Can't Exercise

Hi,

I am really down at the moment. I have had this pain in my back that goes to my hip and now my leg for about 2 months now. I have not been able to do Cathe but have walked. Now, I don't even think I can do that because of the pain. I am going for an MRI today, could be a pinched nerve or something like it. Any suggestions on what exercise video or something I can do while I heal. I will be out of my mind without any exercise. Thanks.:-(

Rose, you really need to check with your doctor about that. S/he will have a better handle on it once they've reviewed your MRI. I would probably give it a rest for now. If you do anything, make it something very low to no impact. If you have a gym membership perhaps you can try the elliptical trainer? Some gentle stretching or Pilates might be okay. For the time being, keep it very simple and don't continue any exercise if it produces pain. I'm sending you good ((((((((healing)))))))) vibes.

Rose - take it easy until you see your doctor. Let us know what he/she says. Then I'm sure we'll be able to come up with lots of creative workouts for you, according to the doc's specifications. Take care!

i really think you need to dicuss this one with your doctor. you might have siactica or something of that nature and its nothing you really want to jump into a workout without professional advice.

Sounds like some sciatica, or piriformis syndrome (the piriformis sits over the sciatic nerve and if the muscle is tight, can irritate it).

After you get a diagnosis, have your doctor send you to a physical therapist. There, you'll get specific exercises (maybe foam roller ones) to treat the problem, and you can ask about what types of workouts might be doable (at least not contraindicated). Maybe upper body weights while you sit on a stability ball? Maybe stationary biking (again, if it doesn't aggravate the problem)? Maybe swimming?

This is definitely something you should take up with a pro who has first-and access to you and can determine what would be safe for you to do at this time.
