Can you do anything besides Cathe?

I'm finding that I really can't! Her workouts are just so professional and well-done, and a proven product. She makes me wanna work - and DVDs are great.

However, I feel myself caving and wanting some new workouts. I look over the CIAs and wonder if they are up to snuff - folks are kind of lukewarm on a lot of them. I have one Christi Taylor vid that frustrates me choreographically - although she seems really sweet. About the only thing I pop in every once in a while is a Janis Saffrell kickbox video, Intense Moves and sometimes Tae Bo.

Any ideas for branching out a little? I will stay true to Cathe :) but until there are new workouts I want to see what else is out there.

I have wasted more money in the last year then I even want to think about.I have ordered videos from Karen Voight and another video by someone else and they say that they are advanced videos...blah,blah,blah.I BARELY break a sweat.
Last night I was looking through the videos I have and i was considering trying one of the videos that I have only done once and then I was like, why bother? I get fustrated b/c I feel like I am wasting time.
I love Cathe. My sister and I have ALL of her videos and I can't wait for her to put out more. You KNOW when you buy her videos that you are getting your moneies worth and you are going to get a HARD work out.
I am posioned b/c the new videos are out and I am going away next Sunday for 10 days so if I order the videos now I don't think they will be here before I leave. And then I won't want to go away lol.Maybe I will order them while i am away so that when I come back they will be here....now that was a wonderful idea.
Anyway, I don't think you are the only who feels this way.The only other video I have been pleased woth is PowerStrike, Thanks to you fine people. We will just have to be patient.

I think I am convinced that the Powerstrikes will be worth owning. Other than that, I only do Cathe, Gin Miller's Intense Moves, and running, spinning, aqua-aerobics type stuff. I have some Firms still but I never use them. I should just sell them.

The only videos I do that I feel are worthwhile besides Cathe are my two Powerstrike videos, CIA's Powerbar Training, my Mindy Mylrea videos in particular Action Packed and Slammin Sports Cardio, Gin Miller's Intense Moves and when I need something a tad lighter intensity wise I pop in Kathy Smith's Power Step. I have the CTX upper body planned for today, cant wait!

When I got back into step aerobics that was he first tape that I bought.(keli)I really enjoyed it and at the time it was advanced enough for me.I never use it anymore b/c I always think that it isn't going to be hard enough anymore.Maybe I should pop it in some day.
I like Mindy to.I have extreme inteervals.I only do it when I can tolerate her.She is just way to hyper. Can anyone be that energetic without medication????

Well, I was going to suggest Christi Taylor, but you mentioned that her choreography frustrates you...which one have you tried? Still Jumpin' is not too hard to learn for most people--but I'm not a good judge because I get all of her stuff on the first try. I used to be in an "all Cathe" rut, and then I found Christi, and I was in and "all Christi" rut (for cardio only). I still only do Cathe strength--all of her stuff is so complete and she is just the absolute best. Getting out of the Christi rut was hard--I still haven't found anyone who does cardio as well as she does. But, here are some of the videos I have recently picked up:
G-Force: Super Step (really fun, pretty intense)
CIA 9905: Franny Bendetto
CIA 2k05: Cardio Parties (Franny)
CIA 9702: Step, KB and Funk (the step portion is pretty good, this one is Jannis Saffel--I don't do the other portions)
CIA 9701: Donna Read Step Workout (much slower tempo than Cathe, but you could use it as a lighter day)
CIA 2K04: Kicked up Step (strange but fun, not too intense)

I got all of these through trades on videofitness.com. What a great deal. I got rid of tapes I never use, and get to try something new! I love it.
Mind you, none of these are the intensity of Cathe, but I need more complex choreography than she offers. Most of these are more complex than Cathe (excluding Stepworks and Rhythmic Step), but they are not as smooth, well-rehearsed, well-cued or as perfect as any of her stuff. You have to give up those things if you want a little variety!
Good luck,
Wendy

This is a Thoughtful Thread..

I will answer this way:
1. as a healthy rule--Cathe is all I would do, besides a few other kickbox and some Mindy Mylrea
2. You should keep Pilates and Yoga in your life somehow: Precision Toning; whatever yoga turns you on
3. BUT--you should keep some Emergency tapes on hand for injuries and low energy days--such as Charlene Prickett,Kari Anderson, Kelli Roberts, Karen Voight--whomever you like!!!

But, now that I am almost back to full strength--I have incorporated a few Firms--and have tossed them Out.They are (for me)not a good use of time. Murph

LAST EDITED ON Aug-12-02 AT 08:28AM (Est)[p]For a while there, I only did Cathe, but now I've opened up to all kinds of other workouts. Cathe is #1 on my list, but if I did *only* Cathe from now on, she'd cease to be my favorite. And, I can't have that!!!!!

For me it's variety for wts and cardio or I get bored. I won't even list the 'others' that I have, cuz I'm afraid ya'll will lose all respect for me...LOL.

RE: This is a Thoughtful Thread..

I like Kelli Roberts' Ultimate step. It isn't advanced but the music and the production is excellent. I love the music in this video it seems more suited to step aerobics. It is very hard to get into using other workouts now! Why waste time when Cathe can get the job done faster? I guess we need variety though to keep things fresh...so I hope she makes more! I want CTX eventually. I only have LL and PC and PC is such an awesome workout that the whole series must be a total blast! That single workout amazes me...how can she kill you so bad in such a short time? It even has abs!!!

RE: This is a Thoughtful Thread..

I am so guilty of over-doing Cathe. I totally agree that I think to myself, I know I'll get a great workout with Cathe...why bother with something else? But a once-in-a-while something else is nice, too. I really have to force myself to learn it or I keep saying "I won't feel worked out...." Haven't been too good with that lately, I still have the CIA and the Christi DVD's and I really don't use them. Pretty bad, huh? I know there is some good stuff in there, I see others raving on VF. Maybe what I need is some dedicated time each week to force myself to go thru some of these new ones and learn them. If it was "extra" time in addition to the workout for that day, I can probably be happy with it. Now just to find the time! Right.

I do primarily Cathe's weight tapes and the cardio kickboxing/ctx kickboxing (step isn't my thing and I have a bum knee). I rarely do anyone else's workout, except an occasional Aaron Lankford PowerKicks or Taebo Live Vol. 6 or Cory's GHAS. If I had to do anyone else, it'd be Gilad. I'd love to get his series to rotat with Cathe, but until it's DVD, I'm holding out. As far as I'm concerned, Cathe is the best.
