Can we talk about wine??

This is going to sound so stupid... Do any of you love wine like I do?? I work out religiously and vigorously and am very fit. If I have one glass of wine in the evening it's no problem and is absorbed just fine. But any more than that and I make poor food choices, suddenly think it's a great idea to eat dessert, then wear it all around my middle for the next several days until I can work it off. That, of course, infuriates me and makes me increase the intensity of my workouts to an immoderate level and things spiral down in general. Clearly, moderation is key. But this weakness for good wine is powerful!! There is a bizarre little drama going on inside my head: hardbody goddess of the universe vs. enjoying the good life with fine wine.... Is anyone else out there experiencing this?x(

Charlotte

Are you kidding? You are not alone or bizzare! I can eat and workout perfect all day then sabatoge my efforts with a glass or 2 of social wine.

Many people will tell you that it's OK to drink wine but if you're like me and start to experience that happy feeling that almost always leads to dietary indescretion- then I'd think twice. I finally switched my efforts to drinking a gallon of water a day and limiting my wine to one night (Friday!!!)per week. This has helped my efforts to change my body composition tremendously.

Alcohol also has the most dense caloric composition, it in essence forcres the body to burn the alcohol first while all the other calories fall in line behind...and get stored as FAT.

Cheers!

oh sweetie!

I so love my wine! Wine Zin, Blush, etc. I love them all! I wish I could just drink a glass without desiring more! Most nights I have at least 2, if not 3 glasses.

On a side note, I run 25 miles a week, do 3 aerobic workouts a week and 3 strength workouts a week. I just love my wine:)

Me too!!! Love them all....jeeze first the bagels, now this! I'm a crisp white drinker, sauvignon blac, my favorite. And yes, more than a glass and I am ready for dessert....all inhibitions go right out the window.(food wise, that is) Isn't an occasional glass supposed to be good for you?? I would drink it with all my meals, but alas, I do not work out enough to be able to do that....so I only have a glass or two on the weekend. Hey, I honeymooned in Napa Valley 15 years ago......you know I love my wine(and my dh of course!!)

Donna

Yup, I'm right there with you, Charlotte. But nothing could ever convince me to give up my wine. Like Donna, sauvignon blanc is my favorite, and I love it with fish dishes. Sure, I go home and eat too much ice cream, but it's low-fat ice cream, so there's some built-in damage control.

Life would simply not be worth living to me without wine, and that's that.

Hi Charlotte!!
I hear you! I just love my wine! Red wine is my favorite. I'm actually sipping a glass of rioja from Spain! I could drink wine everynight, but I find as I am getting older 41, it is increasing my girth. I work out at least 6 days a week and i am fit, but it seems to go right to the waistline. I have to admit if I have more than one glass I will just eat and eat and eat. So I am trying to just drink on weekends and special occasions (like when my neighbor calls up and says " is it 5 o'clock yet?")
So you are not alone in the battle of hardbody goddess( never will be there for me) vs enjoying the good life (good life wins hands down).

You guys are too cool... I was thinking about how we can make it chic to have a "wine athlete's physique." Killer legs and butt, deadly arms and shoulders, tremendous endurance and A CUTE LITTLE WINE POOCH}(

Every time I get disgusted at backwards progress due to that wonderful wine and think I will give it up - at least during the week - I wake up and say, "no way!!" So glad to hear I'm not alone!

I love a glass or 2 of red wine. Lately I've been enjoying Wolfe Blass Cabernet Sauvignon and trying different Australian Shiraz's but my staple is Masi Modello Delle Venezie '04. If anyone finds a cache of Masi Campfiorni 1999 please let me know, it's just the best and a sentimental favourite! I try to curb my intake for dietary reasons as well but I do love a nip of dark chocolate with red wine:9 :+ Aaaaah....life's small pleasures....

Take Care
Laurie:)

I really enjoy red wine, too!!! I found when I was running a few years ago, I couldn't drink the evening before I wanted to run. Since I was running 5 days a week, I've really cut back. Now, it's only Friday and Saturday nights, since I can work out later (and rehydrate) in the day on Saturday and Sunday.

