Carbs & Recovery

Ive read many times over aout carbs helping tremendously in muscle recovery and soreness.. then Ive also heard that it is overrated a bit...
Naturally I don't go crazy with it, but I was wondering.. If you increase carbs to help aid in recovery (I was so sore yesterday I could barely move lol), will they still wreak havoc on the diet or do the extra carbs get consumed by the muscle or something??

What kinds of carbs are you talking about what kind of exercise are you talking about and when are you talking about consuming them?

I subscribe to OnFitness magazine (the awsomest fitness magazine to grace the planet!) and read an article in last month's issue that talked about this. I can't remember the details, but walked away from the article understanding how and why simple carbs help in recovery after a workout, and it all made perfect sense at the time. It had something to do with the physiology and chemical processes occurring in the body after a workout, and how the body pulls glycogen stores for fuel and how carbs contribute to the fueling without having to get stored as fat, etc. All I know is that the best time to have a banana or a glass of orange juice is within an hour or two finishing my weight-lifting workouts. And it must be working okay, because I've been doing this for a few weeks and have actually felt slimmer, although I've not yet noticed the weight change on the scale.
