cardio coach?

Hey everybody, what are the cardio coach thingys I have heard about? They sound like something I might be interested in. Where do I find them? Thanks guys.

Maeghan AKA megadoo;-)

www.cardiocoach.com

They are audio work outs for cardio machines like the treadmill, bike or elliptical. They come in MP3 format as well as CD's.

There is also ITrain which is the same idea but they only come in MP3 format.

I was hemming and hawwing over which to try first and decided to go with ITrain. I am very excited to get to the gym to try it out now!

Edited to Add: Cardio Coach seems to be the more popular around this forum. Not much talk about ITrain but I listened to the 2 I purchased and they sound pretty good!:)

HTH!:)

Thank you so much! I did a treadmill run last night, and it seems the right music will give me that extra "juice" to get through it. Thanks for the link!

I haven't tried cardio coach either, but like Wendy I have tried one itrain program. I love it. The music is great. I listened to the CC music and it just didn't click with me. I have the iclimb 3 (40 min) workout and I do it on the elliptical. It is great. I am going to purchase some more programs though for variety :) . Also, they are cheaper than the CC programs. So, if you don't know if you would like these types of workouts this might be one way to try them.

Wendy - Which itrain programs did you download? Let us know how you like them. I can't seem to decide which one to go with next.

I have volume 3, 4, and 5 of the Cardio Coach workouts and I very anxiously await the release of volume 6. These workouts are so amazing. They turn my hum-drum treadmill time into some seriously kick butt workouts. I love these workouts and would highly recommend them if you're looking for a way to spice up your treadmill, stationary bike, etc. routine. :D :D

Hi Karin! I actually pulled up a thread that you raved about ITrain in which helped me decide to go with them. I was leaning towards them anyway since they are cheaper and it would be my first time using workouts like these. It was hard to judge from the short clips on the site but I went with:

*IClimb 40 min work out from set 5
*ITread 40 min work out from set 3

I listened to a good portion of both once I had them on my player and they sound great! I can't wait to get to the gym in a few days and try one!!! If I like them I think I will be downloading a couple of the 20 mins routines so that I can change machines and do 2-3 different workouts in one gym visit. I like changing the machines up after 20-30 minutes...it kills the monotony.:)

I also chose ITrain over Cardio Coach because CC depends alot on an HR monitor and being in different HR zones, etc. I have an HR monitor and use it but I'm not THAT into it and don't have a desire to be. Since ITrain doesn't refer to heart rate zones it will be much easier for me to follow along properly.

JMO and certainly no offense to the CC fans!:+

I know what you mean about the monotony! I used to be ADD girl on the cardio machines. My workout would consist of 15 min bike, 20 min elliptical, and 20 min stairmaster. Boy, that 20 min seemed like forever too. I thought there was no way I could stay on an elliptical for 40 min, but these workouts give you something to think about and motivation. I love it. Have fun with them.

I'll have to check out iTrain as well! I have CC and love it, and I do NOT use a HR monitor. You most definitely do NOT have to use one. CC workouts are interval workouts - the "zones" just are a guide to make sure you are pushing it as hard as you should be. I can tell from my perceived rate of exertion when I'm in the correct "zone" - it's trivial. Basically, in the interval, go hard. Really hard. Then slow down when it's over to recover. Then get back to steady state, before the next interval starts. Basically, think about what Cathe takes us through in the IMax workouts - same thing.

I also don't usually use CC on a treadmill - I use it for running outside, and it works great.

Hey, thanks M.! I'm glad to know CC's are workable w/o an HRM! If I enjoy ITrain I will look into CC as well now. Thanks!:)

I have some of them on CD, but have not used them yet. I have get bored very easily, and I'm afraid it would not take me long to get sick of them. I like different music all the time - that keeps me from even trying them.

And thanks to you!!! I just checked out iTread, and I think I'm going to nab a few! I like how it's suited for the treadmill (telling you exactly the settings to use), actually, now that I'm doing a little bit of treadmill running now and again. I might get a couple of 20 minute ones for quick cardio workouts during lunch...

Another ITrain junkie chiming in here....I really like Sean O'Malley...but the music was just not my thing, and while I liked doing them, it was not fun. ITrain is completely different, there are so many different workouts, geared to specific equipment, the best part is how you buy them. They have 3 plan...you buy one at a time, buy into 12 months and get a certain # of workouts(I think 3) each month for one price(50.00),or a monthly plan(up to 5 workouts)for 9.00. So if you got on the monthly plan, you would never get bored, cause your workouts would be constantly changing.
I am not a cardio fan, I have trouble with one ankle and my knees, so the elliptical is perfect....but I really need a coach to push me....the ITrain music is more like I would pick out myself. So far I have downloaded 3 of the IClimbs and have not been disappointed.

Ok...now everyone has me very interested in the Itrain workouts. What are they exactly and how do they differ from Cardio Coach? I tried getting on their website and wasn't able to for some reason. Also, I don't use my hrm with the Cardio Coach workouts either. I basically do what mspina does. I push as hard as possible during the intervals and then take it down to recovery and then steady state. Thanks.:D

Hey Ciddy! Maybe that is what I like about ITrain....no hrm, although the equipment at the gym has it built in, I find that when I don't wear mine, I can better concentrate on how I am feeling, instead of just the number. Keith gives you specific levels to use, but because all machines, and people are different, he makes it real clear that you have to find "your level 5"...which could very well be higher or lower than the number on the machine. I think what it comes down to is that I just plain like the music better, and for me that is a HUGE factor...plus the fact that I just like his voice....although Coach Sean sounds darn nice too!!

Donna

Donna,

Music is a huge factor for me as well. It motivates me in every way when the music is good. I have tried and tried to get on the Itrain website, but no information ever appears...it's just a blank red box, so I hope you don't mind my questions. What kind of music do they use? It is familiar music or techno stuff? Thanks.:)

Ciddy, that is so weird that you can't get to the site...the into does have a red box, I don't know why you can not get any further than that......the music isn't familiar to me, but is very "current", a little techno, a little of this and that....hard for me to describe...if you like I can try to email you a snippet if you like, I think I should be able to do that!!
Donna

you have all peaked my interest in Itrain. I went to the site but couldn't find where i could sample the music. can anyone offer any insite?

thanks,

okay, i'll give this a try.

www.itrain.com

click skip intro on the bottom right

click on workout programs on the top left

then for example click on iclimb

there you will see listed iclimb 6 the 20 min workout. if you want to sample this music click on that megaphone speaker thing to the left of where it says 20 min mixed level.

if you want to hear the clips of previous iclimb workouts click additional workouts on the bottom right then again click that megaphone speaker thingy and you should be able to hear clips.

HTH,

Karin
