I would love to share my story. I decided I needed a new challenge after running 4 marathons including Boston and New York. I can run forever and enjoy biking but swimming was a whole different ball of wax. I had one of my students teach me how to swim and would do laps for about 30 minutes 3 days per week for about 2 months. Then I would run 4 days per week and bike 3 days per week. On Sundays I would bike 20 miles and then run 3 or 4 miles. That was one of the toughest parts...the transition.
The tri was near Watertown, NY. The swim was in a bay of Lake Ontario in crystal clear water. I thought the swim was the hardest part because I would get stuck behind slower swimmers and it would be hard to pass them. It is not like passing on a bike or during a run. I also had to flip over and do the backstroke a couple of times. The bike ride was about 19 miles and then the run was 4 miles. I figured I would do the event in about 2 hours 10 minutes and it took me 2 hours 7 mins. The swim took a little longer than I planned but the bike was faster.
Two days later I went back in the pool and still felt kind of tired but I did not know that I was about 1 week pregnant at the time. Needless to say I have been busy this summer and have only been running and riding my bike. I have even subbed some step workouts for runs.
I will probably do another one at some point. It is a fun experience.
