Calling all pregnant ladies

letswork

Cathlete
I'm 15 weeks along with my second pregnancy and I'm gaining weight waaaay too fast (again!). I'm already up 12 pounds...ugh! I've been trying everything to keep it in check and thought maybe having a weekly check-in on the forum would be a good way to keep me in line and hear about everyone else's journies. I did this during my last pregnancy for a while and thought it was a wonderful way to share ideas, tips, struggles, accomplishments and goals. Besides, this forum has been a little slow lately.

Nothing formal, just share the ups and downs of the week (Sat-Fri)

Sat - no workout
Sun - Hi/Lo Heaven (section one)
Mon - no workout
Tues - Pyramid Upper Body (no floor work)
Wed - Interval Max 2 (low impact and modified, of course)
Thurs - no workout
Friday - Body Pump

I do pretty well with my eating during the day, but the nights are completely doing me in. I ate three slices of Pizza Hut pan pizza and a huge bowl of chocolate peanut-butter ice cream last night. The night before that it was two chocolate cupcakes and a fluffernutter sandwich. I don't know why I'm overindulging so much and I can't seem to help myself. I'm making myself sick.

Well, this upcoming week I'm going to make it my goal to stop eating after having a healthy well-portioned dinner. No more JUNK!!! NO more late night snacking. No more overindulging. I'm also ready to increase the frequency, intensity and duration of my workouts now that the first trimester energy drain is over. I think we can all agree that you feel so much better when you exercise!

Whew, I'm glad I got all of that off my chest and made my goals public. Now I feel a little pressure to follow through. When I feel like slipping up, I'll know that I have to check in next week. Anyone else feel like sharing? Who's with me? I hope everyone is doing well.

*due November 1st with baby #2 (don't know gender...yet)

*married Sept 2000 and hopelessly in love with my husband David

Is it scary that Cathe came before my hubby on the list????? Hmmmmm.

Hi Angela,

I'm in! I so hear you with the weight issues. I gained 65, 65, 60 with my 3 kids!!! I lost a lot of the weight but am still much more overweight than I would like. I NEVER had a weight issue before kids. My Dr. told me that I should aim for 15-25 lbs this time since I'm overweight to start with and try and maintain my weight until at least 13 or 14 weeks. This is tough since I have a history of gaining 15 lbs my first trimester. But I'm 8 weeks now and hanging in there. I have actually lost 2 since I'm being so careful and don't feel very good.

I got in 3 workouts this week which is good considering how I feel.

Sun- Cathe step heat
Wed. treadmill walking/jog 40 minutes
Fri- 20 minutes of Cathe step heat (got dizzy had to stop) then later n the day walked outside for 30 minutes

I would not worry about the weight you have gained, you can't do anything about it now, just be careful.

I really like your plan of no junk. Junk is what did me in with the first 3. I kept craving McDonalds quater lber with cheese and fries LOL!! I would send my DH and he got embarrased going there after a while.

Do you want to have a no-junk support check in with the weight check in??

Oh, I'm due December 15.

Are you going to find out the gender of your baby??

I am having an amnio 7/1 because of my age but as a bonus, I'll know 8 days later what I'm having.

I already have a 6 year old boy, 3 year old girl, and 10 month old boy. I'm gonna be busy!!

Marci

Hi Marci

Thanks for checking in with me, it REALLY, REALLY HELPS. I found that the minute I posted on Friday, I felt committed and compelled to see my goals through. I had a great weekend, even with a huge Mother's Day brunch I managed to eat sensibly and pass up dessert. A huge accomplishment in my book.

I, too, have a love/hate relationship with Ronald McDonald. I've finally realized that he's just an evil clown who always makes me feel yucky. Maybe if I stick to my guns, I'll allow myself one visit for some fries in a few weeks.

Sounds like you ARE going to be one busy lady. I simply cannot fathom four children! When my days get hectic, I'll think of you and realize my life is a breeze in comparison.

I know you posted about an amnio and I wanted you to know that I'm getting one this Thursday and I'll be happy to report back. I'm scared too, but have faith that it's the right decision and the doctor is highly recommended. And yes, my husband and I are going to find out the sex. We are far too nosey to have it be a surprise.

Great "talking" with you. Please keep posting and keeping me in line. We can check in again on Friday afternoon. I hope you have a great (and junk free) week.

RE: Hi Marci

Hi this is Debbie and I'm 19 weeks along. I would love to join your weight/workout check in group. Hopefully, it will inspire me to eat better. I was doing OK through week 17, I had gained 14 (less than my 1st 2 pregnancies) but then we went on vacation and I gained 5 lbs in one week!! Now at week 19 I'm up a depressing 20 lbs. I'm keeping up with the exercise - low to mid intensity and weights put I can't resist the sweets. Maybe having to check in with you will help me be strong when I'm facing the big bag of M&Ms my hubby just brought home.

