Cardio Coach ?

I'm new to CC. I purchased volumes 2, 7,8. Tried 2 and 8 first. LOVE the intensity although I nearly puked the first time I did 8.
I did a better job of finding my level 3 the second time around.

I went back to buy all the volumes so I have them all!!

This morning I did vol 7, and cramped up under my ribcage during the 2nd challenge(sprints and hills).

Why did I cramp up????
I've never had this happen.

CC kicks butt!!! The entire time I'm working them, I can picture my legs and heart getting stronger.
It's amazing how fast one hour goes by with CC!!!

I have no idea why cramps at the rib cage happen. They have happened to me too, if I experience a significant change in my workout (in terms of new activity, change in intensity). They usually dont strike after a couple of times withe the new routine as my body settles into the new way of working out.

The second challenge of Vol 7 is ultra intense, so I am not surprised to hear you had cramps.

CC is addicting! :) Welcome to the All-Volume Club.

Hmmmmmm, I'm not sure why you would cramp up. I've never had that happen while doing a Cardio Coach workout, although I have felt a little green under the gills before :p .

Seriously though, were you adequately hydrated before starting the workout? I sometimes wonder if dehydration can cause this. I sweat like crazy during the workouts and I've learned to drink up starting a good hour beforehand. I agree with Vrinda, the 2nd challenge in #7 is pretty intense and it doesn't surprise me in the least that you would feel some cramps at that time.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the workouts. I just think cardio doesn't get any better than this -- at least not for me it doesn't. ;)

I keep hearing Tony Horton's voice in my head. He warns against drinking or eating too much before plyo or you will cramp up. I've never cramped up doing plyometrics. I thought that was tough cardio! Nothing I've done to date compares to CC's intensity.

My elliptical has never been used this way in the 5 years I've owned it!
I've done HIIT similar to challenge 2 in volume 7, but not during a 60 minute session with a 21 minute level 3 prior.
I keep thinking about all the fat that has to be melting off my body!

I wake up every morning and have 32ozs of water, 2 cups of coffee first thing.
I wait about 1.5 hours before I jump into the cardio. I had one tablespoon of peanut butter before attacking this beast.

I don't know if the cramps were from something I had, didn't have, or I'm just not used to training this hard for this duration.

Anyway, I'll do vol 7 again in a few days and see how it goes:7
I'm LOVING every minute of these challenges!!!

I was beginning a cramp while doing 4 the other day during the second challenge and have experienced it a little in the past.

I usually have a glass of cranberry/water w/flax before I run and sometimes a little more.

What I find to help me is to put pressure on it if I can (depending on how much I need to use my arms while running) and then try to concentrate on standing as tall as possible while continuing my run. They seem to go away. Keeping track of your breathing sometimes helps to - sync your breathing to your stride.

Good luck next time !

Thanks Jaque.

I'll try that. I was sort of slumped forward, grasping my side.

I was tempted to skip the last challenge, but I couldn't bring myself to quit:)
I made it through challenge 3 maybe not ending at a level 4 as coach Sean predicted, but I pulled out a level 3!

Oh wow, well, you're better hydrated than I am :p . And yes, I meant that you should drink well ahead of the workout -- not right before, but obviously hydration isn't the problem.

Is your form okay? Did you rest a day or 2 in between V7 and V8? Or maybe you were pushing it too hard? I can't think of anything else. Hopefully it won't continue to be an issue.

I love the challenges, too. These workouts are just a rollicking good time on an elliptical!! :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure my form is ok. I slumped forward when the cramp hit. I've never had it happen before.
Yes, I had plenty of rest. I took 6 days off from working out while DH and I were on vacation.

It's very possible I pushed too hard.....paying penance for all my vacation sins...wine, ice cream, french fries, pasta. }( }( }(
Oh, my new favorite cheat food. Sweet potato fries dipped in honey!:9

LOL! You gave me a mental picture of an elliptical with smoke rolling off it. Coach Sean will do that. ;-)

I have had the cramping feeling before and it was from uncontrolled breathing. I think uping the speed to fast, etc. I really try to concentrate on my breathing.

Hope that helps

Thanks!
It makes sense. The challenge was one minute sprint, followed by one minute up hill, with a 30 second recovery.
I'm going to pay attention to my breath next time:)
