I'm sure I'm slow in having finally figuring this out, but I noticed since I started doing STS Cardio that I'm not as tired as I was three weeks ago. I could never figure out why I always was so extremely tired. I got to thinking about it tonight and realized I was doing at least 60 minutes of intense cardio 5 times a week sometimes more and my weight workouts 3x a week and always felt very tired. And since I started Cathe's January sts rotation I havent felt tired at all. Even though I will add a cardio w/o in on weight days or a little extra on her cardio days I'm still not doing as much as I was previously. I don't know why I never figured this out before. Am I right about maybe doing too much cardio was making me tired?

Yes.

yes. and, make sure you are getting a protein source in you within 20-40 minutes after your workout to promote the greatest muscle recovery. Are you taking a full day off every week? You need a full day off to recover.

That was another thing I wasnt doing I was working out everyday, But the last couple of weeks I have taken 1 day off and I can tell the difference. Thanks for responding! Lori

i try to keep variety in my cardio. i do my set workouts with running and kickbox etc but i also add a day or two of dance cardio, walking, or bellydancing so i am still able to do a lot more but the variety keeps me from getting tired and burnt out. i also change up length and intensity. so some days i might do 20 min of cardio some days more but its broken up over the day as well not just in one session.

just doing something for fun i count as cardio like dancing but not an actual scheduled workout

Actually, carbs are needed more than protein right after intense exercise (recommendations vary as to the most effective 'window,' but within 20 minutes seems like the concensus, with ASAP being best) to replenish glycogen so that the body can move from a catabolic (breaking-down) state to an anabolic (building up) state which will promote the use of ingested protein for muscle repair (I've seen both 2 to 1--most often---and 4 to 1 ratios of carbs-to-protein recommended).

Then, have a higher-protein feeding maybe two hours later.

They beat me to it but yes!! Also, if you weren't compensating in your fuel intake ie eats then that could compound it too. I used to do 7 days a week then went down to 6 and now I'm at about 5. I was tired too. (Ok. I'm still tired, but I think thats the other medical issues)