RE: Hi Marci

Debbie,
20 lbs is not bad, you still can gain 15 and stay within recommended weights. I think at least 2 lbs of EACH of my first kids were m & m's LOL!!!

Angela, great decription, ronald McDonald is an evil clown!!

Please do post about your amnio experience. The Dr. makes the differrence from what I have heard. Mine has tons of expereince, plus he is a nice guy and very comforting. I trust him, but its a scary test.

Are you going to find out the gender??

Marci

I'd like to join in here. Well, I am 23 weeks, and I have already gained about 24 pounds! I recently had my ultrasound, and we're having a boy. Plus they said he is way bigger than is normal. Either that means his due date is wrong and he's coming early (which is my hope!) or he's going to be huge. But I know exactly when my last period was, so I'm probably not as lucky as I'm hoping.

Anyway, my workout check-in goes something like this:

Mon-Power Hour
Tues-Energy Sprint
Wed-Power Hour
Thur-Totally Cool Step
Fri-Cardio & Weights
Sat-too lazy!
Sun-rest
Mon(Today)-Energy Sprint

Likewise, I am not doing so well in the food department. For example, I made the brownies from Barefoot Contessa this past weekend. I ate a bunch of them - and they have a pound of butter in them and almost 2 pounds of chocolate! My butt feels a little more jiggly! Well, my main problem is being too tired to cook. And, being a vegetarian, that is a bad thing. If I'm not consciously planning my meals, I won't get enough protein. Changing this is my goal. Lack of protein is probably why I am feeling so tired.

Anyway, I'm glad you started this thread.

Hi Emily!

My first baby (also a boy) they also told me he was big to date. But like you I was SURE of my period. First babies are usually late and everyone told me to not expect to give birth by my due date. Anyway, he was born 8 days BEFORE my due date :) at a healthy 8 lbs 1 oz. So you never know!!

Sweets are my weakness when pregnant too. This time I am feeling really really sick but with my first 3 kids I told my DH if they grow up loving chocolate they can blame me because of all the junk I ate when pregnant with them!!

Marci

Welcome Debbie and Emily. Thanks for checking in. It is so helpful to know that there are other women out there dealing with the same issues...and the same temptations.

Debbie, I'm already worried about going on vacation with my husband's family this summer. They are notorious for having TONS of naughty junk food around...donuts, chips, cookies, etc. I hope to have everything in control by then or it will send me over the edge. Is this your first baby?

Emily, it sounds like you are really doing great with your exercise! I'm hoping to kick my exercise up a notch, but with an active 15-month-old boy at home, it's sometimes hard to find the time.

Anyone have names picked yet?

I am currently 21 weeks. As of my doctor's visit today I have gained 10 pounds and feel good. Don't know yet if I'm having a boy or a girl. Ultrasound is scheduled for Friday. I've been lucky, no morning sickness and have worked almost everyday since becoming pregnant.
This week's workouts so far:
Sunday-zumba-adv.
Monday-firm-upper body+cardio sculpt blaster
Tuesday-firm-standing legs
My plan for tomorrow is cathe's wedding tape-step portion modified low(Haven't tried this tape pregnant yet). Thurday will be a toming day maybe total body shaping mix. Don't know yest about the rest of the week.

RE: Hi Marci

Hey Marci, I went to the doc today and I guess it wasn't quite as bad as I thought. He had the weight total increase at 18lbs and I'm now 19 1/2 weeks. Maybe I was retaining water after vaca? We are having a boy. After the blood tests and ultrasound went well we decided against an amnio even though I'm 37. The baby looks very healthy and my risk of downs seems to be low (according to the tests). Let me know how the amnio goes.

Hey letswork, this is baby #3!! I'm sure I'm insane to have another one but I just couldn't help it. My heart overruled my head and my husband has always been so sure that we would have three. I guess it was just destiny. I have a 6 year old girl and a 4 year old boy. This one is a boy and we can't agree on a name yet. Oh well, we still have lots of time.

Hello to all:
I feel completely stupid. Every time I hit the backspace button, my message dissapears and I don't know how to get it back. So I hope I didn't multiple post this or anything.

Anyway, I am 23weeks pregnant with my 5th child and although I am too afraid to stand on the scales I can just feel that I have gained way to much weight already. In prior pregnancies, I gained 60, 65, 65, and 80 (truly scary I know). I lost it all the first three times, but with baby number four, they found a heart defect and I was too scared to exercise. I became entirely sedentary and ate out of anxiety the whole rest of the pregnancy. Because of complications after my little guy was born, I was not able to lose all of the weight. So I started out pregnancy number 5 about 30 lbs overweight.

But this time I have been diligently exercising since the beginning and trying much harder than I usually do to eat well. I decided that even if there were complications with this baby, that I was going to stay in the habit of working out unless the Doctor told me not to.

