe's videos, the ones I used before regularly are just WIMPY!

Can you suggest any other advanced step or floor aerobics videos that don't include weights? I love the two that I have — right now I just need more variety.

)ZoeRabbit,
You only have TWO!?!!? You are so lucky because there are so many great cardio workouts from Cathe just waiting to kick your butt! (I agree about the plie jacks, I can do them, but it isn't always pretty, okay maybe it's never pretty...x( ) If you're looking for intense cardio you can't go wrong with any of the other Imax videos (1 and 2), Maximum Intensity Cardio is older, but it is an ADVANCED floor cardio mixed w/ step cardio, The Terminator takes pieces from Imax 2, Cardio and Weights, and Bootcamp and mixes them into some tough cardio and circuit workouts, Step Blast and Rhythmic Step are more steady state cardio, fairly complex choreography that will keep your heartrate up and they are both FUN, although most on these boards will tell you that Step Blast has a much higher fun factor, it certainly has better music;-) If you are into kickboxing at all Cathe has Kick, Punch, and Crunch which is intense, has some awesome premixes on the DVD and on the DVD is combined with Legs and Glutes, an awesome legs workout that has some great non-traditional exercises.
Hope this helps, let us know what you're most interested in and I'm sure we can direct you to the burn!

If you are looking for step workouts, I'd go with:

Rhythmic Step
Step Blast
Cardio Hits
The Classics

The last two are older and the style is different (also, some of the workout clothes are just hilarious), but the workouts are interesting and fun. If you are advanced, RS is Cathe's most complex step workout.

There is also an "ultimate guide" to Cathe's workouts by intensity level posted somewhere on the forums. I think it is in this section; it will be pinned to the top.

Good luck! Let us know what you buy!

My favorite Cathe workouts - cardio only without weights - are:

Step Blast - absolutely excellent!
Imax 2 - all of the Imaxes are great, but I think 2 is the most fun

Maximum Intensity Cardio is cool - first half is old fashioned aerobics, second half is step.

Kick Punch and Crunch, as others have recommended, is a load of fun. No step involved and a nice change. Kick Max is also fun, especially the high intensity drills. But KPC is better, I think.

By the way, all of Cathe's tapes are considered advanced except the new ones that she is now selling - these are for beginner to intermediate. But the utterly cool thing about Cathe and crew is that they specifically target the advanced workout.

Step Blast
Imax 2
KPC

All these will give you a run for your money, include greater music and are just the best that Cathe has produced.

Thanks,

I was thinking about KPC (I like kickboxing workouts too) and maybe the other IMAXs. I really want workouts that are on DVD. You all have given me much to think about. I really want to sweat it out, which brings me to another question: How come Cathe and crew don't look as wiped out as me after the workout is over? And how do you workout with a smile on your face the entire time?

That'll be my next challenge: Do the entire workout with a grin plastered on my face. :D