DH was born and raised in Napa, so he knows all about different wines. It's pretty cool! My love of wine is all his fault... }( :9

Hey Laurie,

dark chocolate, red wine...could we have been separated at birth?:9 ;-)

ETA: BTW, I knew I'd find Nancy and Amy in here.

Count me in with all the wine lovers! Red, white, I'll drink any of it! Alas, I too am showing the effects of aging and imbibing. Lately I have drastically cut down on my sipping and it is showing (hurray!). And I also am guilty of letting go of my food inhibitions after one glass (no dancing on the tables for me, it's cheese and chocolate thank you very much!)

Aahhh, just thinking about is making me want to go and pop a cork.

Cheers everyone!

So far my best vacations have been in Italy and Napa...yes, I'm a wine lover.

If I just stick with the wine and don't indulge in the food indescretions that so easily come with it, I'm fine. I have found that for me, personally, my body, wine does not cause fat gain. It's the food that can come with it that does. I stick with the wine, and eat the morning after.

It's a bit sad, but if I'm going to have a fab glass or two of red, it makes hunger worthwhile!

I've been looking for a Mochavero Puteus...a red with an amazing berry finish. Found it once, and have been unable to locate it since. If you find a bottle, please let me know!

:)

I am also a red wine lover!!! Australian Merlot is currently at the top of my list!! Add chocoolate or cheese and yep...trouble!!

I have to limit to Fri and Sat nights because I know it inhibits my weight loss and even my workouts during the week.

I would love, love, love to go to Italy someday!

Yes I do enjoy wine on a weekend. I generally remind myself that if I have wine, I won't have dessert or bread. period. I do make exceptions, like when Allwild girl and Buffetgirl came to visit.

***but a single small piece of dark chocolate is heavenly with some wines. If it is only a single piece, I allow it. But, I only do this once or twice a week.

Oh I'm right there with you guys! I also have limited my wine intake to one night on the weekend, and it has made a tremendous difference. We use to drink, ahem, a bit more, especially after honeymooning in New Zealand and acquiring such a refined palate ;) Cheers!

Please don't talk wine///
My mouth is watering. I gave it up 2 weeks ago to try to loose this last 17 lbs. After watching calories and not loosing, I am blaming my nightly wine.I want to loose more and lean out before the beach. I put my suit on and I look better than last year, but want to look great....
Oh, the scale is now moving again...
God I love my wine...

That sounds just like me. I love to have a glass of red wine now and then.

What is life without a glass of good wine?}( }( I had my DH buy me a wine cellar. It is stocked, and i enjoy opening it and choosing a bottle. I have wine mostly every night, and enjoy it ! I also do killer workouts, and try not to indulge in anything else after dinner. I sometimes wonder what I would look like if I didn't enjoy wine. I may look a little slimmer, but I probably wouldn't be enjoying life!:p :p
Ann Marie

I live 90 minutes from Napa Valley. I love a good wine. I'm not particular. I love a crisp clear Chardonnay on a hot summer day, or a nice mellow pinot noir with salmon. A full bodied Merlot or Cab hits the spot on a cold winter day...

I do try not to drink during the week, as I have also noticed the uninhibited eating that accompanies my partaking of a good wine. But, like Ann Marie, this is give and take. I'm 41 and have about 20 pounds that I could lose. I'm in excellent shape, just have that extra 20 pounds hanging around. I don't look bad - in fact I look better than most of my contemporaries. Yeah it would be nice to be 41 and able to wear a bikini, but that's probably not in the cards. My DH loves me the way I am, and my DD17 has said that her friends think I'm the prettiest mom. I'll continue to try to improve, but if these 20 pounds hang around with me for the rest of my life, I can't complain. I'm discovering that life if a matter of balance.

EVERY TIME I read the title of this thread, I think "why just talk about it?? Let's pop that cork and DRINK!" :p
