Butt pain - OW!!!

Hi!! My butt hurts and wonder if any of you have had this or know how to fix it? Or do I just need to wait it out. I feel silly making a Dr's appt bc my tush hurts!!! The middle outside of my right butt hurts!!! Been like this for maybe 2 weeks. Its a dull ache way inside somewhere. Up until yesterday, it didn't hurt as long as I was moving, jut when I would sit or lay down for the evening. Boy, is it hard to sleep with an achy tush!!! But yesterday it started acting up during IMAX 3 and I had to stop about 8 cycles into it. Now it seems to be wanting to hurt all the time (and its only 9 am!!!) and is moving more toward pain than an ache. I've tried heat/cold/advil/tylenol/aspirin - nothing seems to want to work. A good stretch does feel good though. I'm thinking maybe its just a pulled muscle or something? I do know that it seemed to start after I took my dog for a very hilly walk. Steep hills, maybe about 3 miles or so. I made sure I got a good leg stretch when we were done, though. And it's not an uncommon walk for us to take. So how do I fix this? Do I stop working out (GASP!!) til it just goes away? Have any of you ever had this? How long does it take? Or do I need to call the Dr? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Not a doctor, but sounds like piriformis syndrome, that little, deep glute muscle that can get strained and cause alot of grief.
It hurts very much, have you tried icing the area after activity? Or heat? Just my thoughts.
Oops, sorry, you have tried cold/heat therapy.

I was gonna say the same thing. I have piriformis syndrome and it is a bugger to deal with at times. Good stretching helps tons. The pigeon stretch is a good one. Also take a tennis ball and gently (emphasis on gently) roll on it. If it's been going on for two weeks I would rest and get it checked out if it does not improve. Pain is your body's way of saying "OUCH QUIT THAT" So I say rest and stretch and see if it improves. Otherwise seek some medical attention.

Thanks!! I've also noticed that when I'm sitting if I sit with my knee up pulled toward my chest and my foot on the couch/chair my leg instantly falls asleep - I normally sit like that all the time. Pinched nerve???

Nan, I feel your pain. I have way too much personal experience with injuries. Getting a medical opinion is a good thing to do. What has made a HUGE difference for me in treating my exercise related injuries and more importantly, keeping them at bay was finding Pete Egoscue and his book, Pain Free http://www.egoscue.com/htdocs/about/pete.asp

Take care ;-)
