Cardio Coach Vol. 8.....how'd you do?

Kathy G

Cathlete
This morning I tried out Cardio Coach Vol. 8 and let me tell you....it's AWESOME! I'm still on an endorphin high, lol. I am so NOT a hill person but I did LOTS of hills today and I feel absolutley amazing!

I ran over 5 miles in a a smidge under an hour. My speeds ranged from 5.6 - 5.8 on the treadmill and inclines 2-5%. I had to literally ring out my sports bra in the sink before I could throw it in the washer!

If you haven't taken the plunge on a CC yet, get this one! It has three challenges with the first being one progressively bigger hill, the second is two 8 minute hills with a 2 minute rest between, and the third is my favorite....a hill "ladder" that starts off with a 4 minute hill, 3 minute hill, 2 minute hill, 1 minute hill with progressively shorter rests between. Whew!

I can see using this one as a really TOUGH incline walk. The music is probably some of the best on any CC so far. It really matched the intervals and Sean coached just at the right times...enough so you knew he was there and pushing you along but not so much that you couldn't focus. Excellent, excellent!!!! ;)

I think this is going to be my new favorite Cardio Coach workout. I thought the second challenge was so hard, probably because it's long and unrelenting, but I loved it! The music was perfectly suited to the challenge and Sean's coaching was superb!

Your description of challenge 3 is great -- "hill ladder" -- I love it!! It also happens to be my favorite challenge. ;)

Your impressions are spot on Kathy.

Vol 8 is kick butt tough whether you choose to walk, run, bike or elliptical.

My favorite segment is Challenge 2. The two 8 minute treks drive me to ecstacy.

Loved it. I'll be doing this one a lot. Did it on the spin bike today, will do it on the treadmill tomorrow. Love the music, coaching and the challenge. Can't get enough of especially 7 & now 8.

Thanks for the description, Kathy. The last challenge sounds like a pyramid descent, which is my favourite way to do cardio. CC#5 is designed in this fashion, and I love it. Since I haven't spent neeeearrrly enough money on fitness products lately (rolling eyes at self), I'll march on over to CC right now and purchase.

Cheers,
Sandra

Hi Sandra,
The last challenge in Vol. 8 is very different than Vol. 5. It's really is a true "pyramid descent" in that it goes like this:

First hill 4 minutes - rest 2 minutes
Second hill 3 minutes - rest 1 minute
Third hill - 2 minutes - rest 30 seconds
Fourth hill - 1 minute

By the time you get to the 4th hill, the progressively shorter rests really get you!!! I hope you enjoy it!

Kathy :)

Kathy,

Yup, I understand. Thanks! I just went to the website and read the Cliff notes. I was laughing pretty hard by time I finished reading the stretch portion. I'll be purchasing this for sure. The thing I love about pyramid cardio is by time you're back down to the bottom of the pyramid, you're flying. I get such a rush by the end of the workout. Love that.

Cheers!
Sandra

I downloaded it today and just finished doing it on my elliptical. Wow. I can't believe how hard I pushed myself. I got my HR up to 180 which is great for me and something I've never been able to do on an elliptical, only running. I'm very impressed!

Amy, I think Vol.8 is PERFECT for the elliptical! I had DOMS in my quads and butt after this one! I just love the hills, and while sprints are fun, they just don't translate as well on an elliptical. I'd love to see what the workouts are like on a stationary bike -- I've only ever used an elliptical. I don't like dreadmills so I don't see myself ever trying one.

That 3rd challenge really gave me a rush! :D

hi - can someone help provide a link where to buy this? When I go to cardiocoach.com I can't find a store link

thanks!
Jane

I just got in from google. I ordered the CD-R - can't wait!!
when I geth home tonight, since I paid, will I also be able to download it, does anyone know?

Thanks!

I don't think so -- you'll probably have to wait for the CD. From past experience, I can tell you that he's really good about shipping CD's in a timely manner ;)

Okay, now you all have me wanting to try it on my spin bike and elliptical, lol.

Tygra - check the email address you gave for the purchase. Sean usually provides a link. HTH, although I've never bought the CDs only the MP3s.

Kathy

thanks Michelle and Kathy - I used to use these workouts in a room without a computer using the DVD player. I have the 80 gig Classic ipod - too big to use on the elliptical (purchased for Cathe's upcoming MP3 and workout mixer). Now I just realized we moved and the elliptical is with the computer, so I could've done the MP3 workout tonight! I'm still using vol 1- 7 in CD format, like the back up :) ....ugh, I do want to try it tonight now....maybe have to do #7 in place or buy it again - glad to hear such awesome things about it :)

Wow, this past week I've purchased this, pre-ordered Tracey's Steady State Step and Strike Zone and Amy's ASC 3 and rumble....keeps the workouts new and fresh and can't wait to get them!

Thanks
Jane:)

I wouldn't buy it again. You can upload the CD to your iTunes library and then download it to your iPod. You can do the same with the CD's you already have. That's what I did -- I bought all of them in CD format and put them on my iPod, and I'm glad I did! I lost my entire iTunes library and I was able to restore my Cardio Coach workouts because I had the CD's ;)

I did CC8 this morning for the first time. Loved it!! Man it was tough. I almost didn't make it through the last challenge. The last challenge was my fav.

Love cardio coach!! one of my favorite fitness finds (besides Cathe of course!),

I have vol 1 - 7 (8 on the way) - I've only done 4, 5, 6 and 7 so far and several times. Thought 1, 2 and 3 were more beginner? Those that have done these 3, please advise - what are your thoughts on them? Compare them to the latter versions?

Thanks again!! I LOVE CC!!!

Jane

I just downloaded 8. I cannot wait to do this tomorrow morning!

Jane - I have 1-4 so far (and 8 now). After doing 4 for the first time yesterday, I would have to say that 1-3 might be more "intermediate" due to the length of the workouts, but my HR still gets as high on 1-3 as it did on 4.

I do push myself harder on 1-3 now than I did when I first started using them about 3 weeks ago. I guess they can be as intermediate or advanced as you want them to be.
