Can I step everyday??

Learning to step! I hated step workout but Cathe's looks so much fun so I decided to try it!

It is lodsa fun but it's taking me forever to learn the moves.

Is it okay to step everyday? Obviously I don't finish the entire routine in body max but so far managed to keep up 20 minutes with lotsa break to study the moves.

Please if anyone can answer this.
Thanks!

Hi, Shaan! You probably can step every day for the short-term, to learn the moves and how step works for you, but I wouldn't recommend it as a day-in-day-out workout protocol for several reasons. Your body will get bored doing the same-oh-same-oh after awhile, and when your body gets bored you'll get bored, and either just be phoning in your workout or blowing it off altogether.

Plus, you'll run the risk of some overuse injuries, particularly to the knees and hip flexors, over time if you do step day in and day out, especially if you work off of a higher platform.

Cathe's got lotsa good workouts for step, hi/lo and kickboxing - check 'em out!

Just my $.02

I agree 100% with Annette's advice. As hooked on step as you can get, it really is better to "mix it up." It's better for several reasons, for one, like Annette already said, you WILL eventually get bored with doing the same type of cardio day in day out, but by adding in a day of hi/lo, and a day of kickboxing each week, not only are you offering your body some different challenges, you'll be keeping your own interest peaked! Plus, challenging your body/muscles with different forms of cardio can only benefit you in the long term.
Just my .02 :)

I had this same question, because I really love Cathe's step tapes and am finding that I don't want to do any other type of cardio.

The answers that you've gotten make sense and I'm also going to make sure that I 'mix it up', although I really could step exclusively!

try not to

I was like you a few years ago- I found Cathe and was hooked. I remember doing it 6 days a week and I had to force myself to rest for a day (boy, I wish that was still the case!!)

Anyway, after awhile, I became bored with step in general. I had done it so much that it wasn't as challenging and I wasn't seeing improvement. There's not many step tapes as advanced as Cathe. It really stinks not wanting to exercise! So my advice is, even though you think you'll love it forever, mix it up and don't do it so many days. Add some running, yoga, kickboxing, hi/lo, walking, spinning, or a cardio machine. I'm extra careful now not to do any one thing too much because I want to always enjoy it.

Also, when I did step all the time, my left knee started to ache. I'm small boned so that could've been a problem too. It stinks even more when you have to rest for awhile and do NO cardio because of an overuse injury. This is another reason to mix up your workouts and give your body enough rest.

Good luck!!

RE: try not to

Hello; do you have any other suggestions on different cardio routines. I do step tapes, run and walk on my treadmill and I think my body is at a plateau but I cant think of any other cardio to shock my body.
