cancelling BodyMedia (GoWearFit)

Hi guys,

After having my GWF for a year, I would like to cancel my subscription, but nowhere on their website does it explain how to do this - lots about how to join up, nothing about how to cancel. Has anyone successfully done this, or has anyone any idea how I can cancel my subscription? I hate this crap - very poor business practice to keep charging someone for a subscription after the commitment period ends while making it so hard to cancel a subscription. By the way, I never lost a pound on it in the last year. I stayed within the same 5 pounds the whole year.

Thanks!

I hate when business do this also. When the year is up it is up. PERIOD.

Check your credit card statement. By my charge there is a 10 digit number that I think is the telepone number.

Good luck.

When I cancelled mine, I just went to the "contact us" section and sent a message. I found the link under the faq section on the website. I really wish it wasn't paid subscription, because I would still use it if not.

I recall reading when I signed up that after the pre-paid year, the fee would be 6.95/month and you can cancel at any time. I use mine on and off, am thinking of canceling too, not sure yet.

Hi Morningstar- was there another reason besides not seeing the progress you wanted? I've been toying around with the idea of getting something like this but it's pretty big bucks.

Please give me the good, bad and useless!!

Pam

I have it and when I eat 3500 calories less than I use in a week I lose a pound. It is accurate for me. I'm not sure you need the monthly fee after set up if you have the "watch". I seldom log on. I just record the total for the day at midnight if I'm up or "yesteday" amount if the next day. It holds yesterday's totals and todays. You would need to buy a month again if you needed to change battery or let armband lose charge because you would need to set up date.

Same here as Wendygurl - emailed and they cancelled within a couple of days and sent an email response as well.

Yep, me, too. I had no problem cancelling. I also kept it for a few months, got an idea of how many calories I burned with various exercises/activities and then sold it to a co-worker.

Pam,

I am a certified personal trainer and worked for 24 Hour Fitness where we promote the BodyBugg (same company, slightly different software/features), so I know first-hand how helpful and motivating this gadget is for my clients.

It was a big eye-opener for me, personally. I was surprised at how many calories NEAT (non-exercise themogenesis) actually burns (for me, same as lifting weights).

It was very motivating to get me moving and reach my daily goals.

You can get pretty good deals on ebay.

I regret selling it and am keeping my eye out to get another one. I came to realize that $6.95 per month for an annual subscription for such a cool and helpful gadget is a small price to pay.

Thank you MadnNatsMom (hope I got that right!). Maybe I can convince Santa to bring me one for Christmas!

QVC is also selling the bodybugg with the display for $253.80. They were offering 3 months easy pay but I missed that promotion. With QVC, you get 30 days to try it out and if you don't like it you can return it.

So I bought it. This is my first week. I also went and bought the fitbit to compare the two. This is my first full day with the fitbit. The bodybugg I started using on Sunday.
I am not crazy about either web interface.

Also I notice with the bodybugg that the display doesn't show the same calorie burned that gets uploaded to the web site. For instance, my display said yesterday I burned 3180 calories, but when I look at what I did yesterday in the web interface it said I burned 3381.

Now both places are getting its data from the armband, so the fact that they aren't the same is a bit irritating. However, I will see if that trend holds up. Yesterday was the first that I notice this discrepancy occuring.

Saundra, I have been curious about the fitbit, my only complaint, and reason I don't use my gowearfit often is because I don't like the way it feels on my arm all the time and the fitbit just clipping to your pants is awesome.

If you don't mind, let us know how the fitbit works out for you. The only negative I heard so far is that it barely registers anything when you are lifting weights, not sure if that's true, it's just what I heard.

Thanks!

Not to highjack this post, but I too am interested in the Fitbit. I think the fact that it is smaller and can be worn more discreetly appeals to me over the BodyBugg/GoWearFit armband.

Dela, I would say that it is true about the weight lifting. I did a weight base workout yesterday and it barely register any activity - certainly not as much as the bodybugg.

I bought the Fitbit from Best Buy. It is small.
In comparing it to the BodyBugg, you don't realize you are wearing it. That is both good and bad because you can loose it without being aware of it.

I heard that happen to someone. Yesterday I forgot I moved it from being clip on my waist to being clip on my shirt. So I thought I had lost if for a second.

My issue with the fitbit is that it doesn't have a trip setting or I haven't found it yet. I like the trip setting on the bodybugg because I can set it for each individual workout setting.

Now yesterday, I had the fitbit clip to my waist and then I moved it to my shirt. So comparing the two - the bodybugg showed about 300 calories more burned, but now that I think about it - they could have been the difference in not registering the weight work I did.

Today I am wearing the fitbit around my wrist using the wristband and currently it is showing 100 calories burn more than the bodybugg.

Thank you for the detailed reply! So I guess if you take it with a grain of salt when you are lifting, it's probably pretty similar.

Ok, so now I have to figure if it's time for another purchase :D

And I'm getting close to sending in the email to cancel my GWF. Going back to the OP, they should just have a way to cancel online without email, in essence, they are making it just slightly more difficult and extending contracts by doing so. I had a similar experience with an LA Fitness memberships, you know I'm still angry about that one, I think I'll start a new thread for it. :p
