Calories needed for putting on muscle

Now I may put this in the Ask Cathe form to, just to see what she may say, if she has an opportunity to respond. I read in a Muscle and Fitness Hers that in order to add muscle mass depending on what point your starting from, I'm doing the hardcore routation and I want to add to my muscle you need to increase your calories by 200 a day, I think that is because of how much you burn off when your working out. Here I was thinking that I've increased my calories enough but to my surprise that wasn't the case. Does this sound about right to anyone else? You personal trainers out there or just those of you who have added muscle on successfully?

I read in a few places in general terms to lose weight/gain definition to eat 10-12 times your body weight, ie. if you weight 130 lbs eat 1300-1560 cals (if I did my math right!) and that to gain muscle to eat about 15-18 times your body weight. I'm not trying to gain muscle so I havent tried that end of the scale yet, but I do know that when I consistently eat 10-12x my bw in cals I start looking more lean.

I want to thank the both of you for your responses. I did go to that website and it was very helpful, thank you.
