Butt walks

Okay everyone,
Who remembers from the 70's the exercise "butt walks"? I don't know what triggered this memory, but my step mom used to do this exercise when I was about 12 years old. Of course this would take place after warming up on her standing "motorized belt" (the machine that you would stand on with a vibrating belt around your waist) decked out in her matching red tights and body suit. She would then proceed to do "butt walks" around the basement after being throughly warmed up from the vibrating belt machine. (Does anyone remember the real name for that machine)? How are these performed you ask? Well, you sit on the floor with your legs extended straight out in front of you and move foward using your butt to "walk" around the room.

Well, I decided to re-live that old memory, and you know what? These things are hard!! It really works the booty, inner thighs and stomach. I did 3 rounds around my living room and I felt it. Hmmm, maybe butt walks should be revived. I think I will give them a shot for the next few weeks just to see what happens. I am sure they are entertaining for onlookers to watch ;) >

Does anyone else remember this?

Rhonda

Okay, I will admit I used to do butt walks. We learned them in high school gym class back in the late 60's.

I may just try them again myself.:7

I don't remember "Butt Walks", but my grandmother had one of those vibrating belt machines. That thing was too funny.

Oh how funny, I remember butt walks too. I used to do them! Isnt it funny how things have changed so much since then? I remember the belt machine you are talking about too. My friend's mother had one. I never could use it because it shook my internal organs too much (and HURT). :p

Oh my heavens, that is funny!!! I have never been introduced to butt walks, but think that might also be a great way to get in a thorough round of kegels?

Too funny! I have never heard of these before, but I had a mental image of us all scooting across the floor on our behinds like dogs do when they're trying to scratch themselves :)

I remember butt walks. I can remember my mother doing them. I was probably 7 or 8 years old. I will have to tell her this when we go running today, she will crack up!

I did those in high school back in the seventies. They really do work your glutes and they changed the shape of my butt. I may just try them again.

Thanks for the waslk down memory lane.

Okay, I guess I am telling my age, but I remember VIVIDLY doing "butt-walks"!!! Hmmm, I have a class this afternoon. I may just get the courage up to bring them BACK! Maybe we can hold dumbells out in front. OUCH! Rhonda, thanks for taking me down Memory Lane.

I remember them too! How funny...I'm going to have to try them again now! However, take my advice & wear pants you don't much care about cause I remember ruining a pair way back then.

Ruth:)

Nancy!

A butt walk: sit on the floor with both legs extended straight out in front of you on the floor. Hold both arms straight out then, move one foot forward as you pick that same side "cheek" up (& you KNOW what cheek I'm talking about!) and then lower your cheek and move the other foot forward using that cheek. You kind of rock side-to-side as you move along. I actually did them in class today. My students were roaring! One yelled out, "I hope no one walks in while we are doing these!" We also held one dumbbell out in front. It actually made us breathless. We went forward 8 "walks" and then, backed up 8 "walks". We did about 4 sets. Not only did I feel the legs & glute muscles working but lots of core too. Try them!

Ruth!

Ha! I warned my students today when we did them that our shorts would probably end up around our waists by the time we were done! :7
