cardio question

Hi Everyone!

I have a question regarding how much cardio is sufficient. I have always had a hard time keeping on weight so I don't need to lose any fat. However, I know that I need to do cardio in order to keep my heart happy. Is thirty minutes three times weekly enough to accomplish this? I usually do three Xtrain videos a week.

I actually prefer lifting so it works out pretty well for me. I have learned to love Cathe's cardio, though. After all, who wouldn't?

BTW, Honeybunch, I've been following your success story. Congratulations on becoming a PT. You certainly are moving right along! I became certified last Sep., but haven't done any training yet. You really are an inspiration!

The amount of cardio should be fine, but if keeping weight ON is a problem, you may want to do something less high powered, like walking. And be sure one of your CTX cardios is the Kickbox one since it's the least intense. You could walk one day, Kickbox the next and the last do step. Maybe do the step on a lower level.

I've learned with doing so much low impact high low over the last few weeks, that low intensity is very effective.

If you haven't done any training yet, have you considered getting hooked up with a local Y? Do you have one in your area? They are excited with my idea of working with golfers.

Thanks for responding, Honeybunch.

We just moved to Phx, AZ from Tucson and I'm sure there are several Y's here. Do you think they are more open to helping people get started in personal training than a regular gym? I worked in a gym in Tucson as a fitness counselor before I became certified. I really need some hands on training to get started.

I think training golfers would be great! There are some many avenues to pursue when considering training. Good luck to you!

My Y was very eager to have me....they were getting away from what the boss lady said were "muscle heads." They were pretty much promoting from within, so using me off the street as a green ACE trainer is a new direction for them.

You can't beat the Y reputation and the perks like the free training and a free membership. I've been spending money like water this past year to get certified, so it's nice to get something free.

Hey, go for it!