Anyway, I have had an ultrasound and everything looked good this time.

OK- My eating this week was not very good so my goal over the next week is to really cut down on portion sizes and sweets.

My Workout Schedule over the last week was:
Thu: Rythmic Step on a 4"step, PS Back
Fri: 30 min stationary bike, PS Biceps
Sat: MIS legs, Rythmic Step on a 4"step
Sun: 35 min stationary bike, PS Chest
Mon: Rythmic Step on a 4"step, PS shoulders
Tue: 30 min stationary bike, PS triceps
Wed: Rest

Now I need to get off this forum and go do SLA, although frankly I don't really feel like it:).

It was nice reading about everyone's new babies and that I am not the only one that struggles with feeling intensly hungry. I look forward to next week's check in.

Bye, all

Letswork...I think this checkin is such a good idea. I am not even pregnant yet (but actively trying;) and will start checkin in. I need all the help I can get to stay focused!

I just posted a thread on this preggo board to introduce myself. I gained a ton of wt w/my first pregnancy and am determined not to let the same thing happen this time. I have still not lost all my wt and am kinda scared about packin' even more on! ;(

Amy-what is it about Ronald McDonald that gets to us??? I usually HATE McDonalds and RARELY eat it! However, when I was preggo w/the first angel I craved it all the time! I really hope this time I crave chicken, carrots, salad, yogurt etc. ha ha ha

I have been doing Body for Life the past 12 weeks and plan to continue the menu to some degree as it is extremely healthy. However, need to probably change up my training program a bit once I do finally get preggo.

Look forward to getting to know you fellow preggers!

Hi everyone!

I posted a few days ago about my new state (which was a total surprise btw). I'm 8 weeks along with a due date January 12th 2004. I was very nauseated until 2 days ago when I started taking Diclectin. I feel alot better now, but I am so so so tired. Just getting through my work days is a struggle. So, I haven't been able to workout in almost 2 weeks.

I hope I can start up soon, I also gained a lot of weight with the last pregnancy, and I don't want to go down that path again!

Finally, someone with time to go!

Hi Janik! It's so nice to read about someone who is so close to my due date! My due date is about January 24th. I'm not feeling too pregnant yet. We've told closest family & friends, but noone else to date. We're so excited! Our first and only child is 9 years old, so it's like starting over again! I plan on continuing with my normal exercise routine (Cathe, running, weights, & kickboxing) as long as I can. My biggest fear is that I gain too much weight, so I'm watching what I eat. I"m taking my pre-natal vitamins & eating 3 square meals a day. Lots of milk, fruit and veggies.

If you have a chance, I'd love to hear from you!:)

RE: Finally, someone with time to go!

Hi Melanalyus!

I've been kinda out of the loop. The nausea was better last week, but has kinda come back, even with medications this week.

I wish I could eat well, but I just can't. I eat what I think I can stomach, and that's not much... No cravings, just having to force feed myself, which is not a good feeling.

I have only worked out once in the last 2 weeks. I'm so tired and nauseated, that I just can't get into it.

I'm kinda scared that after some time of inactivity, I won't be able to get back into an adequate fitness routine (just like the last pregnancy).

I'm really bummed out right now.

RE: Finally, someone with time to go!

Janik! Just out of curiousity, what type of medicine are you taking for your nausea? I don't want to get out of the loop with exercise either. I"ve been exercising for 5 years now-- any where from 4-6 days a week. I"m forcing myself to workout 4 days a week, even if it's just for 30 minutes. I do feel better on days I workout. I even have more energy (more is better than none). I look forward to 2nd trimester...that's for sure!

RE: Finally, someone with time to go!

I'm taking a drug called Diclectin. I had to take it during my last pregnancy also, where I was suffering from hyperemesis. It helps with nausea, but not aversion to food, and like any nausea medication it makes you feel drowzy. I need to take the maximum dose (ie 4 tablets a day) in order to be able to function. But, because of that I sleep a lot!

I have to try and get something done as far as working out. Maybe I should aim for 30 minutes a day of light activity instead of 3-4 days a week of moderate to intense activity. I was also on a schedule of 5-6 days a week before pregnancy (I was also in the midst of training for a half marathon, it was scheduled for tomorrow... not doing it now!)

RE: Finally, someone with time to go!

I haven't heard of that drug. Wow! Hyperemesis is pretty serious. Here I am complaining about a little nausea & fatigue and you've had major stuff going on over there! I think I'm going to do a 10K next weekend, that way if I don't feel well in July I won't feel like such a failure. I hold such high standards on myself.

I was planning on working out today, but I went to a couple garage sales & got a few baby/maternity things. With a baby coming in January--I'll have to get all the items in the summer when the garage sales are in full force!
